A very Honest Review of the Hotel:
First of all “This is in no way a 5 star property”
A 4 star boutique property would be a more appropriate description
For everyone who might consider this hotel shall divide this review into a bit of a pro and con scenario:
Pros ———
A very beautiful boutique property with a beautiful garden, very quaint architecture and a very peaceful environment
Quite well maintained across, be it rooms or common areas, you don’t see anything broken or chipped off if not intent of design to keep the old charm of the building
Great Housekeeping and quick response to requests; we had one side table missing in the room, we called it in and in 2 minutes they brought us one!
Got all the basic amenities sorted, buffet breakfast, a small gym, a small pool, a small lounge area, a small conference area in the garden etc.
Whatever items are considered in room amenities such as soaps, towels to television to air conditioning to wifi works quite well and are of good quality
Cons: ———
Location of this property is way off from any mode of public transport and is very very far from any attraction; for everything you have to travel atleast 4-5 km
There is absolutely no BTS or MRT nearby (All are atleast 4 km away) and you’ll probably end up using Grab or Bolt a lot to get to places (Usually because of the peculiar location of the hotel, wait time of Grab or Bolt will also be a bit high usually above 15 minutes), and somehow this area is always under surge pricing and it costs quite high to go to places from here than you’d usually see from other places (Not to mention the high amount of time to get to places in the city due to heavy traffic and a myriad of signals)
Even though the pier is nearby at 400m and you can take a boat to see places like wat pho or grand palace, NO connectivity like the MRT or the BTS for downtown
The rooms were very very cramped; no space for even a cupboard or a luggage rack we struggled to keep our suitcases and then to move around in the room. There was also no hot water in the wash basin and the so called heater connected to the shower is a joke!! The rooms felt extremely suffocating also somehow as there was no air circulation in them and most nights we had to pry open the windows and the door for some relief!!! The beds are uncomfortable and since they combine two beds to make one king bed, adds to the discomfort of restless sleepers who might roll on the bed. No amenities like a bathtub for the room and it straightaway a small congested shower cubicle, not expected for this price point
PS: Yes we booked the Mattana Deluxe Room (Not the base superior room), naturally you’d expect something better , if you ask me , don’t pay the excess charge for so called additional space of (4msq)
For the price we paid we did not find this place worth that figure, perhaps if it was 70% of what we paid it would justify the value of the property
The staff approach
Our checkin process was terrible!
We got back to Bangkok from Chiang Mai and got to the hotel at about 12:45pm or so
When we mentioned we were tired and can we go to the room, the first response was , “ Since standard checkin time is 2:00pm please pay for early checkin”
Now the problem is not the process, but you do not expect this kind of behaviour from what they announce as a “5 Star property” or for the good amount of money we paid , and honestly we had to create a bit of a ruckus to change her mind and give us the rooms then and there
Now getting to the other staff: No one greeted us across our stay (3 Nights) and they all looked grumpy at best.
Usually you would see every staff member or in general most people in Thailand greeting you with a smile on their faces!
Even at breakfast the staff did not even come to our table to ask us if we wanted anything or for gods sake even to ask our room number! (except the chef who was lovely and trying to be helpful)
Overall I would suggest that at this price point you would get much better hotels at much...
Read moreWe had the worst experience at this hotel, would not stay here even if they offered it for free. When we arrived there - the room etc looked fine. Fast forwards half an hour; our room was facing the main street with no sound proofing of windows, you could literally hear everything. It overlooks a very busy street so all night long there is a lot of noise, we asked them to change the room as the noise was very bothersome (we booked the mattane executive) and they said they would charge 1000 bahts extra for the exact same room but without the noise (?!?) if you check the price on the website the difference between the garden view (which is what was offered to us for the extra price) and city view is around 200 Bahts, but because they knew we were so unhappy with it, they hiked up the charges, knowing that we would likely pay the difference, even though on the website (their own official one) the price difference is much less. I am convinced that this is how they make most of their money, because nobody would be happy living in that room, so they show a lower price on their website and upcharge you when you get there, knowing you will ask for that room to be changed. It was borderline scam behaviour. Also, if you check older reviews, people have been complaining about the noise for the last 2-3 years; so they know it’s a problem but are unbothered about fixing it. We didn’t check all the reviews before booking, so unfortunately suffered the consequences.
The breakfast was also below average, the sheets smelled and there was a musty, uncleaned odour in the room, and there were mosquitoes as well. We checked out a night early (we were booked for two days) they didn’t offer to refund us the money, knowing full well that it was definitely the fault of the hotel. The staff seemed unbothered (which makes me believe that this happens quite a lot, people leaving and them keeping the money) they didn’t ask what the issue was, why we were checking out early, simply nothing. It was the weirdest experience we’ve had with a hotel. I’m surprised that this hotel is considered five stars, ive stayed in a three star hotel with much better service and amenities.
So don’t let the reasonable price fool you, even if you book the garden view they are starting construction on their pool so you will still likely wake up from the noise, and they will not refund you nor change your room if you have an issue. I’ve stayed at many hotels in my life, and this has got to be the worst experience I have ever had - please save your money and don’t stay here. It is also extremely far from everything, and there is no public transport nearby other than the ferries, so you will be spending a fortune on taxis as well.
I have stayed in four different hotels in Thailand, ranging from 3-5 stars, and we’ve had a lovely experience everywhere; but this place really ruined our initial experience of Bangkok, as we ended up booking another hotel at a much higher price because it was so last minute.
PS - the cleaning staff was lovely, and this isn’t directed towards...
Read moreWarning: They try to give you rooms without windows – completely unacceptable I was extremely disappointed with my experience at this hotel. When I arrived, the receptionist informed me that the room I had booked had no windows. I told her this was unacceptable, and she insisted that I had been informed via email. She even showed me a printed notice, but I never received any communication from the hotel — not even a booking confirmation or a reply when I contacted them earlier asking for an airport pickup (which they refused, saying I should’ve requested it 24 hours in advance). They kept insisting I had to take the windowless room, even though the photos on Booking show a charming property surrounding a garden and pool — which is completely misleading. Being offered a dark, closed-off room with no windows at all is unacceptable and would even be illegal in Europe, where rooms are required by law to have windows. Only after I said I would immediately leave a very negative review did they “magically” find a room with a window — but it faced a noisy road, and the glass was dirty, likely because the shutters are always kept closed to hide the ugly view. I kept pushing and checked Booking in real time, where I saw that rooms with garden views were still available for at least the first three nights of my stay. When I asked to be moved there, they agreed but made me pay extra. While I was happy to pay the difference, what I cannot accept is that for the last night of my stay, I’m being forced to move out of the garden room. This is outrageous. This hotel promotes itself as a peaceful paradise, but in reality, tries to pass off windowless rooms to guests unless you complain. I felt cheated and misled, and I don’t think this kind of behavior should be tolerated — especially from a property that appears so...
