It just doesn't work. This hotel is an embarrassment to the Accor chain. Have stayed here over the years and no matter how much you feed back to them what can be improved it is just ignored. Checked in. No welcome as an Accor member and no mention of the complimentary drinks. When I enquired I was told it was on the app. Sadly my psychic powers were failing me that day so maybe you could actually tell me when I check in? Requested a high floor front facing room, received a 2nd floor room facing the back. Moved to a 3rd floor room facing the front and new room didn't have any shower gel nor shampoo (both bottles empty). On the way back to the room l asked the guy if housekeeping didn't work on Sundays and he said 'of course they do otherwise your room wouldn't be ready'. Well mate it wasn't 'ready' as the amenities hadn't been refilled and it could have been 'ready' the day before for all I know. Judging by the state of the filthy unhoovered carpets outside the lift and along the corridor I was beginning to wonder if there was any housekeeping at all. Your sarcasm wasn't lost on me. The next day it was prevalent it was obviously beyond the wit of man (literally!) to program the room key for my 2 night stay as when I returned after being out ALL morning neither of the keys worked. Oh and just to add insult to injury my room hadn't been cleaned and that was 12.30pm! The hotel wasn't even busy! Did see a comment on a previous post about a cocky bloke working at the hotel and have to agree my encounters with him weren't much better. You might think you're funny but in fact you just come across as unprofessional and need to get yourself on a few customer service courses. All in all that was definitely the last time I'll stay there. My visits to Carlisle are an annual event but there's no point flogging a dead horse.....

Room can be quite cold at times, especially when sitting near the window. Heating is also quite noisy, but not too bad. Nice touch with the complimentary earbuds for a more peaceful night. Kettle and tea/coffee is included in the room too. Great location, with it being next door to a gym (for which you can get a day pass), and free parking. Breakfast is okay; good choice of options available. Not the highest quality of food, however, but could be worse. Sauces are runny and taste cheap. Rooms aren't the cheapest, and I would expect them to be slightly cheaper for what you get. Room was clean enough but some slight damages. When staying over, I noticed one room was missing a headboard, and the water pressure was not good at all. Rooms also had slight damages and imperfections, e.g. light switches being cracked. WiFi is, simply, horrendous. It barely reaches the rooms; Netflix works fine but other content can take a while (e.g. YouTube/BBC iPlayer). Walls were fairly thin too, with noises travelling from other rooms and the corridor. 24/7 pizza is available, but extra toppings cost more. The staff service and location are the only things which bring this review up slightly. Staff are really quite excellent! Overall, I would recommend the hotel as an okay place to stay for an evening or two - it does the job, but it's not somewhere to be expecting caviar and canapés. It really isn't the highest quality, but, as previously said, it does the job.

Check in easy, staff good - all helpful and friendly down to the cleaning staff who were very nice. It's well placed for the town centre but... there is noise from outside - fans from next door restaurant, traffic noise and people on their way home from a night out, they know about this as ear plugs were provided. We usually sleep with the window open but had to close it against the noise which made the room stuffy. I think that their sheets had shrunk in the wash as the sheet on the bed didn't reach the bottom! Also the quilt cover opening was at the side of the bed, no fastenings! (See photos) Attention to detail was lacking; dust on the bed base, dust along the edge of the carpet and behind the bed, there was only one tea bag provided, and the kettle etc were placed well away from any plug so had to reorganize the room. There were no USB plugs, had to go into town to buy an adaptor. Needed to iron a shirt and were directed to the ironing room on the second floor, the iron was dirty and marked the shirt, very disappointing. However, it was mainly clean, and served us for our needs for two nights but a little bit of extra care and attention would have earned 5 stars.

Solo travelers with dogs should avoid this hotel. It claims to be dog friendly but when you check in you are only then told you cannot leave your dog unattended in the room for any length of time.

This policy might be fine for couples or families who can pop out individually to run errands but when you are on your own it means you are unable to go to the supermarket around the corner for more dog food / emergency paracetamol etc. It also means you are forced to eat at sit down eateries rather than grabbing a sandwich from Tesco etc escalating the price of your trip significantly. As a recent widow this was a very unwelcome reminder of how much more difficult companies can make your life when they design their services purely for people who have the luxury of partners and families to support them.

The staff who took my complaint at first issued a standard computer says no response. The experience was made worse when the employee at the front desk took a haughty tone and told me 'we're not a kennel'. I explained that popping to the shop to get some more dog food - again difficult to carry enough when you are on your own - was hardly comparable to leaving my dog all day and night unattended as it would be in a kennel. I was then accused of wanting to ditch my dog 'are you telling me you wouldn't be gone for hours?'

I couldn't muster a verbal response to this accusation as anyone who loves their dog as I do wants them around as much as possible. It was pointless getting into it.

Ibis Carlisle were happy to take an additional £10 per night for the "dog friendly" service but would not accommodate my needs as a solo traveler one iota. To ambush guests with additional terms and conditions on check in is terrible. Their "pet policy" should be made clear before booking.

I had to book two last minute hotels due to their lack of transparency (more expense). Both hotels thought the Ibis pet policy laughable. So the good news is there are many other places in Carlisle that are happy to support solo travelers with pets. Ibis is one to avoid if you are in the same predicament as me. After the worst check in experience I've ever had at a difficult time, I won't be booking ever again. The one star is for the swift...

I was extremely disappointed and let down by the Ibis Carlisle which fell well short of my expectations during my stay compared with previous patronage at other Ibis locations in the UK.

The major plus point during my residency was now the majority of the hotel’s staff extended to me a fantastic welcome together with being efficient and professional, making me believe, that anything they could undertake to make my stay as pleasant as possible they would try to achieve.

However, there was nothing the team at the hotel could do about the fact that the hotel infrastructure is now exceedingly tired and worn out due to hard usage and given that it has obviously been years since any attention has been given to the state of the hotel décor and amenities with the rooms especially requiring a major program of refurbishment.

The rooms lacked any form of heating or cooling given that the system which should be supplying this facility had failed across the whole hotel, the carpets were stained and threadbare, the television was old, small, difficult to operate due to a faulty remote, the bed mattress was also old, worn out which made for an uncomfortable nights sleep, the water pressure from the shower was woefully lacking, shampoo bottles were empty, lights bulbs requiring replacing, I could add further issues that I experienced...

Noise is also an issue, both from internal and external sources, expect to hear everything that occurs in the adjacent room due to the thin walls between the rooms and then be woken in the early by refuge collections being made in the small hours of the day.

The open-plan ground floor reception, restaurant and bar communal areas are not a welcoming place to spend any time; there are not even any stools to enable guests to sit at the bar.

In summary, despite the fabulous efforts of the staff, this has to be an Ibis Hotel that ranks close to the bottom of the league of Accor Group hotels in the UK (if not the world) and therefore I cannot recommend the hotel to others, in fact, I encourage other potential guests to avoid this hotel at all costs and stay at other accommodation in Carlisle

I cannot recommend this Ibis Hotel and would urge this poor hotel to...

We visited this hotel on the 22nd July 2025|Right from the begining we hit problems with the room, the skirting board was laying on the entrance as we entered, I sat on the bed it rolled across the floor, contacted downstairs who told us someone would be up to fix it next day .this is a supposibly disabled room. Slipped in the shower not anti slip could have done myself an injury if I hadn't caught myself with the grab rail. Breakfast cold staff unfriendly, went out for the day came back no one had made the room up all they did was changed towels and loo roll (1) no sugar coffee had to go to reception to find some, early hours in the morning just after 2 am was awoken by constant dripping coming from the ceiling part in front of the shower room had a torch to worried about putting lights on had to put a towel down stop the noise saturated in the morning slippy floor .breakfast no better, asked reception if management was in shortly was told how shortly asked him half and hour an hour? no idea can i help no ty. Great management came took them up to the room showed them everything to be told the floor in shower room complies with rules mmm no you shouldn't slip on it told them if I fell you would be look at legal action and about the dripping oh yes it's the air conditioner does it all the time oh for goodness sake what the heck and you let us stay here???? yes hadn't been cleaned out in 8 years and room not cleaned yes I supplied to coffee ect when your partner came down to tell us room hadn't been touched ...paid our bill and left.I sent an e mail to the Ibis hotel group with this complaint on the 1st of august after waiting for them to contact us with my complaint and now looking into legal action hopefull something will be resolved here...oh we took pictures of everything such a horrid exsperience never again might be a court case coming up...
