Deceptive, Dirty, and Disrespectful Worst Hotel Experience I’ve stayed in budget hotels before but nothing prepared me for how mentally exhausting, physically uncomfortable, and emotionally degrading our stay at The Brompton Hotel would feel. I’m sharing our experience not out of anger, but because no one deserves to be treated this way. We arrived at 12:30 AM, drained from traveling. Instead of being welcomed, we were told we had to pay a £50 “late check-in fee” something that had never been mentioned during booking. When we asked for a document, the receptionist told us the printer was broken, and said it was “just policy.” No evidence, no confirmation just words. After some confusion, he gave us a handwritten note saying we wouldn’t be charged. Yet the next morning, £50 was deducted from our deposit no receipt, no explanation, nothing. It felt like a silent punishment for questioning him. More disturbing was what happened before check-in. He told us our booking was cancelled, which we knew wasn’t true. When we said we would report this, he suddenly “found” the reservation. It felt manipulative and left us feeling deeply uncomfortable. We waited at reception for almost 2 hours, standing in silence while he ignored us. His tone was cold, unbothered, and borderline condescending like we were an inconvenience, not guests. At one point, he physically stood in our path in a way that felt controlling and made me feel personally cornered. And then the room… It smelled like wet carpet mixed with old pipes, the bathroom reeked of mold, and the bedding gave off a sour smell that made me not want to lie down. I’ve stayed in hostels that were cleaner than this. The air in the room felt humid and stale, like the windows hadn’t been opened in weeks. They also photocopied our IDs without explaining why or how that data would be stored or used. No privacy statement. No reassurance. Just a machine noise and a shrug. By the end, we didn’t feel like we’d been in a hotel. We felt like we’d been run through a system designed to confuse, corner, and quietly take from us while pretending to be something it’s not. To be clear, everything above is based solely on our personal experience, and others may see it differently. But I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone I care about. It wasn’t just bad it was unsettling.

It was uncomfortable, shady, and borderline disturbing. I walked in expecting a hotel. I walked out feeling tricked, disrespected, and frankly disgusted. You don’t just lose money here you lose trust. Please don’t make the same mistake. Avoid this place completely.

As a solo traveler in London for a weekend this fit the bill. Bedroom was small but it’s London…I was never there except to sleep. Very quiet. Bed was old and not the mist comfortable but clean and I wasn’t expecting a five star experience. I will say that if you have heavy or large luggage or aren’t used to living in a walk up apartment the stairs could be challenging, I just had a backpack so all good. Wifi worked no issues and I appreciated the mini fridge for leftover dinners cold water etc. Location is awesome direct line to Heathrow and steps from V&A, Hyde Park, etc etc. Lots of coffee and quick lunch options right outside so great for being on the go.

As a solo traveler in London for a weekend this fit the bill. Bedroom was small but it’s London…I was never there except to sleep. Very quiet. Bed was old and not the mist comfortable but clean and I wasn’t expecting a five star experience. I will say that if you have heavy or large luggage or aren’t used to living in a walk up apartment the stairs could be challenging, I just had a backpack so all good. Wifi worked no issues and I appreciated the mini fridge for leftover dinners cold water etc. Location is awesome direct line to Heathrow and steps from V&A, Hyde Park, etc etc. Lots of coffee and quick lunch options right outside so great for being on the go.

DO NOT STAY HERE! We should have listened to the previous reviews that warned of the inadequacies of this hotel. I wish we would have. In addition to the poor customer service, the outlets in the hotel sparked upon plugging in the adapter. There was no air conditioning or a fan. You could not move through the room unless all persons were on their bed, and the bathroom shower was completely inaccessible even for an able bodied person. I can’t reiterate enough my disappointment in the customer service at this hotel. Which is a shame because good customer service would have helped alleviate a lot of the problems. |When the booking was first made, the accommodations requested were in a Handicapped Accesible location or on a lower floor.|Upon receipt of this request the hotel replied that there would be a second floor accommodation available. A second floor per British standards is “the floor that is two floors above the ground level. I have taken video and photographs showing that the Brompton location has indeed a first floor after 17 steps. Then 4 more steps to another floor. A third set of steps that takes you to a floor, and a fourth set of steps that takes you to the floor we were assigned to stay on. Additionally, in British English, the second floor could be understood as the the floor of a building that is two floors above ground. As evident in the video and the photographs, the floor we stayed on is definitely 3 floors (set of steps) above ground level. |Additionally, a second inquiry to the hotel asking about “step-free” access from the underground transit to the road was made. The response to this inquiry was received several days after inquiry, and the response from the hotel was made while in transit to the hotel. This response only then included mention of about 40 steps. The actual count is 44, and no physically challenged individual should be expected to climb that height. And the response was received too late to make any changes. |Additionally, upon check-in, Harry mentioned there was no rooms available on the lower floor. |It was only after we called bookings.com that a communication was received from bookings.com that Harry offered to move us to the “first floor” or the floor that is two sets of steps from the ground floor. This accommodation would help with the steps, but we discovered the bathtub was also inaccessible for someone with mobility limitations, and when we considered the fall risk associated with the bathroom and the steps to the room, and the amount of walking to do in London, we made the difficult decision to leave. This was not decision we wanted to make, but this accommodation was UNSAFE for the two individuals in the group who have mobility challenges. I requested that the cancellation of the reservation first made for the following day, agreeing to pay for 1 night- even though we would not be staying that night in fact. Not only did Harry refuse to allow us to check out, he insisted we email hotel management. We have now sent three emails, with no response. We stayed 7 days in a different London hotel...

αναξιόπιστοι.||Μείνετε Μακρυά από αυτό το ξενοδοχείο.||Έκανα κράτηση για 402 λίρες για 2 ενήλικες (35 & 18 χρονων) και 1 παιδί (12 ετών)! Κατά την κράτηση στην ηλικία του παιδιού έβαλα 12 ετών!!! Όταν έκανα την πληρωμή διαπίστωσα πως η κράτηση ήταν 100 λίρες φθηνότερη! Περίμενα την επιβεβαίωση από το κατάλυμα καθώς και την επιβεβαίωση αν μπορούσα να κάνω τσεκ ιν νωρίτερα και η απάντηση ήρθε κάποιες ώρες αργότερα πως η κράτηση ήταν : δίκλινο με παιδί 0 ετών! Και το αίτημα μου δεκτό! (Για το τσεκ ιν υπέθεσα)!||Έπαθα αμέσως πανικό τότε διαπίστωσα γιατί ήταν 100 λίρες φθηνότερα! Αμέσως έστειλα mail στο ξενοδοχείο και μήνυμα μέσω της booking από την εφαρμογή! Για τρεις μέρες προσπαθούσα να επικοινωνήσω με κάθε τρόπο!! Στο τηλέφωνο με έβαζαν συνέχεια στην αναμονή και στα mail και μηνύματα δεν απαντούσαν! Αγχώθηκα τότε πολύ δεν ήξερα αν ισχύει η κράτηση καθώς είχα 5 μέρες διορία για το ταξίδι! Επικοινώνησα τελικά με αντιπρόσωπο της booking και μόνο τότε επικοινώνησε το κατάλυμα μαζί μου στέλνοντας μου την ακόλουθη «πολιτική» τους: Για εξτρα κρεβάτι 320 λίρες!!!!!!!!!!!! ||Μίλησα στο τηλέφωνο με αντιπρόσωπο της booking και η ίδια παραδέχτηκε πως το ποσό ήταν αρκετά μεγάλο!!!!||Το ξενοδοχείο συνέχισε απλά να μου στέλνει την «πολιτική» του! Και όχι να προσπαθεί να με εξυπηρετήσει! Μάλιστα με ρώτησαν αν θέλω να κάνω ακύρωση της κράτησης αλλά να γνωρίζω πως στην «πολιτική» τους δεν υπάρχει επιστροφή χρηματων!!! Δηλαδή αντί να βρουν μια λύση για τον πελάτη τους μου πρότειναν την ακύρωση!!!!||Μετά από λίγο αφού μεσολάβησε η αντιπρόσωπος της booking μου έστειλαν «καλύτερη προσφορά» 219 λίρες για κρεβάτι και όχι καναπέ καθώς μας έκαναν και upgrade και τα χρήματα τα ήθελαν επιτόπου!!!! Τους απάντησα πως θα τους αποπληρώσω το ποσό κατά την άφιξη μου!!! Εκείνοι επέμεναν και επέμενα και εγω!! Εργάζομαι στον χώρο των τουριστικών και είμαι υπάλληλος ξενοδοχείου γνωριζω πολύ καλά ΠΌΤΕ ΚΑΙ ΠΏΣ επεξεργαζεται ενα ξενοδοχείο την πολιτική του!! Έγινε ενα λάθος είτε δικό μου είτε από το σύστημα ΔΕΝ ΖΗΤΗΣΑ ΝΑ ΜΗΝ ΠΛΗΡΩΣΩ!!! Ζήτησα να πληρώσω στην ΤΙΜΗ ΤΗΣ ΗΜΕΡΑΣ ΤΗΣ ΚΡΑΤΗΣΗΣ ΠΟΥ ΕΙΧΑ ΗΔΗ ΚΑΝΕΙ ΚΑΙ ΕΞΟΦΛΗΣΕΙ ΟΛΟ ΤΟ ΠΟΣΟ ΑΠΕΥΘΕΙΑΣ. ||Δεν είχαν καμία θέληση να εξυπηρετήσουν! ||Ύστερα μόλις είπα πως όλα θα καταγράφουν κατά την αξιολόγηση μου έδρασαν αμέσως και με κάλεσαν στο τηλέφωνο!!! Μου διάβασε από την αρχή όλη την «πολιτική» ο ρεσεψιονίστ!!!! Εν τελεί μου εδωσε διορία να αποπληρώσω το ποσό των 199 λιρών μέχρι δυο μέρες (σαν να του χρωστούσα)! Το έκανα ΚΑΙ ΑΥΤΟ! Καθώς θα συνόδευα δυο παιδιά στο πρώτο τους ταξίδι κι δεν μπορούσα να κάνω ακύρωση με επιστροφή χρημάτων! Αν μπορούσα θα το είχα κανει χωρίς δεύτερη σκέψη!!!||Ζήτησα απόδειξη και μόνο τότε μου την απέστειλαν και όχι από μόνοι τους!||||24 ώρες πριν την άφιξη μου στο Λονδίνο μου έστειλαν mail πως κ τα το check in πρέπει να δεσμεύσουν από την τράπεζα μου 75 λίρες!!!!! Λέω αποκλείεται να αφορά εμένα που έχω αποπληρώσει ήδη όλο το ποσό και με το παραπάνω!!!! ||ΚΑΙ ΟΜΩΣ!!!!!!!!! ||Εκπληξη!!!!!||Φτάνω στο ξενοδοχείο 13:00 βλέπω σημείωμα πως ο ρεσεψιονίστ λείπει 15’ για διάλειμμα, περιμένω με 2 παιδιά κ τις βαλίτσες μας!!! Στα 13 λέπτα ξεκινάω να χτυπάω το κουδούνι! Τόσο άτυχη να βγήκε διάλειμμα με το που έφτασα!!!!;;;||Έρχεται μια κυρία λέει από δω θα αφήσετε τις βαλίτσες το τσεκ ιν είναι στις 15:00. Ούτε αυτή την χάρη μου έκαναν σκεφτομαι! ||Μέχρι να βολέψουμε τα πράγματα έρχεται ο ρεσεψιονίστ που μίλησα στο τηλέφωνο! Μου συστήνεται κλπ φυσικά εμένα η διάθεση μου και η εμπιστοσύνη μου δεν υπαρχουν!!!! Αλλά λέω έναν ύπνο θα κάνω! Να πάει στο καλό! Και ξεκινάει το δεύτερο μέρος!!!! Καθότι ο κύριος μου είπε πως για χάρη μας έκανε upgrade στο δωμάτιο και θα κάνει τώρα το τσεκ ιν!!! Δεν ξέρω τι διάθεση θα είχατε εσείς για όλα αυτά εγώ ήθελα να μπω στο δωμάτιο να βάλω τα παιδιά να νιώσουν ασφάλεια πως έχουμε κάπου να μείνουμε και απλά χωρίς πολλα λόγια να γίνει τυπική η όλη διαδικασία! Μου ζήτησε τις 75 λίρες εγώ αρνήθηκα καθότι έχω εξοφλήσει όλο το ποσό κ ήθελα απλά να κάνω το τσεκ ιν. Μου είπε ότι μπορεί να κάνουμε ζημιές στο δωμάτιο και ΠΩΣ ΑΥΤΗ ΕΙΝΑΙ Η ΠΟΛΙΤΙΚΗ ΤΟΥ ΞΕΝΟΔΟΧΕΙΟΥ! Του είπα ΔΕΝ ΘΕΛΩ ΝΑ ΑΚΟΥΣΩ ΑΛΛΟ ΓΙΑ ΑΥΤΗ ΤΗΝ ΠΟΛΙΤΙΚΗ ΠΑΡΕ ΤΗΝ ΚΑΡΤΑ ΠΑΡΕ ΤΑ ΛΕΦΤΑ ΚΑΙ ΔΩΣΕ ΜΟΥ ΤΟ ΚΛΕΙΔΙ ΝΑ ΤΕΛΕΙΩΝΟΥΜΕ ΔΕΝ ΘΕΛΩ ΝΑ ΞΑΝΑΜΙΛΗΣΩ ΜΕ ΚΑΝΕΝΑΝ ΣΑΣ. Μου είπε πως είμαι αγενής και με έστειλε πίσω για τιμωρία με 2 ΠΑΙΔΙΑ ΝΑ ΓΥΡΙΣΩ ΣΤΙΣ 3 για το τσεκ ιν!!! ||||Γύρισα στις 18:00 τους έδωσα cash 80 λίρες χωρίς να μου δώσουν ρέστα! Είπαν θα κρατήσουν αυτά!!!! πήρα ένα χαρτί χειρόγραφο πως τους έδωσα 80 λίρες και θα τα πάρω όταν κάνω τσεκ αουτ! Και μου υπενθύμισε ο ρεσεψιονίστ ΠΩΣ ΣΕ ΠΕΡΙΠΤΩΣΗ ΠΟΥ ΧΑΣΩ ΑΥΤΟ ΤΟ ΧΑΡΤΙ ΤΑ ΧΡΗΜΑΤΑ ΔΕ ΘΑ ΤΑ ΠΑΡΩ ΠΙΣΩ!!!!!! Και πως όταν κάνω το τσεκ αουτ αν ο ρεσεψιονιστ λείπει να αφήσω το κλειδί! Και τα χρήματα αν λείπει ο ρεσεψιονιστ πως θα τα πάρω πίσω;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; Έμεινα με την απορία!!!!!!!!!!!!||Το δωμάτιο είναι στον τελευταίο όροφο (χωρίς ασανσερ ανεβάσαμε τις βαλίτσες μας) πολύ μικρό για τρια άτομα! Κάνει κρύο από τις 6 που φτάσαμε στο δωμάτιο και η ζέστη άναψε στις 20:00! 4 διανυκτερεύσεις 4 φακελάκια καφέ 4 ζάχαρες 4 γαλατακια μερίδα! Ψυγείο χωρίς νερό!!! Ένα σαπούνι χεριών μιας χρήσης για τον καθένα και 10 ml σαμπουάν για τον καθένα!!!!||Έχω βγάλει φωτό όλο το δωμάτιο δεν τους έχω καμία εμπιστοσύνη για το αν θα μου επιστρέψουν τα χρήματα ή μήπως με χρεώσουν κι αλλά! Και από τις κριτικές που διάβασα πως χρεώνουν ζημιές που δεν υφίστανται. Υπήρχαν τρύπες στους τοίχους οι κουρτίνες πεσμένες και η πόρτα είχε κάποια χτυπήματα και κάτω από το καλαθάκι του δωματίου υπήρχε μια τρύπα στο χαλί!! Αυτό το είδα καθώς πήγα να ανοίξω το ψυγείο!!Το έβγαλα φωτογραφία και αυτό!!||Πήγα και τα έδειξα αργότερα στον ρεσεψιονίστ και μου είπε να χαλαρώσω και πως θα επιμεληθεί το house keeping ! ||Το νερό στο ντουζ πρέπει να το αφήσεις πολύ ώρα για να τρέξει (χωρίς πίεση) ώστε να βγάλει ζεστό νερό! Πετσετες άλλαζαν κάθε μέρα! Και προσπαθούσαμε να έχουμε τακτοποιημένα τα πράγματα μας! Διότι το σώματι ήταν πολύ μικρό για τρία άτομα.||Κατά την διάρκεια της διαμονής μας δυο φορές βρήκαμε ανοιχτές τις βαλίτσες!! Με ρώτησαν τα παιδιά και για να τα καθησυχάσω τους είπα πως μάλλον ξεχάσαμε να τις κλείσουμε (ενώ δεν ίσχυε κάτι τέτοιο!!) ||Την ημέρα της αναχώρησης πήγα για το check out και ΕΝΝΟΕΙΤΑΙ πως μου έκαναν θέμα για το χαλί!!!! Ευτυχώς που είχα βγάλει τις φωτογραφίες και τους τις έδειξα!! Μου είπαν πως πρέπει να κάνουν έρευνα για το αν το κάναμε εμείς καθώς δεν υπήρχε αυτή η τρύπα όταν μας παρέδωσαν το δωμάτιο! Έδειξα την ώρα και την ημερομηνία μου έλεγαν πως άλλαξα την ώρα και την ημερομηνία και πως θα δουν από τις κάμερες τι ώρα έκανα check in!!!! Προσπαθούσαν να μου χρεώσουν αυτή τη ζημιά που δεν έγινε από εμάς!! Και καθήσαμε πόση ώρα μέχρι να τελειώσουν την έρευνα τους!!!!!Έμεινα ψύχραιμη λόγω των παιδιών!! Στο τσάκ ήμουν να φωνάξω την αστυνομία!!! Και φυσικά είχαν ψάξει τις βαλίτσες γιατί βρήκαν την ισιωτικη μαλλιών μου!! Την οποία δεν είχα βγάλει από την βαλίτσα και δεν την χρησιμοποίησα καθώς υπήρχε μπιστολακι μαλλιών στις παροχές!!! Μέχρι και τα μαλλιά μου κοιτούσαν!!!Μετά από 40 λεπτά αφού τελείωσαν την έρευνα, μου επέστρεψαν τα χρήματα! αφού τους πήγα και το μηχάνημα να δουν αν υπάρχουν ίχνη καψίματος!!!!!!||Έχω κάνει πολλα ταξίδια στη ζωη μου και στην Αγγλία ξανά! Όμως αυτό δεν το έχω ξανά συναντήσει! Πολύ κακή και αγενής συμπεριφορά σχεδόν ρατσιστική!!!||Προφανώς όλο αυτό γίνεται γιατί είμαστε Έλληνες;;;!! Ή γιατί είχα παιδιά;;; Και αν ναι ας διαβάσουν ιστορία οι ρεσεψιονιστ για το ποιοι είναι οι ΚΛΕΦΤΕΣ! Θα πρέπει να ξαναγίνει αξιολόγηση γιατί δεν είναι 2 αστέρων! Και η booking να εξετάζει τις κριτικές και να αξιολογεί με ποιους συνεργάζεται!! Καθώς από ότι είδα υπάρχουν πολλά παράπονα...

I had to book at the last minute due to my air bnb hostess cancelling on the day of my travel.With some knowledge of the reviews and ratings on here,I wasn't sure of what to expect .

Finding it was very easy , the location was excellent and very ideal due to South Kensington being my favourite part of London.

The receptionist was very calm,respectful and friendly. What else do you need?Booking was straight forward..and..you handed the keys back to reception as you got out.

My room was located right at the top.Stairs were not a big problem as I am quite active but I can see why other people may have difficulties using them.The view from my room was perfect ..I could do some sketches of life below and watch as things went by.Basic things you need for a 3 day stay...Nicely made bed,fridge and telly..plus ensuite bathroom. I had slight difficulties with the latter but once you get to know how to use it,you can enjoy your nice hot showers.

Breakfast was offered every morning..toast,egg(I do like it hard boiled and it was although there was an egg cup too!),milk,sugar,butter,marmalade and a hot kettle of tea , all on a tray.The phone in the room rang each morning to say it was ready and coming to your room about 5 minutes before your preferred time.The guy serving for the first two mornings was very polite.

I had a great time without even accessing the bar below,which looked interesting and friendly.Next time maybe.. when I am more familiar with the hotel.

Things which may help could include instructions for the shower or offering to show anyone who has difficulties with it,a small radio in the room...if you want to chill out at night without the glare of the telly,and..information on how room service works and the times things are done.

Only drawbacks were my fridge suddenly getting a bit noisy on my last night . .it only lasted for about 10 minutes , but loud enough to wake me up,and finally, the last person to serve me breakfast did not call beforehand but knocked at half eight and left the tray on the floor in front of my door .I just managed to catch a sight of him in a big hurry , hurtling down the stairs !

If you are not mightily fussed and you need a place to stay whilst mostly out throughout the day;this is for you.I would say 4.5 stars and the remaining .5 to even get better .I know I have a place to stay again when I am back in London!And the pricing is decent for such an affluent part of...
