We decided to have a last minute break in Llangollen in February, and seeing lots of on line availability in town decided not to book anywhere and call in on spec. This is one of the few places in the town with parking so we called in. You’d be pushed to find a more welcoming host, so we decided to stay. We were not disappointed. The building itself is a historic coaching inn and has been knocked about over the years, but the current owners have made it a pleasant place to stay. All the furniture and beds etc are in good condition and it was spotlessly clean. The bed was comfy and it had a proper power shower with plenty of hot water. There were plenty of drinks in the room and you are able to get fresh milk for tea and coffee which is a big plus to me. Little touches like a sweetie jar and toiletries were welcome. Breakfast was top notch and cooked to order with whatever you want, including vegetarian. The lady who does the cooking could not have been nicer and provided a personal service with a smile. Location wise it is a short walk from the main high street but is on the busy A5 which was the main coaching route from London to Holyhead and is the reason it is there. This does mean there is some traffic noise from the front facing rooms if this bothers you, but this is Wales so it is really not that busy! If this bothers you, ask for a room at the back or the hotel will provide ear plugs, but it is really not bad at all. Secure parking is available and it is a short walk to the centre. We walked from Langolen to the aqueduct along the canal towpath which is a lovely walk of about 5km. If you don’t want to walk back, there is a bus every half hour. For the money, this is an excellent place to stay if you are...
Read moreWe stayed in the new self catering, single storey lodge, located in a secure, private courtyard at the rear of Cambrian House B&B. Wow! is what I said as soon as I walked in. The place is fabulous, spotlessly clean, with beautiful decor, so stylish and has everything you could wish for. So nice to stay somewhere that has a decent sized telly, which also has Netflix etc. WiFi too. The underfloor heating was lovely, so cosy to step onto after you've had a shower/bath, rather than cold tiles. The attention to detail with the decor was beautiful, stylish furniture, gorgeous hare and mouse lamps, so cute, plenty of storage, no expense has been spared. We always sleep with a window open, so having two skylights above us was great, a cool breeze at night and lovely to hear the church bells. Although the weather wasn't warm enough to use the outside seating area, the space was great, very secure for Samson, our dog and fantastic views of the ruins on the hill (Castell Dinas Brân). Cath was a fantastic host, warm and friendly, taking care to explain all the details as well as covid safe, and providing everything we needed, including recommendations of places to eat and visit. We didn't want to leave, Samson didn't want to leave either, he was made to feel extremely welcome as much as we were. The private, secure parking was an added bonus and not something you come across very often in a town. We can't recommend Cath's place enough, you certainly won't be disappointed if you book. Huge thank you to Cath from all three of us, we can't wait...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed at Cambrian House, Llangollen, for 3 nights beginning of March 2025 with Kath and her team. From the moment we manoeuvred our car into the parking lot we were greeted and felt welcomed. Being able to leave the car behind and move about on foot was a treat. We were shown to our double room with window to the back of the house which was very quiet and cozy. It had everything we needed, from a good-sized bed to a neat little bathroom with shower. Tea and coffee making facilities plus biscuits gave it a very nice touch. The breakfast was all we could hope for: cereals and fruit and warm breakfast with everything you wanted in the amount you wanted, too. We did long walks during the day all on that breakfast! Kath and her team really made us feel as part of the family - we’d love to stay there again anytime. The walks to and around Llangollen are very interesting and we all had a laugh the next morning at how many times we managed to get lost (never a problem as we could always have called on Kath to help and all the people of Llangollen are very tourist-friendly). The hotel itself is rather small, especially the stairwell to the rooms on the first and second floor, and it has a historic flair to it. You can still imagine the horse carriages stopping there and their drivers having a beer. This is the charm of the place. If you are looking for something big with cool modern architecture, the Cambrian is not the...
