Awful stay in this cold and inaccessible hotel.
I checked in late to the hotel and after changing to a new booking system with work I hadn’t been allocated an accessible room. After waiting a few minutes at the reception an assistant arrived and was happy to move me to an accessible room.
After experiencing an issue previously with hotel doors, my friend insisted she came to the room with me to make sure I could get into my room.
Just as well. We came out of the lift and the accessible room was some way from the lift, through a set of double doors, with no push pad. I use a mobility scooter and wouldn’t be have gotten to my room if she wasn’t with me.
Then we got to the room. I was unable to open the door myself as too heavy, and the thresh on the door was too high to get my scooter in.
The floor I was staying and my room was very cold, at this point I wasn’t concerned as I believed I had turned the heating on.
The room itself was accessible, in that it had a wet room not a bathroom, alarm cords and a telephone with very large buttons. An accessible bathroom seems to be all that is required for a room to be accessible.
By 10.45 the room still hadn’t heated up and I realised the air con had an error message and wasn’t working. By this time I was ready for bed and just wanted to go to bed so I plugged in the electric radiator and went to bed. The fact that the heater was in the room suggests the hotel knew the air conditioning wasn’t working.
Needless to say the temperature in the room didn’t increase overnight and the very thin quilt did little to keep me warm.
The following morning, I wanted to quickly get ready and go, though unfortunately the cold made my health condition worse and I was very stiff and slow.
I finally managed to turn the shower on, however I couldn’t turn it off and it was stuck on cold.
Due to the door situation my friend came to get me in the morning and tried to turn the shower off. It got stuck on hot and preceded to fill the bathroom with steam.
After failed attempts to call reception, my friend went downstairs to alert someone of the situation. The duty manager was leaning on a heater due to the cold. Very little by the way of an apology was given.
The maintenance manager was alerted to the situation in the room and came straight upstairs. He was unable to turn off the shower inside the room and via the stop cock in the hall, he eventually managed to turn it off.
And the toilet wouldn’t flush!
We discussed the temperature in the room and he explained the AC was being worked on and I shouldn’t have been allocated the room.
The maintenance manager explained he was new to the hotel and was looking at accessibility, and my friend and I talked him through the issues. He did ask me to email him with my comments, apologies to him I lost his email after I left.
The reception team and duty manager showed very little in the way of customer service, the maintenance manager was very apologetic and helpful.
I’ll not stay in this hotel again and would not recommend it to anyone requiring accessible rooms in the hotel’s...

I must say the hotel itself is absolutely lovely, the decor throughout is suburb and clearly carefully thought out. The hotel was very clean and tidy and they had an absolutely lovely fragrance throughout parts of the hotel which smelt beautiful and I thought that was a wonderful touch. I really liked it!
Check in was easy and we were able to check in earlier than the designated time which was very helpful. There was free fruited water at reception of which again was a lovely touch.
We ate in the bar area which was wonderfully decorated, clean and tidy. The staff were wonderful and very friendly. The menu in my opinion was a little limited and unfortunately they didn’t offer anything other than off the menu, for example my father wanted a side of mushrooms with his steak of which he’d happily of paid extra for but we were told they couldn’t do that even though they have mushrooms for breakfast. They also wouldn’t change the chips for mash or jacket potato etc again being told it wasn’t something they could do. There was only 3 desserts with one coming with an expresso ice cream that straight away limits your customers as alot of people may not like coffee, when asked if they had another flavour, vanilla etc they said they didn’t.
The rooms were lovely, spacious and the beds were very comfortable with a great variety of pillows. There was a bath and a shower with extra towels as well. Tea and coffee supplies and a kettle was present and again very nice, as were the views from the hotel. There was a TV in the room but unfortunately it only had limited channels as a lot had no signal and there was also no guide on the TV itself so you had to flick through all of the channels finding ones that worked to then find out what was actually on them. The rooms were sound proof and so it was very peaceful, although we had an early morning wake up call at around 04:50hrs as the fire alarm sounded, it went off quickly so it was suspected to have been set off in error.
The breakfast was very nice and appeared to have a great selection but having got there at 09:15 most of the containers for where things should have been were empty. There was no pastries or fruit left and the cold meats etc were all basically empty which is disappointing given that there was still sometime left to go before service finished.
Check out was again very easy and staff apologised to us regarding then fire alarm in the night.
The staff throughout the hotel were lovely from reception, bar and housekeeping of whom we encountered.
All in all the hotel was very lovely and I will definitely stay again, just a couple of not necessarily negative points but room for improvement and if they sorted those minor things then I would be giving this...

Before arriving I was informed that there was no parking on site and so I e-mailed for advice. All the information was received very quickly and professionally making for a smooth arrival. Advice given, park in the multi-story by the royal armoury with directions and postcode provided.| |2. 'Wow!' was my first impression on entering the atrium which far exceeded my expectation being large , airy and very nicely finished. Top marks from me| |3. My first impression on entry was only strengthened when I reached reception for Beccy (apologies if I spelled her name incorrectly). Very professional, confident, knowledgeable, efficient and just as importantly, very personable which made me feel both welcomed and valued as a customer. As someone with a large team myself, she is someone that I can see progressing her career to management and so I'd happily recommend her for development.| |4. My room (517 for my 1st April one night stay) was well presented, very clean, quiet and with great views. | |5. There was a minor error with my dinner order but I always say the true measure of any business or person is how problems are resolved. Ishmael (again apologies for any spelling errors) managed the issue efficiently, professionally and above my expectations and so deserves a specific mention. The chicken Caesar salad I had was very good with fresh crispy leaves and succulent, well seasoned chicken| |6. An efficient and friendly check out including the simple process for gaining the reduced car park price.| |Nothing is ever perfect though and so a couple of thoughts:|- while food is served in the bar, the majority of tables and chairs were low level and designed more for relaxing and drinking than eating which wasn't great for a meal. A few more 'normal' height dining tables would be a good addition.|- it would have been nice to have a little more breakfast selection such as poached eggs cooked to order rather than the usual scrambled and fried, and natural yoghurt rather than just flavoured but that is a minor thing compared to the overall experience.| |All in all, I truly enjoyed my short stay and this hotel will now be my first choice when next in the area. ...
