It would be more accurate to describe this as "Serviced rooms and suites" than a hotel. It looks like a hotel and is a lovely building with very nicely appointed rooms, well located in the heart of old Abingdon. There are, however, no staff or services and no restaurant or refreshments. Check-in is by touch screen computer, which worked for one room and dished out an entry key / room card for both our rooms. Sadly, only one of the keys worked. You now have to guess what to do next. There is no courtesy help phone or sign telling you who to call. So you have to look back through the emails to find a phone number to call for help. Eventually, got in by checking-in all over again. If you're going to make it staffless, then offer a backup help service or some signs. But then computers always work, don't they.... In the morning, I wanted to use the advertised free WiFi, but nowhere could I find the password. I rang the same number to ask but got an answer phone message saying the office doesn't open till 9am. Not good enough. What if I'd locked myself out of the room at 7am? This theme continues in the room with poor information and some lack of attention to detail. Tea and coffee provided, but just 2 teabags and no sugar or sweeteners at all, in a room for two. The room was very hot (on a coolish day) but no instructions on the aircon, eventually got it sorted, but it was still a sweaty night and only cooled by morning. Likewise no instructions on the shower, they're all different, so trial and error... There is more of the same. This is a lovely venue but spoilt by the above, and I would have to think twice about...
Read moreI suggested to friends from abroad to stay in the hotel as I know the town and the hotel is new and the location perfect. I was staying in the town with friends at the same time.|From the website we knew there was self check in. My friends saw nobody for the 4 nights they stayed, there was no servicing in the rooms and towels were not checked.|Of all the windows in the attractively furnished room only one opened about 6 inches. No way towels could dry!|There was no refreshment supplied, tea making facilities useless because there were just about enough for one drink, but the mugs were not clean!!|All this for £140 a night. This is NOT a hotel but just rented rooms. I was very disappointed as I had high expectations. My friends who are in their 80s had to go across the road to the Market square for breakfast.|They made the best of it but were rather disgruntled.|I am writing this because I think Abingdon NEEDS a hotel where the Abbey House is but it is not user friendly. It might be ok for travellers on business but not for tourists.|Yours...
Read moreGreat location, spotlessly clean, lovely big rooms, all very modern.|Bit odd having no staff on site.|We had room 10 as there's a small single room to the side of main bedroom and our grandson loved staying with us.|The only thing that may stop us returning is unless you are up to date with technology or have a degree in engineering ( sadly, we don't 🤣) you will be unable to use the combi cooker....... got it to turn on but not heat up so the bread we bought for toast fed the local geese! Having said this, there are several places to eat within a couple of minutes walk.|Also, could do with a second tv set in the seating area as we don't like laying in bed to watch tv early evenings-oh and a chair in the bedroom for throwing clothes on....|As other guests have said, windows all painted closed except for 1 which unless you are 7 feet tall, even with the hooked pole, you can't reach ( son in law is 6ft 1 and he had to climb up onto windowsill)|Having said all this, we did still enjoy the stay and if we bought our own toaster may just...
