Myself, my wife and 2 friends booked a table here before attending a show in the Forum. We booked the table for 6pm with the show starting at 8pm so we thought we had plenty of time for eating. Placed our drinks, starter and main course orders fairly quickly and all was going well up to this point. However we had a wait of almost half an hour for our starters to arrive. Then it was almost another half an hour after eating these before our main courses arrived, ie 7pm. We now knew we might be pushing it for desserts but by this time it was 7.20 so we thought desserts can't take long so we ordered them anyway. We said to the waitress that we were in a bit of a rush for the show and asked her what she would recommend. She advised us not to take certain dishes as these would be made up fresh and would take about 15 minutes. We took her advice and ordered something "handy" plus a cocktail. By 7.45 nothing had arrived so I called a male member of staff in a suit and asked about our desserts and the cocktail. He said he would check it out but as it was now 7.45 we had no time to eat them so told him to forget it. When we further complained when paying the bill he made a couple of excuses and just cut me off by saying "good evening". And this only a week after blowing their trumpet about winning a "best hotel" award???? Apart from this the waiting staff who took our orders were friendly and helpful and the...
ย ย ย Read moreTraveled from the USA to Derry on Business, stayed at the Bishops Gate Hotel for 4 days and I must say it was a very pleasant stay. This hotel has some interesting history I suggest you read up on it if you stay and take some time to walk around the halls and observe some of the various artwork , I found it very interesting. This Edwardian style Hotel had one of the most comfortable beds I ever slept in, the room was quiet and well kept. The staff was courteous and very helpful at check in and helpful with everything I needed during my stay. The morning breakfast was very good and I am thankful for the staff allowing me to show up a little early , my business schedule required me to catch a taxi at 7:15 so the staff worked with me to let me sit down a little early to have some coffee and light breakfast, that was very much appreciated. The hotel is walking distance to many good restaurants and bars and shopping stores, the Richmond shopping center and the Foyleside shopping center. I dined in the hotel restaurant twice and the food and service was excellent. I would highly recommend staying at The Bishops gate if you're...
ย ย ย Read moreBishop's Gate Hotel was one of the nicest hotels we stayed at during our two-week trip to Ireland and Northern Ireland in May 2025. It is also one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in - ever. It starts with the location. It is right in the center of the old walled part of Derry, making it easy to walk to all of the important historical sites in Derry. It is located in what used to be a private club for Derry's well-to-do. The hotel still has the feel of a private club - very elegant and cozy. We were unexpectedly upgraded from a Luxury King to the two-room Penthouse Suite. I have stayed at five-star luxury hotels in Hong Kong, Paris, London, Tokyo, and Mumbai, and this is one of the nicest rooms I have ever stayed in. It had windows on three sides of the suite overlooking the old town of Derry. The furnishings were luxurious. The rooms were huge. And the bathroom was spa-like. We had breakfast at the hotel which was very good. And the staff at the hotel couldn't have been nicer. I highly recommend Bishop's Gate Hotel if you are...
