Just look at that view! My friend and I were greeted with that on arrival at The Crags Accessible Pod - owned and run by Callander Youth Project Trust.||Located in Callander (Stirling), this self-catering accessible glamping pod is where we stayed for a week-long holiday in Scotland (2nd - 9th June 2023).||As a wheelchair user, it can be very difficult to find 'accessible accommodation' that meets all of my needs, so this was a great find!||Booking for the accessible pod can only be made over the phone. And before booking, the staff could answer any questions I had and emailed me additional photos of the facilities.||Key features include:||- Parking spot at the rear of the pod with ramp access to the pod itself.|- Wide doorways and a level interior.|- Sizeable wet room with shower/changing bench, adjustable-height washbasin, Clos-o-Mat toilet and a level-access shower.|- Profile bed (single) in the main bedroom, with ceiling (y-shape) hoist running through to the bathroom.|- Lounge area with seating and a well-stocked kitchenette, including a fridge, hob, microwave, instant boiling water tap and dishwasher. The sofa pulls out into a double sofa bed, and an additional zed-bed (fold-out) can be added to accommodate a maximum occupancy of 4.|- Outdoor (covered) veranda with extra seating and table.||It was very nice, clean, and had everything I needed, except for a wheeled shower chair, but that wasn’t a problem as I took my own.||The staff was very friendly and helpful and were very accommodating to our needs and requests.||It was like a home away from home (but with better views!) as everything was so easy for me to access. Overall, we had an amazing stay at The Crags Accessible Pod and would...
Read moreReview of main hostel, not the pods which looked excellent. |Good location, friendly staff on arrival and great garden space for relaxing...however I wouldn't stay in the main hostel again...clean room and shower facilities but the room window opened only a couple of cms but when shut blocked out none of the noise from the cars passing directly in front of the building until well after midnight. The kitchen was well-equipped and the common space large and clean. |The main negative was the comfort of the bed. I'm not particularly heavy at 75kg but when lying on my side I could feel each mattress spring to the point where I considered getting my camping mattress and lying on the floor. For context the previous night I'd wild-camped and slept much better. |The hostel is run by a social enterprise which I'd love to continue to support but not until they...
Read moreStayed here during the summer and had a pleasant trip. I was due to be in a mixed dorm - but as there had been an issue in a group's booking and the room was overbooked, one man of a group did not have a bed. I volunteered to move to the female only dorm, which was nearly empty except for two other beds. Until I overheard the predicament, the staff had kindly offered the man an alternative to stay on the sofas but make him comfortable, which was a kind gesture - though of course he had my bed in the end! Really nice staff, clean facilities and modern. Nice little cafe and seating area. It doesn't quite meet some of the SYHA standards in other hostels, but is great in its own right for a few nights' kip. Makes a good base to see the local sights, and there's some nice walks that start just on the...
