I booked this restaurant for my birthday and I’m so glad I did! When we arrived it was fairly empty with only a few tables. We were seated quickly and given menus. Staff were extremely attentive and I can’t fault them at all. The ambience is so calm and such a good vibe. The background music is to my taste of soft easy listening r&b & soul music. A point in the evening came when we were the only table dining and the manager (I think) was even dancing along and engaging conversation with us but not overbearing. The food didn’t disappoint either. Everything was seasoned and cooked to perfection. We ordered a few dishes that we all shared including or starters: chicken skewers, dim sum, chicken wings, salt & pepper prawns, crispy duck pancakes and our mains including: crispy shredded beef, sweet & sour sesame chicken, beef rendeng, beef in black bean sauce, mango chicken, special fried rice, egg fried rice & a noodle dish. All the meats were tender and melt in the mouth. The crispy shredded beef was soft but had a lovely crunch to it. Our only “complaint” would be that none of the main dishes come with any veg or sides like rice, so it can all add up. Example: main £23 , veg side £9, rice £6.50 . It would’ve been nice for all mains come with at least egg fried rice and you have option to upgrade to noodles or other rice options for a fee. For this reason alone I’d recommend this restaurant as a special occasion restaurant. The portions aren’t overly small but could be slightly bigger at the prices they charge. When looking at their prices keep in mind the area/location and the fact they’re Halal. I was given a cupcake for my birthday and the manager took a few lovely Polaroid photos of us all. Lighting isn’t the best inside as it’s low mood light. Also the bathrooms are down 2 flights of stairs so be wary of this if your mobility is restricted. For a table of 6 our bill including drinks came to £77 pp

We visited Zheng as an extended family of 12 people on a Friday evening. A few people in our group had a Halal requirement and we chose Zheng as it offers a Chinese menu that is fully Halal (no pork served). Certainly a USP in this part of town. It was also positive to see no menu restrictions due to our group size, although we voluntarily called ahead to pre order. We did stick mostly to Chinese but tried out a couple of their Malaysian dishes as well. Between us we ordered the prawn toast, salt & pepper squid, edamame and prawn dumplings to start, followed by the sweet & sour chicken, cereal king prawns, beef rendang, green beans, broccoli, egg fried rice and a few roti canai. The food was generally solid. My favourites included the salt & pepper squid, cereal prawns (huge) and the sweet & sour chicken. I was not a huge fan of the beef rendang but that is generally the case at most places I try it, so perhaps just a personal preference. The staff were quite friendly. We had requested a quicker paced meal and things moved along at a decent clip. The bill for our group of 6 adults and 6 kids came to £464 of which £40 was spent on drinks. A bit pricey but not excessively so. Overall a solid Chinese meal. In this area Huo would be my top pick for Chinese, while there are a few authentic Malaysian options in the Bayswater area, but Zheng is a good option that combines the two cuisines plus it certainly has appeal for Halal eaters as well. I would return.

Zheng follows on from the success of its first branch in Oxford. Nevertheless, as impressive as the feedback has been for the latter, no less from the Godfather of Cantonese Cooking, Ken Hom, who succinctly concluded: "Great food!" or The Times Giles Coren who considered it: "Possibly the best authentic Chinese-Malaysian in the country", we weren't quite as enamoured by its Chelsea counterpart. While the set up of the place was thoroughly refined and elegant, including impeccable service with all food being served on warm plates where applicable, a few of the dishes didn't quite match the restaurant's ostentatious theme. Having said that though, and despite the Chelsea-inspired prices, there were a few outstanding ones that we'd definitely come back for. If you're looking for Malaysian-Chinese fusion food in fancy surroundings, Zheng Chelsea is the place. And be sure to take those few steps down to the basement to marvel over a framed rendition of James Dean's classic, Rebel Without a Cause, if only to see what a whopping £80,000 painting looks like! Menu Recommendation Drinks - Zheng Ice Coffee Starter - Fresh Seaweed Salad; Sesame Prawn Toast Main - Stewed Aubergine; Char Kuey Teow Dessert - Sagu Melaka

I am really disgusted at what they did to us today.

I rang a week ago to check on an order for today as I have severe dairy allergy that needs an epi pen and another family member has gluten intolerance. They told us not to worry as all Malaysian food is dairy free and to call on the day and place the order by phone rather than deliveroo. They will then get it delivered to us. We called them again last night to ensure that all was still ok and was again reassured all is ok. Today they really spoilt our special day as they refused to do the order by deliveroo and asked us to pick it up. We agreed after an argument but then they called us back 15 minutes after taking the order to say that their Gluten menu is wrong as the Satay there has gluten and plus there could be contamination.

We were so disgusted at the ignorance of allergy sufferers when dealing with food that we called it off at the last minute and had to make do with Nandos on what was a special day. At least I know I won't be rushed to hospital with Nando's menu being accurate.

What an awful thing to do! What kind of restaurant is it if their menus are wrong for allergy sufferers. Stay away before one customer dies there! Disgusting and educate your staff on what allergy truly means please or you should be closing your restaurant down before someone dies there. I will be reporting this to the health authority in the area. You do not need any star at all. It...
