This was my second stay. One year ago I was very impressed and happy that I had found such a jewell in a place like Depford Bridge. This time, however, I left really disappointed.
Firstly, I stayed several nights (I extended my stay twice) during an extremely cold period. The first night was freezing cold; I went to reception to ask for an extra duvet but I was told the housekeeper had left by then so I had to wait until the next day. The next day I asked the duty receptionist to get me an extra duvet as that night it was forecast to be even colder. When I went back to the hotel many hours later I noticed that my request had fallen on deaf ears so I went back to reception and this time it was impossible not to exert a bit of pressure, and the same receptionist from the previous night got me an extra duvet straightaway (even “after” the housekeeper had left for the day...)
Secondly, even though I stayed one week in total, they didn’t even empty the bins once. When I questioned this they said there was no room service at that hotel. Fair enough, but there is nowhere to leave the rubbish. Considering it is an appart hotel and there is a kichenet, guests are expected to cook and therefore generate rubbish which they would need to dispose of, such as packaging, empty bottles etc. This is not rocket science but very BASIC stuff. When I drew this to the receptionist’s attention over the phone, surprisingly he sounded quite rude as if he was looking to have an argument with me which it was completely out of place in his position. Only when I pointed this out to him, his tone of voice became polite and he acquiesced to send somebody to empty the bins. I found his attitudd quite bizarre because I wasn’t asking for anything outrageous, it was simply common sense.
Finally, the place looks tired. They seemed to invest a lot of money in a nice reception which fools your perception of the whole place, but the rooms are disapointing and (in the light of the aforementioned this may come across as vindictive, but in all fairness it has to be mentioned) they...
Read moreFantastic location, barely a minute walk from Deptford Bridge DLR station, so very easy to get to central London from the hotel. We stayed in a double room, which was clean and reasonably spacious, with a nice extra-wide double bed (only two pillows though), a kettle, hairdryer, ironing facilities and towels supplied. However, there is no housekeeping, and towels need to be laundered by guests. Not a problem for short stays, The shower was excellent, but the door couldn't be closed properly, resulting in a leak onto the bathroom floor - it also seems that there was a missing shower gel dispenser, as reception was quite surprised when I asked for some soap. We unfortunately couldn't get the TV to work properly, as the remote seemed to be for a different set. Fortunately it had some controls on the back, so it wasn't too much of a loss. Staff were polite and helpful, and we happened to walk into reception when the company party was on, so were offered some drinks and snacks, which was a lovely gesture. Overall a mostly pleasant stay, a bit basic for around £100 a night with no breakfast or room cleaning though. Next time we'll try one of the studio...

Glad to see StayCity Deptford open again, and freshly renovated. The service here is always best in class and super friendly -- feels like you are staying with friends. The beds are comfy, the shower is really good, and having a mini kitchen is nearly essential in these COVID days (if you became ill while traveling, you could still make your own meals and care for yourself).
Important to note - This is NOT a party hotel. There was quite a ruckus in the room next to ours, and I cannot say enough how much I appreciate how quickly and professionally staff addressed the problem -- all we had to do was send a Whatsapp message. Silly thing is, the sound proofing between rooms is excellent. We could hear a little party through the walls, but when they opened the door, wow, it was really loud! So good to know that if you are unlikely to bother neighbors if you take care to be quiet in halls, not slam doors and then, you know, don't break out the techno at 1AM.
But, overall, Stay City is delivering an excellent experience at a great value. Always happy to...
