Very central to everything, including shops, eateries (street foods and restaurants), and public transportation (BTS sky train, taxis, and tuk-tuks (akin to a motorized tricycle or a mini open air jeep). This Marriott brand is under Vacation Club does not take part in the Marriott Rewards program - this means you will not get points or credit for the nights that you stay. However, if you use a Marriott credit card to pay for the amount of days that you stay, you will receive points. This building is a residential-condominium complex, where specific units have been redone to meet the Marriott standards and regulations. Amenities include a large and very clean outdoor pool, tennis court, fitness room, library, dry and steam sauna. The building has security guards at the entrance and lobby. This building also provides complimentary parking for its guests and residences. This vacation club resort does not really include any package tour to review and choose from. However, one of the best things about this Marriott is the staff - particularly the general manager Alex, who went above and beyond to ensure we had a safe and memorable experience during our entire stay. Alex was very knowledgeable about the city, and he provided specific information about train schedules and key places to visit in (and surrounding) Bangkok. Alex even went out of his way during his day off to book us a preferred 1st cabin (versus aisle seating) for our roundtrip train ride to northern Thailand. When one of us got sick during our month stay in Bangkok, Alex and his staff made sure we were safely and diligently looked after. All the staff here deserve acknowledgement, including: FRONT DESK STAFF Paul, Nick, Michael, Pho HOUSEKEEPING Axle, Peter, Dasyan, Noon, Mon, and Beam This Marriott was a good choice for us to stay for a month in Bangkok. This is our second time staying at this building. We exchanged through Interval International and (again) had a beautiful 2 bedroom/2 bath unit with view of the pool and city. The unit was fully equipped with convection stove top, full-size refrigerator, microwave, complete utensils and equipment to cook a meal (if one prefers). Additionally, one of the best perks about staying at this Marriott is the enquire clothes washer and dryer -- believe us when we say a clothes dryer makes life so much easier and convenient when traveling with a limited number of packed clothes for a 3-month vacation. Love our stay at the Marriott Bangkok Empire Place. This will always remain our go-to place to stay whenever we...
Read moreI gotta go with a 4 on this one. I knew in advance that this was not going to be a "hotel style" stay, so no discount for the overall lack of grandeur throughout the property. As someone stated, the halls were fairly Spartan and the lobby a bit "meh". The front desk staff were OK, but a far cry from the level of professionalism we received from the JW in Phuket.
Our apartment was well appointed and clean. Did get some road noise and could hear our neighbor through the bedroom walls (kind of thin), but otherwise a solid 5 IMHO.
Location for a vacation is not ideal. If I were here for work, it would have been a solid 5 being that it's in the financial district and close to my firm's Thai affiliate (less than a block away). But for vacation, we were looking at a typical 30 minute plus commute to get to any of the attractions here in Bangkok. Also, add some cost for a Grab (i.e., Bangkok Uber). We did try the Sky Train, but for us, the cost of Grab was so low, that we chose this option almost every time we needed transport.
We did not use the pool or the weight room, but did walk by them and they seemed clean and well maintained.
Also, be prepared for a weird vibe in the non-Marriott side of the lobby. Strange pop-up style "package area"? Not sure what it was, but it seemed like some sort of service to help tourist from another Asian country ship or receive packages. I say pop-up style because it was like a folding table with a laptop, router, and printer with bare wires running all over the place.
OK, what could make this a solid 4 or maybe 4.5 in my book? A proper concierge for the Marriott side to help make arrangements. Front desk was slightly helpful, but it's not their specialty. I was just being lazy and could have researched/planned better. But again, coming from the JW at Phuket, we got used to 5 star service who helped arrange some excellent excursions last minute. Different clientele , I get it.
Kudos to Nick (bellman). He was stand out and very friendly/helpful. He should be rewarded and recognized for his excellence. He seemed genuinely happy to be there and concerned about the well being and happiness of us, the guests. Marriott needs to make sure he's taken care of and find a way to best utilize his...
Read moreWe, a family of five, have just returned from our one week trip in Bangkok and we felt very lucky we chose to stay at the Empire Place. Before we arrived, we had communicated several times with the hotel about our late arrival, and their speedy responses was amazingly quick. Two young staff members were receiving us at 2 am and showed our apartment. Though there are no restaurants on site, there are so many good places to eat right outside the hotel, street food, sit-down restaurants and even some fancy ones nearby. They have organized tours everyday, Ruby, the lovely hotel staff who accompanied us all the way to the tourist site each time by using the nearby subway, and sometimes transferred to the boat. She is so helpful and lovely and smiles all the time. Such arrangements made our traveling so much easier. The swimming pool is huge and very few people used it while we were there. The room cleaning crew is wonderful. Although we only used it once, Mai, a young guy, would send us water bottles everyday. I have to say everyone, absolutely everyone in the hotel, a huge team, is kind, smiling, and patient with all your questions and their recommendations. We celebrated my birthday with their recommendation. a Lovely Italian restaurant across from the hotel. We had a 3 bedroom timeshare apartment on the 4th floor, and it is a huge one, with one master-bedroom and bath room with a tub. Each bedroom had its own shower and bathroom. There is also an extra toilet for use. Washer and dryer are super helpful. We brought our own detergent pods though. The transportation is easy with only a few minutes walk to the subway, which will take you to many places. We also downloaded GRAB, like Uber, and the fee was reasonably cheaper. Top, a popular supermarket in Bangkok is close by. All in all, because of their kind and responsive service, we felt like home, and the hot weather didn't really bother us that much. Make sure you enjoy using their swimming pool. Thank you, the entire Empire Place team, for your great hospitality. BTW, they also allowed us a late check out. A huge help!...
