Worst restaurant experience in my 36 years on earth, a truly ghastly place. I am Cameroonian and take great pride in African food and Cameroonian food in particular. My partner is German and has travelled extensively through out Africa so also loves and cooks African food. We regularly dine at many African restaurants and are familiar with the poor standard of service, but are always willing to endure that as the price for getting a taste of home. However our experience at Maestro was beyond painful and positively tragic.Staff were rude and neither spoke nor understood English, so could hardly understand our order. We waited OVER 2 HOURS for our food, and that's after me having strong words several times with the staff to speed it up. I had to ask at least three times everytime I needed something; three times to get a glass of wine, three time to order a top grenadine, three times to get the bobolo side order for my partner. I found this astonishing as it wasn't actually that busy. I wonder what it would be like on a busy day. I was reminded by a member of staff an hour and a half after placing my order that others have also been waiting for over two hours too as though that was an excuse for their slow service. A football game was on so there was a large loud crowd of lads screaming at the TV which did not make for a quality dining experience. I have no doubt this is probably the worst Cameroonian restaurant in the western hemisphere, and I am so disappointed that it projects such an awful image of my proud country. The place looks shabby, and unclean with bits of boards, hangers, clothes broken wood and chairs lying round. The attitude of the staff is depressing. The food a great, which is what makes me angrier as just a bit more effort with the service would turn the place into a good food spot. I feel so let down, and really plead with the management to do something to turn this round. Breathtakingly...
Read moreI came with my boyfreind and its a complete African expierence. If your african you know what i mean. The card machine was not working so we had to walk through town for cash.. maybe that would of the time to leave. The atmosphere is good until you sit down and the gentleman's club at the back are shouting loudly in what they call a civil conversation. The life music which to be honest should of had practised before they opened turned up and started practising. So as we were trying to have a little bit of conversation the band was testing mics and guitars etc while the gentleman's club was even louder. Oh the menu.. your better asking what do you have. The chicken spring rolls tasted off to me although my other half ate the lot and said they were cold. My other half was happy to see the tv broadcasting football but oh yh the tv was not working after a while. So 30 minutes after ordering food they come and tell us oh yh we have no salad 😂😂😂. Lol. If you get fish get it fried or you will be waiting longer than 40mins for it.. and oh the tomato reslish is just tomatoes and onions so dont think its in a sauce. We agree the main was delicious and I love fish so I was not failed and for that give an extra star. It soon picked up in terms of people. The band is good but its croud was not really interested. To be honest its too loud as your eating so they should work out a suitable set and increase temple when its just drinks being served. Only thing I found odd was the fact that there was only 4 females dining ans then the serving staff but alot of men 😕. Its an african expeirence and my first time trying food from Cameroon but I will be trying their food again maybe not the same venue. Make my review...
Read moreThis place is not worth visiting and the positive reviews are probably fake, dishonest or paid for. I can already predict that this restaurant serves only a Cameroonian community. It can never grow to the standard of an average restaurant with the horror they entertain people with. So, I went there with a friend because I was eager to eat some Cameroonian cuisine. Firstly the name of the place is no where to found :you might get lost trying to find it. When you do find it you are welcomed with a strong unpleasant stench. It is like they don't ventilate nor try to use air fresheners. Then you can't tell the difference between waiters and clients: everyone but the cook (who seemed kind of trained) was drinking and using their phone on service. We couldn't even order a drink in time because the waiter was backing us. Then the menu is poorly organised. The drink section is misplaced and the first page of the menu seems to be on the last page. When the food finally came, I was surprised to be chewing a huge chunk of paper in my vegetable (eru). As if this was not enough, I was constantly driving flies off my food. Tried to pay at the end and the waiter couldn't even understand me, he didn't seem to have been trained for the job. The next thing I saw was a bill of £46. They charge like proper 4.5 star restaurants yet their offer doesn't even deserve a star. I would have been much happier with fish and chips and a drink for £7. Complete waste of my time and money. Sorry but I never thought I'd be giving my first one star to an African restaurant. I am so...
