We hired a lodge, with a hot tub, for a few days. Was one of the ‘original’ ones which now looks a little ‘tired’. Examples: flaking decking/boards outside, mould in shower tray, musty smell in main bedroom, scuffed wallpaper/covering. Mixed glasses in kitchen. Frying pan that has seen better days. Shower that took ages to empty, I suspect it needed cleared. Those types of things. ||Staff were friendly enough. Lots of scope on site for further expansion it seems, and I agree it feels like a ‘work in progress’. There are a few new lodges that are up for sale. Currently up to £300k! Jeez you’d have to love the area to see investment value in that. Though that is just IMO.||Within the accommodation there were no ‘touches’ that could give a warmer fuzzy feel. For example, per the Fort William site, pre-filled ice trays, reasonable quality toiletries (Highland Soap Company), etc. These are not essential but just leave things a little nicer. It’s like someone has put some extra thought into making the arrival (and subsequent stay) a little more pleasant. ||The gym is fairly well equipped and free to use for anyone staying there - you just need to sign a disclaimer from reception. It looks like it is hardly ever used. I’d imagine in future they might take it out and repurpose. Seems to be a very underutilised resource. Maybe it’s aimed at attracting people “we have a gym” but few actually go on to use it. ||The restaurant seems to have different hours from what is advertised in the ‘in accommodation’ folder. Supposedly this is down to being currently understaffed. Fair enough, a common theme within Highland hospitality settings. So we just did not bother. ||We previously stayed at Hoseasons Fort William. That is our future ‘go to’ over this one. Won’t revisit. Fort Augustus is nice enough, but the impression I have is that most locations selling stuff/food rely on transient ‘passing trade’ so can afford to be discourteous and unhelpful. It’s an embarrassment to Scottish hospitality (as a proud Scotsman myself). Not all places, to be clear. One or two spring to mind. Because Fort Augustus is so far out from anywhere else, you have no choice, other than a long drive to Fort William or Inverness.||Nice enough break. But seen it now, unlikely to revisit. It just kind of feels partially finished. Equally I don’t want anywhere that is rammed, but this kind of feels a little lifeless. ||I’m sure this might improve as the units get sold, and it gets a little busier. The longer term concern for me though would be the impression left by those venturing out to what Fort Augustus has to offer. Frustratingly that this is outside the direct control of this facility. For me, that would worry me. ||Fort Augustus: “come on guys, we are only as good as the least keen person who works in the area. What can we do to maximise visitor experience? If we all pull together and make visits special and memorable, there will be a buzz around coming to here”. ||Please note I am no ‘Karen’ (or male equivalent). When visiting static caravan parks I have reasonable expectations of what I can expect. I don’t think anything I have noted here is especially unreasonable. ||As I say just my opinion. I genuinely wish them well...
Read moreAppalled by the conduct and disregard for safety from this place.
We had a booking for Sun the 13th of Sep. We had already been driving for quite a while when a landslide hit the A83 completely blocking our route to this accommodation. We were met by the Road Transport Authority who advised this road would be closed for at least a week. After explaining where we were heading we were advised not to travel due to the torrential rain that had falling flooding many other roads further north and making travel extremely dangerous.
We phoned the accommodation as soon as we could which was at 11am. I explained the situation to the lady on the phone who could not have been less helpful if she tried. After explaining the A83 was closed her response was 'if your travelling from Glasgow you can take the A83'. Yes, the same road I have twice repeated was closed. After repeating myself for a 3rd time that the A83 is closed her response was 'why don't you go via Edinburgh', this would have taken several hours longer. She continually ignored the safety aspect of this in which I explained several times that we have been advised not to travel if we can help it by the Road Transport Authority. Torrential had fallin for 2 days solid, a landside occured, a car had flipped over on the A815 which meant further road closure, several roads were flooded. It would have been madness to travel after all of that. This lady I spoke to from Loch Ness Resort was only interested in the money. Completely dismissed any notion of a refund for these extreme circumstances. After 10 minutes of getting nowhere, i had to hang up the phone.
I sent a message via Booking.com to explain the situation. To make matters worse the response from the accommodation and I quote was 'we tried to help the customer but he refused'. That was all. A complete fabrication of what had actually happened. I stress, the lady on the phone was zero help, completely dismissed any safety concerns, told me to take a road that I already told her was closed and kept repeating 'if you tell me where you are I can look at a map for you'. I have a map on my phone like everyone else in Britain. Most of the world are aware of how a map works. The fact that she could not of cared less about safety and only interested in money has disgusted us. To then lie about the conversation that took place is appalling.
Clearly you need the £95 more than we do. You are welcome to it. I value the advice of the Road Transport Authority and safety of myself and my partner more than been forced to risk losing...
Read moreI’m afraid the resort in no way met our expectations. I think we really misinterpreted the photos on Booking.com and after a 5 hour drive we felt let down as soon as we saw the accommodations. Because we had paid the full amount in advance through Booking.com the resort told us we could not get a refund so we could look for something els. Booking.com told us they contacted the resort but the resort didn’t want to give us a refund . (It’s a shame they just can’t be honest about that) We asked if they had a nicer accommodation. They did and where willing to show it to us. It was bigger but as soon as we put one foot in the door we where greeted by a powerful odder. I think it could just have been that the place was bran new or cleaning chemicals but my wife didn’t want to stay there. The gentleman that was sowing us the cabin must have taken this as an insult has he immediately called out to my wife that she should leave the property if she is going to be like this! A bit perplexed she asked what he ment and he replied that she can’t speak to people like that. After I explained that she had not even talked to anyone his statement was unfounded. He paused knowing he made an error but then continued by stating to my wife. “Your attitude stinks” and that we should leave the resort. (No refund though). It was a very shocking display of unprofessionalism and I would hope the staff would be more suited for the hospitality industry. I guess if the place is not in the least what you where hoping for and you know you will now spend three of you precious vacation days and hard earned cash there you should just smile and imagine you are staying at the place across the street because they do actually have views of Loch Ness. We stayed for two nights (not the three we paid for). The pod had a good heating and we never ran out of hot water but that is bout all the positive things I can think of. We where told there was no WiFi at the resort but I think there was in the restaurant. We only had breakfast there and it was pretty good although a limited choice specially if you are travelling with kids. With the exception of the gentleman that took us to the cabin the staff where...
