If you’re craving an authentic late-night rice porridge experience in Bangkok, Chiew Chan Panich (Tewet Congee) is definitely worth a visit! 😋 This legendary spot has been serving comforting dishes for decades. One of the absolute must-try menus here is the Soft-Shell Crab in Curry Powder. The crab is fresh, perfectly fried, and coated in a creamy flavorful curry sauce. It’s rich, aromatic, and seriously addictive 💛 Another great dish is the Minced Pork with Preserved Plum Soup. The broth is refreshingly tangy with just the right amount of saltiness. Soft pork, soothing soup — it’s a match made in heaven 🍲 They also offer a wide selection of stir-fries, boiled dishes and classic Thai street-style comfort food. Everything comes out hot, fast, and full of wok-hei goodness. Service is warm and attentive – the staff are always smiling and quick to take care of you 😊 There are two seating options depending on your mood. Inside, they have an air-conditioned room that’s cozy and cool ❄️ Outside, the open-air area lets you enjoy the local street vibes of Tewet. However, one small downside is the parking situation. Since this is a busy old town area, most guests need to park along the roadside. It can be a little tricky to find a spot during rush hour 🚗 Still, once you’re seated, the food makes everything worth it. Prices are fair and portions are generous. The restaurant also feels wonderfully nostalgic and full of character. It’s the kind of place locals love and tourists dream of discovering. Whether you come for supper or a midnight feast, it always satisfies. Highly recommended for fans of classic Thai-Chinese comfort food. Don’t miss that curry powder soft-shell crab – it’s unforgettable! 🦀 And make sure to order the preserved plum pork soup to refresh your palate. This is a Bangkok legend that deserves its reputation. Come hungry, leave happy. I’ll definitely be back...
Read moreThis place offers quality food at a very reasonable price, making it a solid choice if you’re looking for a satisfying meal without spending too much. The menu has a good variety of dishes, and everything we tried tasted fresh and well-prepared. Definitely a great spot for casual local dining.
One convenient point is that car parking is available nearby, so you won’t have to worry about walking too far — which is always a plus when you’re hungry or visiting with family or friends.
That said, there are a few things to keep in mind. The staff are polite and try their best, but most of them don’t speak English, so ordering food can be a bit of a challenge if you don’t speak Thai. It helps to have pictures on the menu or use a translation app, just to avoid any confusion.
One thing that felt a bit off to me was the extra charge of 20 THB for using electricity to charge your phone. While I understand that electricity has a cost, it’s not very common for restaurants to charge for such a basic need — especially when you’re already dining in. Personally, I found it a little unreasonable, and it might leave a negative impression for some guests.
Overall, it’s still a decent spot with good food and fair pricing, but a few improvements in service experience could make it even better. Would recommend for the food, but just be prepared for a couple of...
Read moreThe food is crazy delicious. I am a single diner and therefore have "capacity limit". I was deciding btw chicken and pork porridge, and asked the server for recommendation. She suggested chicken and I went with it. It is a really yummy bowl of porridge. When porridge was brought to my table, I could smell the savoury soup and deep fried garlic, I couldn't tell if I was eating chicken or fish! The chicken was prepared/ seasoned in a way that its texture tasted like fish, really good. The soup is savoury, slight peppery (but not spicy cos it didn't sting my ulcers) and really flavourful, in hokkien "kiam pang, 咸香". I really didn't know what main course to order cos the photos in the menu is really poor/ blurry. I looked at last few pages of the "recommended" items in the menu and shortlisted egg with jumbo crab. I flipped through Google photos and softshell crab caught my eye. The soft shell crab tasted as good as it looks in the photo, the batter is like flakey kind of CRUNCH. Really yummy. I would have preferred not to have the sauce at the bottom of the plate so entire dish would be crunchy. Even though it says curry dressing, it is not spicy at all. I got there at 5pm, there...
