We're a few days into our second visit to this hotel and it was like coming home to family. Many staff members remember us and as my health conditions now force me to use a stick or walking aid the duty manager quickly arranged for us to be in a ground floor accessible room. I can't fault the friendliness or helpfulness of all staff, the hotel is clean and the gardens kept beautifully. The entertainment team work very hard and you can join in with a much or little as you like, no pressure and even if you're not one who joins in they still stop to check on you and see if there's anything you need. There is a little bit of 'towels at dawn' sunbed saving where for instance a family reserved 2 beds with a towel next to us at 8.30 this morning only to finally turn up at 4pm to sit on one of them for 20 minutes! This didn't happen the last time we were here as the lifeguard/towel hut guy would sort the beds for you. The food is varied and good quality (huge prawns and smoked salmon today at lunch were amazing) and there's something for everyone all the time. There's no coffee option in the restaurant for after dinner that's one thing that could be initiated. The only thing for me that could be improved is the drink selection, it's the only all inclusive in the world that I've been to (Europe, Caribbean, central America) that doesn't have some form of baileys type Irish cream or sparkling wine. I expect top shelf branded alcohol to carry a charge but even simple cocktails, like a mojito carry a surcharge here if it's not a 'cocktail of the day'. There are 2 cocktails of the day made from pre mixed coolers. All inclusive bar finishes at 11pm and drinks after that incur a fee if you're a night owl. When you're here you really feel like they care that you have the best experience so if you come and need anything or have any problems, speak up, they will do everything in their power to make it right.

The hotel is small and friendly. Rooms are big and cleaned daily. The grounds and pool are clean and maintained. Pool is lovely and was used daily. The food was probably the best all inclusive I've had abroad. So much choice and lots of it. No tummy troubles and I thoroughly enjoyed trying the different dishes every night. The desserts are quite special too. I would say this hotel is more aimed at adults. There were a few children there but they didn't have much to do. Nothing much locally apart from a few shops outside. Also, whilst the hotel has ramps, it could be a little better in assisting disabled people. Especially in the dining hall. Those in wheelchairs should be placed at the front and not the back. It's not easy trying to get through lots of people. The staff ... Some of the nicest, hard working people I have met. The cleaner, pool man, entertainers, even the security guard outside. Always happy to help you and have a chat. They work long hours too. The beach was not so good. The bar and veranda was lovely and the food good, but the beach area is small and the sea choppy. Overall, I had a lovely relaxing break and I would happily go back.

Nice cosy hotel without the hassle and hustle of a large hotel. Staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them and everything is clean. Food is varied and delicious, beachside bar and restaurant does lovely crepes. The beach is superbly clean and the presence of guards makes you feel secure. They really take safety seriously. Shopping is best in nearby Nabeul, where local people shop. Animation team are awesome and work very hard keeping everyone entertained. Really recommend if you want a nice family vacation without the hassle of a large resort. Definitely will be looking to come again.

Location - 4/5 It takes around 1-1.5 hours for transfer to and from Endidha Hammamet Airport. There are several shops around the outside of the hotel, but I wouldn’t recommend them, as they can come across very aggressive and borderline harassment. The local bazaar/market was only a 20 minute bus journey (booked through travel agent) away, so very good in that aspect. The hotel is about a 3-5 minute walk away to the beach, but no need to worry about directions, as there is a private path that leads from the hotel to it’s own private part of the beach, where the À La Carte restaurant is, as well as the “Coco Beach” Beach Bar.

Rooms - 4/5 The rooms the Royal Nozha offers are decently spacious, featuring 1 double bed (although ours were 2 single beds pushed together, but not too much of a problem) and 1 single bed. This may be the standard for the country or area but the toilet unit was separate from the bath and sink (they were in separate rooms) which we were not fans of, but only mildly inconvenienced by this. The rooms are cleaned every day by housekeeping, providing fresh towels and toiletries as needed. The balconies provided extra room to relax as well. Other features of the room includes a mini fridge (albeit not stocked), TV, kettle (with teas and coffees), air conditioning, security safe, amongst some other things you’d typically expect in a hotel room.

Food - 5/5 Travelling around usually makes me personally a little nervous, due to dietary restrictions (vegan). However, the staff at the Royal Nozha were incredibly understanding, providing you can communicate what you can and cannot eat, and they are more than happy to point of what is available. If there’s nothing that suits any requirements, you can speak to the head waiter that will then sort it out with the chefs (this service was offered to me, but I didn’t need to use it). Breakfast (6:00am - 9:30am) items remained largely the same everyday, with the likes of eggs (including an omelette station, sausages, tomatoes etc, pastries, cereals, and fruit available. Lunch (12:30pm - 2:30pm) items varied with a wide selection of veg dishes, some pasta dishes, with grilled meats (sometimes there would be burgers, chicken and the like) available. The dessert bar was amazing looking desserts (none were vegan unfortunately) every day, with a salad bar as well. Dinner (7:00pm - 9:30pm) was very much like lunch, with the same range of items, but never the same food from lunch, which is nice variation. The restaurant itself is clean but can be quite cramped, due to its size. The food is a buffet style, so you can go as many times as you want. Drinks are self served at breakfast, and any other meal a waiter will take your drink order (a small tip will make the staff remember your drink/be more attentive to your table!!)

As for the À La Carte restaurant, I cannot comment on it as I didn’t manage to dine there, but the location is on the beach, as mentioned in the “Locations” heading. The restaurant serves snacks, including sweet crepes.

The Pool Bar also serves food, similar to that of the Beach Bar, including sandwiches with various fillings.

Other Facilities - 5/5 The pool at the Royal Nozha is really nice, at a decent size. The Animation (Activites) Team is friendly, and will offer for you to join in numerous activities that is offered, including water aerobics, water polo, amongst others. Right next to the pool, there is a dedicated children’s play area (although was empty throughout my entire visit), tennis court, and small gym (some cardio machines and weights). There is a Spa, but this is not covered under the hotel and will incur an additional fee, as with the photographer that is there. The Hotel, Pool and Beach bars are all nice, providing drinks for all around the hotel. WiFi can be a bit of a hit or miss, so a data plan may be better for some.

Accessibility - 5/5 There are ramps throughout the hotel, with lifts available for rooms on higher levels. There are also dedicated rooms with better accessibility on the ground floor...

Disappointing Experience - Not Worth More Than 3 Stars

We stayed at Royal Nozha in Tunisia with my wife, child, and both sets of grandparents, and sadly, the experience was underwhelming. While the hotel has potential, especially with its beach location, many aspects of the service and facilities left much to be desired.

Firstly, the "all-inclusive" package is misleading. When it comes to the bar, you're limited to just two cocktails, with the rest being charged extra. For example, a mojito, which uses local rum, costs 35 dinars approx 7 Euros/cocktail– an unreasonable price with no clear explanation.

The hotel has only one restaurant, and while the food is decent and tasty, there's little variety. The only One bar, is available in the evening, but it often lacks entertainment. If you end up with the bartender Ilies (careful here for his hygiene when preparing the drinks), prepare to tip, as he seems to expect it for basic service. Kudos to Sami, the other bartender, who knows how to engage with tourists and make them feel welcome.

The pool is nice, but there are only two extra activities offered, leaving guests with not much else to do.

The beach is the main reason we chose to visit in October, and while the beach itself is beautiful, the cleanliness is another story. The sand is littered with cigarette butts, garbage, and even horse and camel droppings. Despite having cleaning equipment available, the hotel doesn't seem to maintain the beach. The lifeguard, Mohamed, was more interested in asking tourists to bring him beer and food from the bar than actually doing his job. Over time, it became clear that his constant requests were more about personal gain than any real need and 90% of the time he is drunk , so no safety on the sea.

Red, the bartender at the beach bar, is friendly only if you tip him. Without a tip, you won’t even get a tray to carry your drinks, and there’s no staff to help bring drinks to your sunbed. The alcohol selection is limited to beer and wine, unlike at the pool where they serve cocktails. This might be hotel policy, but it’s disappointing and adds to the overall sense of poor service.

The food on the beach is another letdown – just four types of pizza and pancakes. The pizzas are tasteless, with dough, bland tomato sauce, and cheese, and if you’re unlucky, you might even get a pepper stem on your pizza. They also serve ice cream for the kids, which is the only positive note.

At the reception, two out of the three staff members are professional. However, one receptionist (a heavier-set man) takes a tip without asking when you exchange money unless you request a receipt. The others are more professional.

Room cleanliness was fine, and the rooms themselves are beautiful and well-maintained. In general, the staff, from the gardeners to the cleaning crew, and even the restaurant managers, are friendly and smile often. However, the service is weak – they smile, but they don’t do much beyond the basics.

The location is inconvenient, taking around two hours to get there by bus from the airport. Royal Nozha is situated on a noisy street, and rooms either face the gate with constant traffic noise or the kitchen, where you get the smell of food all day. At the restaurant, you’re given a card to hand to the manager so you can be seated, as they don’t have enough tables for everyone. If you want to sit outside, you’ll have to set your own table with cutlery , napkins, salt, and pepper from inside, which feels unprofessional and awkward.

In conclusion, this hotel doesn’t deserve more than 3 stars. The staff do the bare minimum and expect tips for basic service. It feels like the hotel only cares about providing a good experience during the peak season when they can fill the place. In the off-season, when the weather is perfect and you could truly enjoy your stay, the staff become disinterested and work only for tips.

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel unless management starts taking the quality of...

Ophold 23-30. august 2010||||Royal Nozha Hotel ligger ca. 6 km nord for Hammamet – modsat det mere elegante (?) hotelområde Yasmin Hammamet syd for byen. Dertil, ifølge. hotellets egen webside, to handicap-værelser og to ”Presidential” suiter (!).
