Sea Culture — Hotel in Ko Lanta Yai

I recently got back from a 16 night stay from this place. I'm gonna be really honest. The facilities in the bungalows aren't the greatest. They're very basic. You read about these bungalows with flat screen tv and air con etc.. these are not those kind!! These are very basic. Bare light bulb. Large bed with mosquito net. Electric shower. No wardrobe, just one small door free cupboard for some of your clothes. This is it. ||You do get used to the simplicity of it, especially if you stay as long as i did. Unfortunately my shower didn't have very good pressure at all and i have long hair. I had to wash my hair with the bum gun which has much better pressure surprisingly! No judgement please! But the mosquito net worked for the most part, we had a few power cuts and when it rained hard the roof of my bungalow leaked right onto my bed. But for the down parts of the bungalow, the other parts made it better. The staff can't do enough to help you. So my shower was fixed (although it still wasn't powerful enough to wash the shampoo out of my hair), the roof was kind of fixed and i still had to put towels on top of my bed in hard downpours! But it's Thailand! The two very special ladies at the bar were amazing and i miss them! Da at Reception was very helpful. Trips booked from her were great. Want to hire a bike or scooter? She can book it. Taxi somewhere? She can book it. The staff outshone the very basic bungalow facilities. To be honest, if it wasn't for the brilliant staff it would have been a rubbish stay. They do what the can to make your stay comfortable. The food was REALLY good. I didn't have a bad meal there at all. I was probably there for a lot longer than most of their guests and i do really miss the guys there. The food, the service and the sunsets, and definitely the cats. If you stay there don't expect The Ritz ,it is very basic. But do expect people trying to bend over backwards to help you. Sometimes its the people that make the place. Not...

Hi guys, beware of this bungalows. Unfortunately we didn’t have good days in the bungalow. The bungalow was as expected with insects etc. But the problem was less the bungalow. We felt like walking money there. The receptionist and the team was at the beginning really friendly and nice to us. They offered us everything but of course for money. They ask the whole time what we do today to include their business in our plans. We ate often there and the food is good. But one day we rented a scooter and we gave it back. Our brake fell off on our way back home. We tried to explain the receptionist that our brake fell off and we almost had an serious accident because she gave us this scooter. Instead of apologizing she wanted to charge us 5000 baths for a scooter brake that fell off. We were totally not sure what to do because it wasn’t our fault but we could prove it. We asked around and people told us the brake is worth 400 bahts but she refused. She scammed us. She told us we won’t leave until we pay 5000 bahts. We really felt unsafe. They turned out the water at our last night at our bungalow so we couldn’t even shower. It was a horrible experience and we were happy to leave koh Lanta this day....

De aankomst bij Sea Culture begon al vreemd. Er was geen warm welkom. We kregen direct de vraag of we een boeking hadden en voor hoe veel nachten we hadden gereserveerd. Onze naam werd niet eens gevaagd. Omdat we het prachtige strand van Relax Bay zagen namen we het vreemde welkom op de koop toe. ||||Vervolgens wees iemand naar een hut waar we naar toe moesten lopen, de bagage werd gebracht. Het viel ons op dat het mini resort nog niet helemaal klaar was. Zo hield het voetpad op en moesten andere gasten voor ons terras door het zand lopen om bij hun hutje te komen. ||||Eenmaal in het hutje zagen we dat er bruin water in de wc dreef, in een pot met afgebroken wc bril. De wasbak was lek, het water liep over mijn slippers als ik de kraan liet lopen. Tot onze verbazing kwam het bruin water ook uit de kraan. Gebruik dit dus ook niet om he tanden te poetsen! ||||Jammer genoeg had het hutje geen ramen en geen horren tegen muggen en insecten. Dit betekende dat het huisje pikdonker was omdat niemand zijn deuren en ramen open wilde zetten voor frisse lucht. ||||Opmerkelijk dat er zoveel mis is van hutjes die net zijn gebouwd. Er lag een dode kakkerlak in de hoek, maar dat hoort er bij in Thailand zullen we maar zeggen. Wel jammer dat de schoonmaakster dat niet heeft opgemerkt. Helaas toen we naar de receptie liepen en de deur dicht deden viel deze in het slot. Zonder dat we de deur op slot hadden gedaan! We konden er dus niet meer in. ||||De gastheer aangesproken op deze zaken en het werd opgelost. Hij stuurde iemand naar het dorp om een wc bril te kopen. Het slot kon helaas niet gemaakt worden. De handy man heeft dit verholpen door letterlijk de deur in te trappen! ||||We besloten het diner de eerste avond te nuttigen in hun restaurant. De menukaart werd nog net niet op tafel gegooid zonder enige groet of oogcontact. Deze kleine dingen maken het verschil, zeker op vakantie!||||Het is een accomodaties met zeer matig comfort. Voor velen is dit prima, voor ons beneden peil. En zijn echt wel wat gewend in Thailand. ||||Hutje was zeer gehorig in de nacht. De moskee wat goed te horen die achter de hut lag. Er lagen geen lakens op het bed. Enkel een grote oude badhanddoek waar je niet met twee mensen onder kunt liggen. ||||We besloten de volgende ochtend Relax Beach (de naam van deze intieme baai) verder te verkennen of er mogelijk andere plekken waren waar we konden slapen, we hadden echter wel voor 5 nachten geboekt. Een top plek gevonden 100 meter verderop (relax bay resort) waar we hartelijk werden verwelkomd en de hutjes eerst mochten zien voordat we beslisten. ||||Vervolgens bij Sea Culture aangegeven dat we wilde vertrekken. Dit ging niet van harte maar het werd geaccepteerd. We kwamen overeen dat we de helft van de boeking zouden betalen (dit is al heel wat, maar we zaten in vakantie stemming). ||||Al met al, een zeer primitief mini resort aan een geweldig stukje mooi en rustig strand met een goede vibe. Veel leuke andere beach clubs (o.a. Fusion) om in de avond te eten en de sunset te kijken. ||||De staf bij Sea Culture heeft nog een grote slag te slaan in kwaliteit en hospitality. Verwelkom gasten goed en geef zo nu en dan een glimlach. Door zelf overdreven aardig te doen lukt het ons soms om een lach terug te krijgen. En de is voor Thaise...
