Tong An Curry Zhongshan Branch — Restaurant in Zhongshan District

Visited on 1/2 during the lunch period and a small queue had formed outside the restaurant which is always a good indicator of what can be expected from the food inside. Waited for about 15-20 minutes which wasn't too bad.

Went in, ordered the beef curry. Food was served almost immediately. Even just by looking at it, I could tell I was in for a treat. And when I took that first spoonful of food, wow, it just blew me away.

I've had Japanese curry before from various other places but hands down this has to be the best I've tried so far. Oh yes, you have the option to choose your spiciness level for the curry. I chose the less spicy option. So for spicy food lovers, you might want to choose the spicier version.

What can I say, the curry has a very unique flavor I can't quite put my finger on it. I'm from Malaysia and it's consistency is almost 'rendang' like if you know what I mean. And it has the right amount of tanginess you'd expect from a Japanese curry. The beef was soft and tender and was an absolute delight.

Will I return again?...

I was extremely disappointed. The reviews for this are very high, but nothing here left me impressed. Seating is limited so had to wait a while before I could eat Curry's are definitely on the more expensive side by Taipei standards Flavour was not particularly bold or interesting. Definitely nothing special about it at all Meal was quite small, especially considering the price

Its just intensely mediocre food, I was genuinely surprised. Maybe people like the decor and presentation? But it doesnt deserve such...

Very hostile unfair service and queue rules! the restaurant was full and needed to wait for at least 40mins so I queued outside and waited patiently. My friend was about to arrive in 3mins since she just lived upstairs next to the restaurant. But the restaurant told me I was not allow to queue because my friend was not with me. But ppl all behind me they were only one person and then they actually had more people to come to join them( after I was kicked out from the queue I found they had one or two more ppl joined them) anyways in this 3-5min queue the restaurant asked me twice I was not allowed to queue and i need to leave immediately! Unbelievable! I meant if you already have to queue for almost an hour and your friend will quequ with you in 3-5min! Why the restaurant want to be super accurate to count how many ppl are in lines?!!! plus the restaurant has the worst manner to ask you leave!
