I had high hopes for The Leaf By Katathani, but unfortunately, my stay left me feeling disappointed and unappreciated. Having traveled to many hotels, both in Thailand and abroad, I’ve come to expect a certain level of hospitality—especially from a well-known brand. Sadly, this was not the case here.
We arrived for check-in at 5:00 PM, much later than the standard check-in time, so naturally, we hoped for a little flexibility with check-out. A simple request for a 1-hour late check-out was immediately denied, with no consideration given. I understand hotel policies, but in my experience, most hotels strive to accommodate their guests whenever possible. Given that it was also my birthday, I had hoped for at least a small gesture of understanding, but instead, it felt like a cold, rule-based response rather than genuine hospitality.
Another issue was the room assignment. We had clearly requested a twin bed in advance, yet we were given a king bed instead. We didn’t make a fuss—we accepted the room. However, when we asked if there were any twin rooms available, we were told there were none left. Strangely enough, when we checked online, twin rooms were still available for booking. It was frustrating to see such a lack of effort in even considering a room switch.
I’ve stayed at countless hotels, from small boutique resorts to five-star chains, and the best ones always focus on guest satisfaction over rigid policies. They find ways to accommodate reasonable requests, making guests feel valued rather than just another reservation number. Here, however, everything felt inflexible and transactional.
This hotel may have great facilities, but hospitality is about going the extra mile—or at least meeting guests halfway. Unfortunately, The Leaf By Katathani fell short in that regard. If you’re looking for a place that treats guests with warmth and flexibility, you might be better...
Read moreWe stayed at the hotel from October 10 to October 22. We have previously vacationed in Khao Lak several times, in different hotels, and we can say with confidence that “The Leaf Oceanside by Katathani Resort” is a wonderful hotel! Rooms: large, clean, equipped with everything necessary (TV, refrigerator, air conditioning). The air conditioning worked great, no noise. We had a huge balcony overlooking the garden and pool. Large clean bathroom. Service: Every day room cleaning, replenishment of bottled water, tea and coffee. Bed linen is changed frequently. Every day replenishment of shampoo and shower gel, toilet paper, change of towels. Territory: large, well-groomed. Beautiful green lawns. Lots of palms and tropical trees. In the evening, treat the area against mosquitoes. Two swimming pools with fountains, sun loungers and umbrellas. The houses and grounds are quiet, calm and comfortable. Breakfast: served in the restaurant from 06:00 to 10:00. Breakfast is varied and plentiful, with many European and Asian dishes. Fruits, juices. Staff: beyond praise! The staff is very friendly, very responsive, very professional! They helped me find a bouquet of flowers for my wife's birthday. Thanks a lot, everyone! Location from the center of the village – 600-700 meters. Restaurants, shops, massage parlors - all within walking distance. Beach: 150-200 meters to Nang Thong Beach. Excellent sandy beach with a gentle slope. Palm trees, magnolias, cassowary trees on the shore. A lighthouse in the sea diversifies the landscape. This beach is influenced by the tides. Deeper beaches are located 1-1.5 km to the right and left of Nang Thong Beach. Vacation impression: EXCELLENT! We would love to return to The Leaf Oceanside by Katathani Resort in the future. I recommend The Leaf Oceanside by Katathani Resort to everyone for a calm,...
Read moreWe stayed in the hotel for a full week in January. On the positive side: good location, 2min walk to the beach (no sunbeds available to rent on the whole beach, they are all owned by private beachfront hotels), 10 min walk to the cafés, bars, restaurants, 7eleven great pool/garden area, plenty of sunbeds (not only by the pool but also everywhere on the grass area under palm trees), always clean good happy hour cocktails offer, great drinks (11am-5pm - 110THB) good size room and terrace, small but very good fridge (palm villa) good coffee in the bar/restaurant washing machine and tumble dryer on site (on the entrance gate), 50THB per 10kg load, automatic 1h wash (you can dry lots of your washing on your terrace and drying racks provided in the room) great massage service in the garden area (only slightly more expensive than in town), but worth every penny, therapists were exceptional and very skilled (400THB for thai massage) good room service, room was cleaned even on late requests all minor requests we've had were sorted in minutes good lunch (unlike breakfast) comfy bed (hard mattress)
On the negative side: very dated hotel, it desperately needs renovation, extremely low water pressure in the shower loud AC people reserving sunbeds very early in the morning, average age of visitors is probably 60 very poor breakfast, decided to skip it few times unfortunately
It could of been a fantastic place, it just needs some investment and attention, at best it feels like a 3☆ hotel...
