Nice location. Chap on hotel reception was pleasant and helpful but the bar staff were not particularly helpful or polite. Room was looking tired as was the rest of the interior to the hotel. Stair carpets were coming away, mattress on the bed was majorly uncomfortable with a lumpy springy make up, 1 plug socket loose and moving when pushing a plug in or pulling one out, could do with a good clean, door handle was loose and felt like was going to fall off when turned and room smelt old and musty upon arrival. All of this would have not been mentioned in my review if it wasnt for the room next door that decided to play loud bassline music at a loud volume in the evening and the smell of weed coming from their room and wafting into our room for most of the evening. The smell was pretty strong and the rooms are all ment to me non smoking with detectors in them yet the smell just kept coming. Had to lay a hoody across the bottom of the door to limit the smell. We didnt report this to the management as after the attitude we recieved when trying to order a drink we didnt feel anything would have been done. A disappointing visit to a town that holds fond memories for me and such a shame as the building itself is particularly nice. Wont be...

We booked a stay at The Bell Hotel for last night 16th May and for tonight 17th May.. We were assured when we made the reservation that we would be accommodated in a nice quiet room at the back of the hotel, especially as we are elderly and apparently other rooms wood be noisy. We were directed to Room No 3 at the front. Yes it was extraordinarily noisy! Both from inside the hotel but more so from the busy road outside with motorbikes tearing up and down til early hours of the morning. A bright street light also shone straight into the room and the thin, unlined narrow curtains did nothing to shade the room from the light. The sink in the bathroom was dirty. The room was cold. There were no extra blankets. No breakfast or dinner available even though advertised as hotel and restaurant. No staff on site during the night and only cleaners available in the morning. We stayed one night (last night) and left. £85 per night for small twin dirty room is bad but we have now paid £170 for one night as had paid in advance for 2 nights. The bar staff were friendly...

Room 15…..light not working when you entered room. Both the extractor fan and light over washbasin not working. Hot water so hot in bath it could scald you! Carpet stained, chair was falling apart and it’s upholstery ripped (replaced after complaint made)! Windowsill filthy and grimy (went and purchased some cleaning wipes from a nearby store) to clean it. Black mould on the window pane ( so cleaned it!). Bits of wallpaper border hanging off the wall, so I bought a pritt-stick stick to stick it back onto the wall) after getting the Mamager to sort the tv out, I later called him back as the light fittings over the bed did not have any bulbs in them!! The food was really good though, and the staff were very helpful. My advice ( like a previous reviewer from 9 months ago? AVOID ROOM 15!! When returning to the room at night there was a smell of either cigarette smoke and somtimes, weed being smoked along...

I’m not sure if the staff I met back in 2008 are still here, but I recently found you again thanks to a friend from Leeds, and I just want to say thank you. This was the place where I had my first “real” beer and meal after returning from my last combat deployment as a Marine in Afghanistan. The staff was so pleasant and genuinely surprised to have me there. After hearing how I ended up at their place and what I had gone through just hours before, they graciously gave us our first round and even my lasagna on the house as a thank you for our service. We were Americans, but that didn’t matter—they welcomed us with kindness and open arms I’ll never forget. If you haven’t been, this is a fantastic place to visit. The atmosphere was great, the crowd was awesome, and the staff truly made it special. 10/10 would recommend!

Me and my family stayed at the bell hotel last weekend, and the family room we booked into was fantastic value for money. It was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. To my joy the room wasn’t cluttered and busy like many hotels tend to be, just tastefully decorated with everything we needed for the duration of our stay. The bar/restaurant had a very friendly, warm and welcoming vibe, and the menu had plenty of variety without being overwhelming! The restaurant also offers a fantastic range of smoked meats including beef brisket and succulent pulled pork! I’d highly recommend the bell hotel if you’re looking for value, cleanliness and great hospitality!
