I have been here a few times and have really enjoyed the food, and I've nearly always chosen the shoulder of lamb and it's beem fantastic. I last went there at the end of Novwmber and opted for the Sicilain seafood stew, as I'd had a few meat-heavy days previously. I was seriously disappointed. The broth in the stew left a really bitter aftertaste in my mouth, my wife tasted it and she fully agreed. It was as if the chef had failed to counterbalance the bitterness of the tomatoes in it - and I'm pretty sure it was tinned chopped tomatoes, hence the overpowering bitterness. I basically just fished the seafood and fish pieces out of the broth, wiped the broth off them with a napkin and ate them, leaving the broth untouched. I gave feedback to the waitress and she offered me some bread (that must be the policy in terms of responding to dissatisfaction) and she said that the chef would take the comments on board. Interestingly, she also said that she'd had the same dish a few days before and had a similar experience. I was like, thanks for the pre-warning! Another member of staff gave a minimal discount when we paid (the equivalent of a couple of drinks maybe). In hindsight, I should have rejected the dish on tasting the broth but hindsight is a fine thing. I would advise anyone thinking of eating here to avoid this specific dish and to take the fish and chips instead - it looked great. I should add that my wife had rump steak au poivre and she was delighted with her meal, and I also enjoyed my dessert, having opted for the hot drink and half...

Review: A Hidden Gem by the River

Nestled on the banks of a fast-flowing river, this gastropub is a delightful blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. From the moment you walk in, the friendly and attentive staff make you feel right at home, setting the tone for a wonderful dining experience.

The menu offers an impressive selection of classic English dishes, perfectly executed with a creative twist. Whether you're craving hearty pies, tender roast meats, or a beautifully cooked fish and chips, there’s something here to satisfy every palate. The portions are generous, and the quality speaks for itself, making it well worth the visit.

The atmosphere is another standout feature. For those seeking a romantic evening, there are cozy nooks with soft lighting that feel intimate and serene. At the same time, the pub also caters to larger groups with open, lively spaces perfect for celebrations or gatherings. The sound of the river rushing by just outside adds a unique and calming backdrop to the experience.

Overall, this gastropub combines excellent food, warm hospitality, and a picturesque setting to create an unforgettable dining experience. It’s the perfect spot for a date night, a family dinner, or even a casual catch-up with friends. Highly...

Booked a table earlier in the day (1st Aug 2022), lady on the phone was so lovely and seemed well versed in allergies (coeliac in the party.) We arrived half an hour or so early, with the idea of getting a few drinks until the table was ready, but we were told we could go to a table there and then if we wanted, which we were fine with. A younger girl looked after us, I never caught her name. She provided me with a gluten free menu, and allowed me to make slight changes just for my own comfort. I started with barbeque chicken wings, which were lovely, and my partner had the tomato soup, which he loved. I then had the steak, bacon, and venison pie, with chips instead of mash, and it was lovely. The pastry was standard for gluten free, but the filling was beautiful. The chips are huge, and the red wine gravy was a little on the thin side, but still good :) My partner had fish and chips, he had no complaints. Finally, we both had the triple chocolate brownie, which was, again, standard for it being gluten free. Definitely would come again after payday! Thank...
