VFM especially the breakfast.
Bathroom was un-ergonomic. Toilet suite so low would be appropriate for an infant and not for an adult. Shower was not a jet shower as described on website, but a temperamental over head fixed shower which operated at medium / low pressure. .
We do not usually have breakfast in hotels when staying over in London as there are so many good coffee houses. We paid over £300+ for B and B in a prestige deluxe twin room as we had had a positive breakfast experience at the H10 Hotel near Waterloo.
Only to be told at breakfast you could have one item only from the menu . So you could not have say a fruit salad and boiled eggs unless you paid a supplement for the second item of at least £15. Only one selection was £20 and that was the full English which neither of us wanted. Yes you did have Half a slice of sourdough each. Yes you did have 3 mini Danish between 2 . But as I was paying the flex rate ( I thought we might have to cancel because of the rail strike ) we paid over £50 extra each night for breakfast having a bowl of granola.and fruit salad. We were not offered more toast or coffee. In fact the first morning we entered the breakfast room to find the chef arguing with another guest over whether an egg was cooked enough : arguing with a guest!
The bar was set low but our experience exceeded even these lowly standards.
Will not be using this hotel again. Back to corporate s....
Read moreWe've stayed at this hotel three times over the last three years. The room itself has not been a problem, until this trip. The rooftop we pay extra to also enjoy has gone into a state of disrepair. The additional fee to stay in The Room At the Top is excessive and has doubled in 3 years. The lift is broken as of July 14th still, and looking back at other reviews has been this way since April.
Specific issues with the rooftop: Only one lounge chair instead of two from our previous trips. No padding on the lounge chair anymore. One of the deck chairs is broken on the back. The plants are all dying because the water system is broken and the connector is just laying there broken on the ground. The table, chairs, and rooftop in general could use a good cleaning.
On this trip the door handle fell off in my hand as we went to leave the room. We had to exit through the rooftop door.
A broken lift for 3+ months is unacceptable and having a female staff offer to carry my bag is not something I would ever accept.
The Room At the Top is not currently worth the 400+ quid being charged. 200 quid three years ago was great value but 400, with a broken lift to the top, NOPE. Fix the rooftop and return this to a place of...
Read moreWe stayed here three days and two nights. It's got easy access to the tube. Very walk'able to Hyde Park, and the Albert and Victoria museums. It does have tight stairs so not a place to bring your huge luggage (In fact follow Rick Steve's advice and don't bring huge luggage to Europe anywhere), or wheel chair. Breakfast is in a daylight basement but was fabulous. ||Note: the sign outside is "discrete" as in, a clear plastic sign on a white painted wall about 1x1ft square. Instead save the location into your phone so when you are walking down the street you'll find it the first time, and not have to ask the delivery guy down the street, which way to go. Will I ever live that down?||Easy to get here from either airport, just hop the train into town, buy a metro pass, (Oyster card) at the tube station, and pop on over. It's a short walk if you don't walk right by it on the other side of the street.... Did I say, save the address in your phone's contact list before you travel?||Anyway would gladly stay...
