Had 2 stays here. First stay was the sunset boulevard room, absolutely stunning, clean, and no issues at all. Second stay however wasn’t great. Firstly they had an offer on if booked directly so did that even though it was cheaper on booking.com Upon arrival, lovely receptionist , smooth check in. But upon entering our room I noticed a half empty glass of wine on the dresser, which says to me the room hadn’t been cleaned. Glass ring marks on the table, mark on the bed, TV didn’t work, payable items had been opened, so I popped to reception, receptionist was really lovely , apologised and offered an alternative room. That was no issue at all. Had the room have been cleaned it would have been a great room, lovely room with balcony (room 5) cosy mattress etc. So I gathered my things and switched. Room looked great (room 8) was clean and settled in well. Popped to reception as the offer I’d booked was pizza and drinks upon arrival but was told I’d have to pop across the road at Fibre bar for those. Slight inconvenience as I wanted to settle into the room, but headed over nether the less. Upon arrival, a staff member informed me they were closed and planned on opening at 6. Ok fine, planned to return later as I had plans soon so had to find somewhere to grab something to eat before plans. Returned later when opened and the bar informed me they weren’t doing pizzas. So didn’t get my offer. And also informed me I couldn’t have 6 drinks as was stated on hotel offer as they didn’t know anything about it. Fair enough. Lack of communication between the 2 businesses there. So I’d paid extra for my room with an offer of pizza and drinks on arrival plus 6 free drink vouchers and only received a drink. Misleading advertisement. Headed back to the hotel and got into bed. Oh my god, the mattress was awful ! Not like the previous 2 rooms. It was really flat and could feel all the springs. But had a pretty decent sleep regardless. Next morning, woke up by the sound of keys and a door opening but just presumed it was the room next door, opened my eyes and the cleaner was stood there staring at me laid in bed, nothing on, half asleep 😬 WTF. That was just the icing on the cake for my stay ! In summary, some rooms great, others not so much. Very much unorganised place....
Read moreJust don’t do it. They claim it’s a party hotel and that’s mainly an excuse to try playing down the fact it’s noisy (and I’m sure will be mentioned in the response from them to this review).
“A party hotel for adults is a hotel that offers accommodations for guests who want to celebrate a special occasion or have a night out” according to Google. Last I checked this is not “a party hotel is gonna shake your fillings out from the window to the wall”.
The room was horrific and stunk of cigarettes (including the bedding) even though there’s a no smoking policy. The air conditioning was leaking and had clearly been bodged in the past and the icing on the cake? You’re right above a nightclub. Like literally the ground floor is a trance palace until 4am on weeknights. I get that the website says there’s going to be some noise from the local area (train line nearby etc), but it refrains from mentioning the entire room is buzzing from the music once it starts (and not in a good way buzz, think more Uncle Fester shock machine at the arcades buzz). We lasted an hour in the room before heading out at 11pm to find another hotel, luckily the Queens took us in and even gave us an extremely healthy discount and an upgrade to a suite as the girl behind the desk felt sorry for us. She remarked we’re not the first people to abandon the Briggate and definitely won’t be the last as it has a ‘reputation’ amongst the other hotels in the area.
If you’re looking for a hotel to crash in after a night on the town then go for it as you’ll be too blitzed to notice its shortfalls, but if you’re hoping to get a decent nights sleep: Go elsewhere.
NOTE: Make sure you question the £50 extra surprise deposit you have to pay when checking in as this was a nasty shock and we had to fight fist over thumb to get this back over the following weeks as Briggate weren’t...
Read moreI have never before moved hotels in the middle of the night until i booked here. Don't waste your money unless you don't want sleep. This is directly above a night club which locals say goes on to 4am... we could hear the music louder 2 floors up than in reception. The description says 'busy' area. Fine I expected trains and talking from maybe a bar, I used to live in a city but not a bassy beat vibrating the walls and furniture. DO NOT WASTE TOUR MONEY. They even charge you for every little thing.... £15 for sanitary items is a joke.
Staff are normally at a hotel all evening but they state staff aren't there from 11pm... I was trying to check out at 5 to 11 pm on the same night and no one was there. No support for an incredibly stressful situation. So impersonal for the price. Absolutely mortified.
Hidden costs for booking here. Your relationship £200+ for another hotel room because its last minute. £65ish for the car park as the code for their discount doesn't work. £??? Driving in circles to get to their discounted parking as their are road works everywhere. Fine,no problem with that but they didn't have a clue how to help when we got caught in the road work loop. Hearing loss guaranteed Frustration guaranteed Any money on the room might as well be thrown in the bin
Rooms are very small with no storage. Im 5ft 4 and struggled with the height of the shower as we were in the roof?!... Basically not fit for purpose unless you need to sleep in the day. The bass will even keep the blind awake with the vibrations!
We saw another couple who clearly did stay the night and they looked grey they clearly hadn't slept a wink.
If you want to test the strength of your relationship, this is the place to go... can't even get all our money back, despite going through all that. Not fit for purpose....
