At Home Hotel in Taipei is quite possibly the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had—and that’s saying something. This is not a real hotel. It’s a deceptive, unregulated operation that is misrepresenting itself on Booking.com under a false name. The name shown on Booking.com is different from the actual name of the property (which is only in Chinese characters), and once you book, they instruct you via Booking.com messages to contact them off-platform through WhatsApp or Line. That should be your first red flag.
I booked five nights. When I arrived, it was immediately clear that the photos on Booking.com were completely doctored or from a different property entirely. The room looked like a chopped-up apartment flat—filthy, dusty (including piles of what looked like orange rust in the corners), with zero sound insulation. My bathroom window opened directly to an open-access stairwell—anyone could’ve slid the screen open and crawled in. Many of the rooms appeared to be in the basement with mattresses on the floor. This was absolutely not what was advertised.
I contacted the “hotel” via WhatsApp immediately to explain the situation. They were combative and dismissive, refusing to accept any responsibility for the false advertising. Eventually, after involving Booking.com, they agreed to refund me for all but the first night. But soon after, Booking.com “negotiated” the refund down again, claiming I would now be charged for two nights instead.
Even worse: I explained to Booking.com that this hotel was likely a rebranded scam—probably previously banned under another name and re-listed using the same photos. I pointed out that they were requesting payment in Chinese Yuan, not Taiwanese dollars, which makes zero sense for a hotel in Taipei. Booking.com ignored all of this. They did nothing.
At one point, I received a refund confirmation from the hotel (after threatening to leave a negative review). The refund briefly showed up as a reversed bank charge—then it disappeared completely after Booking.com got involved again. Everything went silent. No one responded. No money was returned.
Also worth noting: many of the reviews you're seeing here on Google are almost certainly fake. There is no way this property is earning legitimate high ratings based on the condition of the rooms and how it's operated.
Let me be clear: this is a Chinese-run scam property operating without oversight, hiding behind a false identity on Booking.com, which is fully complicit in allowing it to continue. Booking.com prohibits users from saying anything negative about their platform in reviews, but I’m saying it here: they will protect the hotel’s interests over yours, every time.
Avoid this place at all costs. And reconsider using Booking.com altogether if you expect any real accountability when something goes wrong—because once it does, you're...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel in mid-June. Despite the contactless check-in and check-out process, the staff were very responsive on WhatsApp, even though I booked just one day in advance.
Rooms are pretty small, however this is to be expected for the price. I would recommend the Deluxe Room.
The location is extremely convenient, with an MTR station only a 10-minute walk away. Situated in a lively neighbourhood, you'll find street food, markets, and convenience stores in every direction. Despite this bustling environment, there's a peaceful park right in front of the entrance.
As others have mentioned, this hotel offers great value for money. They provide unlimited free water, juice, lemon tea, and snacks, making it very convenient to come back to after a day out.
While there is construction nearby that can be disturbing, we had researched this beforehand and set our expectations accordingly. Since we were out for most of the day, it didn't bother us much.
The room was very comfortable, with air conditioning and a dehumidifier making our...
Read moreMore like an Airbnb experience. They rebranded from Taipei Inn Hotel to At Home Hotel.
Booked a “Comfort Double Room”. The only window was in the bathroom where it was directly right in front of a staircase…so anyone can easily spy on you. The room wreaked too when I first entered. The bed skirts had dark spots. The duvet was a bit yellowed.
You couldn’t set the AC temperature past 23 deg C / 73.4 def F…if you set it any cooler, they explicitly mention that you will have to pay to repair any damages.
They offer free snacks at the basement, which were okay.
Location was in a quiet neighborhood. Walking distance to a couple of FamilyMarts and 7-11s. I still had to Uber to the locations I wanted to go to because it was too humid to walk around the city.
Checkin process was all sent to you via WhatsApp or LINE. You checkout by leaving the card back into the lockbox. You only get one card, so if you get locked out of your room…that’d be quite the process since no interaction at all...
