My past weekend trip to Khao Lak seems so long ago, yet the sunburn is still here. Three days was definitely not enough time to spend at the Little Shore (TLS). We mainly stayed at the hotel since there was so much to entertain our kids. It's connected to The Sands. LTS is the higher end brand. We are able to use the facilities of the Sands but they cannot use ours. So, this gives you a bit of a nice quiet boutique hotel vibe mixed with a big resort vibe. I stayed at the Little Shore this past weekend with my husband, son (3), and another family with 1 son (3).
The room
We stayed in the 2 bedroom pool villa (all rooms at TLS have a personal pool). The master room had a king size bed, a bathtub and a dressing area that the second bedroom does not have. The second room has a choice of two twin beds or one king bed. The bathroom is not connected to the room, but is still a full bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. The beds are really comfortable and soft, however you can ask for a firmer or even softer bed. It comes with 2 pillows per person (one harder and one softer), and you can order more on request. Both rooms are separated by a door. The living room has an L-shaped couch, coffee table, and 4 chair dining set, a sink, mini fridge, kettle and coffee maker. We moved all the mini bar pay for items to the shelf above so our kids wouldn't be able to reach it. We did end up buying some things for the adults though. The water, tea, milk and coffee were free and refillable. The room came with 4 deck chairs to lie and sunbathe on and a good size personal pool villa. You get a view if you're not on the first floor. The kids (and the adults) loved this. We would wake up and jump in, and then jump in again when returning to the room. It's just fun to have a pool in the room (well outside of it).
The food
Free breakfast is nice. They have a good mix of hot and cold, continental and Thai. There is an egg station, and they're happy to help custom your meal if possible. My son loves extra crispy bacon, and we got that everyday. My friend has so many allergies; glutton, dairy, nuts, some meats etc. They accommodated her for every meal. She was quite pleased. There are plenty of high chairs but also lots of sofa seating for kids. Lots of kid friendly meal choices, as well as adult ones. They mainly have the same basic items for breakfast but rotate a few local dishes.
There is a fancy Thai restaurant in TLS which is really good and the regular hotel restaurant which also does room service is ok. There are also other restaurants at the Sands which I didn't try. The Thai food tastes best in my opinion.
The Kid's Club There is a smaller one in TLS and a bigger one at the Sands. TLS has a climbing thing, a ball pit, a gymnastics type thing, toys and coloring/craft stations. No one is there monitoring. It's super clean and brand new. The larger kid's club has a lot more. It has a larger climbing thing, ball pit, a mini movie theater, babies zone, toys, kids biking area, computers for tweens, craft stations, and it's monitored by nannies. There are also night disco events.
Mini waterpark and Pools This is located at the Sands. It's got a bunch of slides, a water playground, an actual playground, a lazy river, kid pools. There are so many pools at the Sands, I didn't count. TLS has 1 main pool with beach view. There is another one for the special adult only rooms.
The app There is an app they ask you to DL for the hotel It's amazing! It has all the info on the app for spa, restaurants, things to do, room service etc. However, there is also for amenities. Like I needed 4 more pillows, milk, mugs, glasses, towels, etc. I just ordered it on the app and in 15 minutes it arrived.
Location It's about a 15-20 minutes walk to the main road where you can find restaurants, bars, mini marts, and some shopping.
Can't wait to come back! I never write such a detailed review about any hotel but I loved it so much, and it's so hard to find something so good for young...
Read moreFor the last 2 years, my wife and I spent our holidays in very good 5-star hotels in the Indian Sea basin: Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa and Hard Rock Hotel Maldives. Always in villas on the first line of the coast or villas on the water. In Little Shore, we also chose the best option, Seafront Double Pool Villa. And we were not disappointed. Little Shore Khao Lak by Katathani is a compact, perfectly designed tourist facility. All apartments, both villas and suites have swimming pools, which must have been quite a challenge for architects and designers. As an engineer, I appreciate the unusual solution of placing swimming pools on the 1st and 2nd floor :) which is an additional large load for the structure. But to the point. The hotel captivates from the very entrance. Beautifully designed and executed entrance with a wall of water. At the reception, David welcomed us with glasses of a cold drink, which was great after almost 20 hours of travel. Quick, uncomplicated check-in. David introduced us to the hotel in a very accessible way, installed a very useful application on our smartphone, then a short introductory tour and we were ready to enjoy our vacation. We stayed in a 2-person Seafront Double Pool Villa, one of 8 of this type on the hotel premises. Everything smelled new, as the hotel opened in 2024. The villa was perfectly equipped with everything you need. Sliding glass doors optically enlarged the already large interior space. 4 Seafront Double Pool Villas and 9 Seaview Double Pool Villas had access to a dedicated larger pool (in each of the 2 complexes). The advantage was silence, you could only hear the noise of the Andaman Sea 30 meters away. The hotel has 2 restaurants, one serving world cuisine (Kati), the other serving Thai dishes (Param Para). Since we always choose the all-inclusive meal plan (or ultra all-inclusive is available), we chose this option here too. We could enjoy excellent dishes from the AI-dedicated menu. Although the menu was not very diverse (only 5 main courses to choose from). In my opinion, it would be better to create one menu for everyone, and mark the more expensive dishes excluded from the AI offer. We did not use the Param Para restaurant, because we tried Thai dishes during our trips. The hotel also has one general pool with a bar. Additionally, a bar is open in the evening near the reception. Additional amenities include a well-equipped Gym with an additional room for boxing training (which is probably not surprising in Thailand :) ) and a small playroom for children. Everything is clean and perfectly maintained. A huge advantage is the staff. Smiling and friendly. Starting with the cleaning ladies (special thanks Kwan, Ja, New), through the reception (always willing to help), the bar at the reception (thanks Naing and Von). Thanks to the enormous work of the gardeners, the pool service, everything is perfectly maintained and clean. Special thanks to the restaurant staff. Madame Kookai, the restaurant manager, is the good spirit of the Kati restaurant. She is always and everywhere. This job is her life. Wimon is a great supporter. I would like to thank all the staff, the chef for his culinary masterpieces. Big thanks to the always smiling Patti, and no less to Anya, Bella1, Chelsea, Minny, Paul, Cara, running from the pool bar to get food for the lazy guests of Natthapong. If I have missed anyone, I apologize. You all made my wife and I spend almost 2 weeks of a perfect vacation. To sum up, the advantages of Little Shore are its excellent location, compactness (about 100 villas and suites), peace, quiet, cleanliness, excellent service. For families with children, I would recommend the sister hotel located next door (with lots of children's attractions). I am glad that this place has recovered from the tragic tsunami in 2004. I am sure we will...
Read moreOur stay at Little Shore was with our two young children for 9 nights. We have previously stayed at Katathani Phuket Beach Resort which is similar to The Sands another property of the Katathani Group.
The Little Shore has got to be the top hotel by far out of the group. Although the sister hotel The Sands, Leaf and several surrounding restaurants are available to use for The Little Shore customers, the other hotels have limited use of the facilities such as food and beverage, and cannot use the pools and sun lounges. This makes The Little Shore more exclusive and very quite. If you stay at The Little Shore, you can use the kids club and any of the facilities at The Sands.
The Little Shore is designed for both couples and families with kids. It feels like one of those hotels where you feel like no one is there but it’s actually nearly full in capacity.
Highlights: ALL staff are the most friendly and will go out of their way to ensure you are satisfied/happy. Golf buggies take you to the main street and back. They are very quick. We loved drivers called Tea, Tom and Jerry. Absolutely the most friendly people in the world. Thank you guys for making our buggy trips fun and great conversations. Every one of them remembered our names and would address us by our names when taking us for buggy rides. Food at the buffet breakfast is a leap upwards from Katathani Phuket Beach Resort. Katathani group have focused on this resort to have high standard and quality. The onsite Restaurants were faultless and very unique within themselves. Food is 5 star quality and no less. Taste and display. Restaurants at The Sands are slightly lower standards. Pool bar is tranquil, as I mentioned only The Little Sands can use the facilities so it’s very peaceful. In room pool is perfect for kids. If your kids usually hound you to go to the main pool, this is changes everything. You use your room more than ever. The pool is 1.1m deep and there are two sun lounges. Location is perfect. Small buggy ride to the main street for local food and at least four 7/11’s and a Super Market for stockpiling drinks in your hotel bar fridge. Plenty of shops and massage places which are amazing. Shops don’t hassle you and are friendly. Don’t forget to be the first customer and get a good price. You setup their day of good fortune. Room pool is 30-31c, Bar pool is 33c and the ocean is 31c. Never forget the cleaning staff. Our rooms were spotless each day on our return and took great care of our belongings. Not once I felt our things were unsecure. Italian restaurant next to the Leaf hotel (buggy ride) had the best wood fired pizza and pasta dishes and incredible presentation. If you need a break from Thai food and want 5 star, go there. The food is than a lot of places in Melbourne Australia. We could not believe it. They claimed they are especially trained in the Italian food at this restaurant.
Hotel staff: There is a gentleman who is one of the hosts. His name is Tu. Absolutely the kindest soul and will check in with you on several occasions to ensure you are having a great time. We also loved a young girls called Chelsea and Jam who waited on us. They were beautiful minded people and drew towards our kids on every occasion at dinner or breakfast.
We will continue to do family trips to Thailand and will be returning to The Little Shore. They are a place where they will do anything for you to ensure you are...
