Booked in to a family room 2x2 adults and 2 kids under 9. The reception was friendly and welcoming, the kids managed to get a story book and night torch which was a really welcomed touch for the first stay at any hotel that both of them can remember. The room was spacious even with the large double, the single and the fold out bed in situ. The corridors and rooms were very clean and quiet (though some guests liked banging doors at 4am!) on the first floor. The TV had freeview which was wall mounted and good quality. The beds were supremely comfortable and the bath/shower facility was quite possibly one of the best I've had when staying in hotels. we asked for more milk for the tea making facility and were well rewarded by the helpful reception staff the lobby also had a vending machine if snacks were required. The hotel has ample parking, including an overflow (not accessible between 9pm and 7am) for those arriving for the night early and leaving after that time. There is a beefeater restaurant nextdoor which has a link corridor to access it, but plenty of local places to dine to or go and shop for room snacks (Morrisons, a Few corner shops, off licences etc) within a 5 minute drive. We even had a very powerful and much welcome fan in the room to keep all fours of us comfortable. Very minor gripes were the blackout curtains not actually reaching the windowsill and letting a bit of light underneath unless tucked onto the windowsill (didn't notice until we were all in bed) and maybe more than two teabags in the room on initially arriving. It would have also been useful, but not essential, to have more than 2 glasses and 2 mugs in the room to match the number of "heads" in the room. As it stood only two of us could have a hot drink and if we all wanted a cold one we had to share a glass or use a mug! Handily located just off the M60 and very reasonably priced. We will certainly attempt to book here again as a family or a couple when visiting locally in the future. Thank you for a...
Read moreIt’s a Premier Inn, so we’re not expecting The Ritz. Yet it’s still well over £100 a night (including an early check-in fee) and this isn’t exactly NYC - so is it worth it? Well, first of all the parking is free, so that’s a bonus. And there’s plenty of it, so you can expect to find a spot. Check-in was very friendly, welcoming and efficient though the reception area is tiny and not very inspiring. In fact the common areas were all a bit grubby; stair treads were dirty for instance, and our corridor smelt of sick. The room itself was perfectly okay - clean (the bathroom immaculate) and comfy. As with any PI there are no extras: no mini-safe, no mini-bar. You get a bed, a fan, (a/c seemed to be permanently switched off) some tea & coffee sachets and that’s about it. Our view was of an enclosed part of the car park. We didn’t use the WiFi but in other PIs we’ve found the free one to be very slow and you’re invited to pay for a better service. Meanwhile the hotel’s food offer is c/o an adjacent “Beefeater” pub that smelt of stale fried food and didn’t in the least bit inspire - we ate breakfast elsewhere. All in all though, you get what you pay for and if you just need a place to park up and sleep, this will do fine. The rates do seem a bit high for the destination, but I guess that’s the UK for...
Read moreOverall, our stay was good, and the main reception staff were helpful. However, our low review rating is due to the poor service we received in the breakfast area from a waiter named Mariesa. It felt like we didn’t exist to her—she ignored us and spoke to us rudely.
We noticed that Mariesa was cheerful and attentive to all other guests in the restaurant, except us. Unfortunately, we were the only brown, Asian-looking individuals there. For instance, she asked the family at the table behind us, “Are there any allergies we need to know about before ordering?” In contrast, she curtly asked us, “You don’t have any allergies, do you? What’s your order?”
The second morning was no better. We were met with the same grumpy, dismissive attitude from Mariesa, while she remained bubbly and joyful with everyone else. My wife had to approach her directly to request hot milk because Mariesa seemed intent on ignoring us. To add to the frustration, we were charged £12.99 for it.
While I would consider staying again because everything else was fine, it’s 2024, and no one should have to feel this way. People like Mariesa need to change their mindset or reconsider working in a customer-facing role. Perhaps a role outside of hospitality would be more...
