Having grown up in the area many years ago, I chose The Greyhound, as Carshalton Ponds is still a ‘village’ retreat away for the surrounding London metropolis. I went for the setting but came away in awe of the pub/hotel and staff! I live in Devon now but my husband had to go to Cheam for open heart surgery. He was supposed to be in and out in a week, however he developed pneumonia and I rushed up to be with him. I didn't know how long I needed to go for and told the staff that, and they graciously accommodated my every need. The rooms are very well thought out, have all the things you require and the beds are superb! I don't sleep well in general, but was so comfortable in their beds, and slept well even considering the worrying circumstances. The water pressure in the showers was unreal!! Thoroughly enjoyed my showers. I had to change rooms throughout my stay, and each room was a joy. I ate in the pub on two nights, my appetite was not great and I had small meals, however, the pub and dining area is very comfortable and I loved the pub comfy chairs, and also felt so comfortable and safe on my own… not something that is true in so many other establishments. On my last morning, on check out ( hubby was being discharged thank goodness) the owner, I believe it was Colum, I am remiss in not taking his name, sorry, went above and beyond and sent me home with two pints of Ordinary and a pint glass for my man as he is such a lover of Youngs! It is the little things that mean so much and I was touched, as was hubby! These are the pubs/hotels that need to be kept alive and loved. Thank you sooo much for taking care of me in a time of such worry. We will be back if/when we return back to...

Then she handed me the menu's and in the same breath asked if i was ready to order . Strange . Then a waiter appeard and wanted me to pay before we got our food . Obviously i said no . Then he suggested they could take my card and lock it away in a safe and give me the keys until im ready to pay . Another no . Ive always eaten then paid . Anyway i ordered a fish cake starter , bit greesy but really nice . The misses orderd a steak medium well done and was told she could only have it rare or not at all . Wow really , no choise in how you get your food. So steaks out she ordered sea bass . No sea bass. Risotto it is then and i'll have a burger . Out of the two dishes. Luckily the risotto was fine because my burger looked nice but was bland . Like a cheap meat iceland special.I wish we had of gone somewhere else. Obviously we paid and left . The crazzy thing was our meals only cost £40 . We left there feeling insulted and conned out of fourty pounds because we ciuld of eaten better at a burger king. Obviously we will never eat...
Read moreSpent £150 for a new years eve meal and drinks. It was slow and the excuse was that they were busy. But busy serving customers who hadn't booked the set meal for new years eve and just eating off the normal menue. We were asked if we wanted our starters as soon as we sat down. 50 mins later they arrived without the offer for another drink within that time... we were just ignored. Not the service I expected when you've pre booked a set meal for a special night. We will not be doing that again. Overall the meal took 3 hours 30 mins from sitting down to finally getting dessert. I did not leave a tip and we decided to go home seeing in the new year on our sofa rather than enjoying the night watching the band and having a few cocktails. What a...
