I was here in the middle of June for 10 days. This is going to be long, but I feel I need to be precise. First of all - I know My Dear Manager or anybody from hotel, that you are actually reading this, so before I will start - please do not even try to put here any comment on how you are sad about my opinion, cause I gave you my opinion several times during my stay and you didn't care, so now do not pretend, that you do.
In general, you can say that Hotel is great, BUT... and after but you'll find many. I got bad luck, that's for sure, therefore I am giving 3/5 stars, I can imagine that somebody could actually be happy about quality of the hotel. However let's start from room. Rooms are good looking (I was in 2 different, so...) and - considering all circumstances - quite clean. BUT. Air-conditioner was not working in both. And from 15th of June it should work. It didn't. I complaint about it at least 3 times in the reception, each time I heard that "of course, I will send somebody" and... nothing changed. I tried to resolve the issue by myself, BUT... please if you will be in this hotel, DO NOT look, what is inside your air-conditioner. I found a ton of dust, bottles (old) etc. Now the history of room changing. Let's start from statement, that this is 5 stars hotel, so you probably can expect a little bit of engage mindset from reception and staff. Nope. I received a room, which was just above technical rooms of hotel, in effect each 30 seconds I heard only loud noise of air-conditioners or something else from this rooms. Walls were literally shaking from it. All the time - day and night. Long story short, I was complaining about it to the reception for 3 days, next 2 days I was waiting for new room (apparently that was my fault, cause I was shameless to try enjoy my holidays and went for a trip, instead I shall sit and wait for a room, cause the only moment it was possible was between 2:45pm-3pm [haha].). In the end I received a new room after 6 days of stay in the most loud room ever had in my life. I need to underline, that it's an absolute disgrace how Reception and Manager are behaving. They are "nice", and seems to help you, but they literally doing nothing. What's more, they try to argue with you, one of the guys said to me that "I am lying" about the hour of room changing (sorry man, still I was saying the truth). Basically it's simple ping-pong game with them. You are saying something, they are saying OK we will deal with that, they don't, so you coming back, they are saying OK, and it's a funny circle, except it's not funny. With reception topic, let's jump into the jacuzzi. Or not, cause that's the second issue - there was no jacuzzi. Or to be precised - there was a pool, which can be jacuzzi, but it should be active first. Jacuzzi should be active 9-18. We've been there several times. It was working only once. Every next try was the above conversation with reception. We are going to the pool, jacuzzi is off, going to reception, "OK, we will activate it in a moment", nothing happened, going to reception etc. Each time for 10 days!
Now something for my Central-Eastern Europe friends or alcohol enthusiasts. In the offer probably you all shall have a point with bar on the beach, serving beer and wine. There is a bar on a beach. BUT with no alcohol. Apparently Manager decided to remove alcohol from the offer after first day of our stay, cause - I quote bartender - "Manager said that guests are drinking too much and they are taking too much beers at once and it's finished". Awesome idea! So we enjoyed observing how in 2nd day bartender patiently explained each guest why there's no alcohol. On 3rd day they used some foil to cover the keg. On 4th... there was no keg anymore :D So if you want to enjoy your cold beer or glass of wine you may be able to do that. Or not. Depends on manager's mood. Count it to your trip.
I don't have more space, so briefly: be aware of dirty sea, full of plastic and dirt in this area. Not always, sometimes.
Food is awesome, bartenders and waiters - great job,...
Read moreGiven the mixed and wildly differing views on the five-star Mehari, I thought I’d use my background as a journalist to give a balanced account of my week at the hotel. Firstly, having stayed for seven nights and eaten up to three times per day at the resort, I can confirm the food is sometimes luke warm despite the use of heated trays, water baths and steam in an attempt to preserve the heat. The food itself was always cooked well, contrary to other reports of undercooked meat etc. There is a variety of salads, mains, bread and soups across a range of cuisines including Tunisian, Italian, French and English. The dessert and patisserie counter was always well stocked although some of the pastries appeared to have been frozen, then defrosted and displayed for a second time. The bar has an excellent offering of drinks with the chance of bar snacks and some unwanted desserts depending on the time of day. Having visited in Ramadan, a quiet period for the hotel, there was just about sufficient space in the restaurant and bar to accommodate guests at the busiest portions of the day. The Mehari has additional restaurants and bar areas which can open in the height of summer when guest numbers naturally increase. Mehari also boasts a medium-sized pool which was not heated, plus an indoor pool. However, the gym is badly in need of a refurbishment to update the tired equipment. The theme of renovation continues into the bedrooms where although the spaciousness is a luxury, the decoration is not. In my room, with a sea view and balcony, the carpet was showing signs of wear and tear, while the shelf underneath the TV was hanging off the wall. There were some tiny stains on my bed linen, and both the curtains and two armchairs appeared very old indeed. There were large handprints on the inside of the glass sliding doors and numerous insects trapped between the curtain and windows, which the cleaning staff had ignored. The balcony floor, seats and table were also dusty and needed a good scrub. Thankfully, there were no cockroaches as mentioned in other reviews. At night time, some corridors were completely dark and doors shut, which when opened could have disturbed guests immediately next to them. Gladly, contrary to other reports, no staff entered my room in the middle of the day or night as they obeyed the ‘do not disturb’ card when used. The staff were a real highlight of my stay, especially the waiting, bar and reception staff who appreciated what basic Tunisian Arabic I could learn. They could not do enough for us and even checked me in early as my flight arrived at 10:30am. Tipping is not essential but appreciated, either in small amounts per day or in a larger amount at the end of your stay. There is also a friendly security team on 24-hour patrol outside the foyer. Going against other reviews, the Wi-Fi strength for my stay was superb. I stayed on the third floor and the Wi-Fi service was immaculate. The only place the reception appeared poor was in the restaurant, which was annexed some 25 metres away from the foyer. Overall, there were very few negatives, although the following are points to consider. The TV stations in the rooms, if that is your go-to on rainy days, are all in Arabic. The billiards table was also out of operation and the cloth in any case appeared at least a decade old. The fire alarm went off three times in three days early in the morning for a maximum of 10 seconds, which seemed excessive and abnormal if they were only drills. Sometimes the tour rep on the ground floor can be overbearing and too keen for a sale. The general feel of the hotel in places is five-star, but mostly it is three-star only. I’d give it a 3.5 out of five as there are areas in urgent need of attention but studded with enough moments of comfort and luxury to nudge it above three stars. For the money, the Mehari is certainly an excellent deal but do embark on the holiday with the mindset of managing your expectations and you will almost definitely have a...
Read morehonest detailed review. first time in Tunisia, period of stay in the hotel 5 days. counted on a really 5-star hotel. but some aspects turned out not so. let's start with the pluses: large territory, 2 pools, animators with a lot of activities (stretching, darts, water polo, volleyball, dancing, etc.), clean pools, next to the barbecue area, where periodically something is cooked (pancakes, served fruit, etc.), deck chairs can be occupied by you for all day, a towel is given; quite delicious food - you can choose both dietary and fattier, a lot of fruits and vegetables, salads, also I liked that there are many chefs that cook in the dining-hall (omelets, pancakes, meat, grilled food, pizza, kebab, etc.); the presence of bars where you can order drinks; also there is a spa area. additionally, the hotel has its own beach. and the minuses, which overlapped all the pluses: 1) bad (very!! or even absence) wi-fi, which presented only in the lobby (no wi-fi in the room!!), several times we came to the reception and asked to make us a wi-fi spot (as in some rooms on the floor), we first promised, then they said “for the Internet come downstairs into the lobby and sit”. very cool in 2025 not to have a connection in the room, and go for it constantly somewhere to connect. I see the replies from the hotel here, that the connection was checked and it's presented in the room - no, it's not, I have the screenshots that no connections are presented in our room, from different devices. 2) also, water in the room is very chlorinated, I immediately after the first shower had allergies and red spots on the body. 3) at check-in will require tax from each tourist 12 dinars / day, it is very expensive, I think (not connected with the hotel service, just FYI for the future travellers). 4) the shower in the room is terrible, broken, switch of modes hardly possible. 5) no slippers in the room. 6) there was no key to the safe, had to go to ask at the reception, which is unusual. 7) then the situation that just pissed us off - we asked not to clean our room during our stay in the hotel, and don't come to the room in our absence, also to provide a sign “do not disturb”. as a result, our request was ignored THREE times (three days in a row), the cleaning lady constantly unceremoniously entered our room (even while we were sleeping or in our absence), removed the sign 'do not disturb' deliberately. we went to the reception 4 times and demanded that we were heard, and stopped entering our room, they fed us with promises, and only on the 4th day they heard us. I am also surprised that the cleaners knock 1 time, wait for 5 seconds and immediately enter the room without asking, and you do not even have time to get out of bed, or get out of the shower, as they are already walking around your room. even on the day of checkout, at 10 am, although it is at 12:00, the cleaning lady broke in almost without knocking, and asked about checkout (and I just got out of the shower). please teach the staff to give guests privacy. 8) in the lobby, only where there is the internet, there are a lot of mosquitoes, it is impossible to sit. 9) it is surprising that in the lobby there are irritating merchants selling excursions. 10) there are only 2 elevators, and for such a huge number of people it is extremely small, we constantly walked. 11) the animation program does not coincide with the written at the pool - we used to come a few days in a row to aqua aerobics, but there was always something else, belly dance was canceled at all. 12) also for me, as an athlete, it was sad to see the gym - almost all the equipment is broken, dumbbells without a pair, no horizontal bar, no basic equipment, no squat rack. there is a treadmill, 2 exercise bikes, 3 heavy dumbbells (without a pair), 2 barbells, 2 bench presses. but the trainer is very friendly (thanks to him, btw), helped me to think up how to replace the missing...
