I had a wonderful stay at the Kirkit Pension in Avanos and my host, Osman, was fantastic. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because my stay got off to a bumpy start. My flight was delayed and landed 20 minutes late at Kayseri airport, about a 30-40 minute drive from Avanos. My host, Osman, had arranged a shuttle bus to pick me up but the driver was unable to figure out that the flight was delayed and left before I landed. ||I was unable to contact Osman at the Kirkit Pension, so I had no choice but to hire a taxi to Avanos and stay at another hotel for the night. I'm sure this could happen to anyone flying into Kayseri airport, no matter where they are staying in Cappadocia, so my advice would be to stay in close contact with the management at your hotel or pension on any flight delays, etc. if you're arriving at Kayseri airport.||The rest of my stay went beautifully, and Osman was terrific at arranging car rental, balloon trip, horseback riding, everything. He was really good at making sure everything was taken care of properly and was genuinely concerned that I have a great experience while staying there. I ate at the pension several nights and meals were delicious, with plenty of authentic Turkish cuisine with a French twist prepared by the 'chef' whose name I can't remember, but was a great guy and terrific cook. He would always bring me tea and a snack if i was sitting in the courtyard working on my laptop. ||The entire property is wonderfully appointed with items from the region: antique furnishings, pottery, traditional items and such. It was very inviting and really reflected the authentic feel of Cappadocia. My room was just as nicely done, with original photos, kilims, lamps, antique trunk, and a very large, comfortable bed. The bathroom and shower were spotless, new and well appointed, with ceramic tiles and a glass enclosed shower stall. The only issue I had with the room was that it didn't have a lot of room to move around in. But I really only used the room for sleeping so that wasn't much of an issue.||Some travelers have expressed a preference to stay in Göreme which is where the UNESCO site is located and is more of a 'tourist' town. I actually preferred Avanos and am glad I stayed there for several reasons. First, it has more of an 'un-affected' feel to it and, with a car rental, Göreme is minutes away. Second, the town itself is interesting and has the area's largest open-air market on Fridays, something I really found fascinating and enjoyable. Third, it costs a bit less to stay in Avanos so I could take the money I saved and spend it on the rental car to explore more of Cappadocia on my own. ||All in all, Osman, Cesar, Yasin, and the rest of the folks at Kirkit Pension made my stay delightful. Osman and Yasin in particular had extensive knowledge of history and culture and were both invaluable resources in helping me understand and appreciate Cappadocia. Plus they were warm, engaging, and a joy to chat with every day. Perfect examples of why Turkish hospitality...
Read moreEven though I've made my reservation one month prior to our accommodation for the family room, when I arrived the room was given to someone else. We had two choices; using our limited time to find some other place in another hotel which was kindly offered or stuck with the room name "Cemil". ||||We didn't want to go to hustle and started our medieval adventure. ||||Cemil room is a very good choice for the visitors who would like to experience underground city living. With a very small window facing to the entrance of the pension, it is rather depressive. ||The room and the pension has very little to offer, the room was not the focal point of our journey anyway, we have just used as a place to sleep even that was troublesome. ||There was some kind of dust coming from the ceiling all night. The shower is amazing, it is clean but you have to bend over to have a decent shower, practically it's just for the kids. ||The floor was pretty dirty and dusty. I understand it is cool to have some kind of "authentic looking rug and carpet" but it is not healthy. ||||If you are coming with a car, (which you should) you will be facing a parking problem, because you are literally at the middle of the city of Avanos. We had to left our car in front of the restaurants at the city center. The pension is very close to Kızılırmak river, I definitely recommend a walk by the river. ||||For the dining there are many restaurants around if you are looking for a cheaper alternative there is a fast food restaurant right across the street. ||||What I can tell you about this stone made/inn like pensions in the region is that, it's very good for the photography, but not very comfortable for accommodation. ||||All my comments are for the room Cemil. I cannot say much for the rest of the rooms, because I haven't seen them. ||||Although I was kindly offered to stay free of charge because of the misunderstanding, I was still disappointed. ||||If you are planning to stay in Kirkit, you have to make sure you have a room with plenty windows and confirm that they have the room of your choice...
Read moreIf you’re looking for the best hotel in Kapadokya, here it is. First of all the hotel itself is beautiful. The rooms are cozy and clean and the dining area is carved in the mountain, as many cave hotels in Kapadokya. Secondly the location is perfect. Avanos is a beautiful town, out of the crowded and touristic mess that is Göreme. If you’re looking for an authentic stay, this is the place to go to. Its full of restaurants and craftsmen shops. Finally the staff is that little plus that makes you want to come back. From the owner to the staff members, everyone is as friendly and helpful as it gets. We only spent three days there but I definitely could have stayed more. Yasin, the owner, also has a Kilim and halı shop next door, make sure to visit that before you leave. All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel for any kind of stays, as a couple, a lonely traveller, a group of friends or family! Thank you...
