Barleycorn Mildenhall — Restaurant in West Suffolk

An absolute gem! Just off of the Market Square in Mildenhall is the Barleycorn. What looks like an unassuming quaint shop, leads to a beautiful spacious walled courtyard area, with ample gazebo covered seating. Perfect for the changeable British weather (We went on a miserable rainy day and were fully shielded from the elements).

I went with a group of friends for afternoon tea. I had the deluxe hot chocolate and the cream tea. Delicious, rich and creamy, the hot chocolate was probably the best I have ever tasted. The scones were huge, and freshly baked that morning, with individual pots of clotted cream and jam. The menu is varied, with plenty of options of food and drinks to suit everyone. My friends had the full afternoon tea, which was very generous, with sandwiches made with fresh bread, sausage rolls, scones and a selection of cakes. Luckily the Barleycorn provided us with boxes to take the left overs home. Delicious!

All of the staff were attentive, friendly and welcoming. They were holding a wedding reception in the afternoon, and the additional decorations made the courtyard look magical. The Barleycorn is perfect venue for a quick coffee and a cake, meeting up with friends, or small events.

They also have seating inside with addional seating upstairs. The shop sells some delicious looking local produce, with bakery items to take away too.

I had a wonderful experience at the Barleycorn, and will definitely be returning. I only wish I'd discovered it sooner! 100%...

Always receive a service with a smile! When I think of Barlycorn I think of how long it has been here - I have been here 40 + years and Barlycorn is a staple of Mildenhall. The smell of freshly prepared food fills the air as you step inside the shop. Service is always with a smile and they can adapt to your dietary needs or allergies. Lovely little place to lunch or meet friends for a coffee and snack (this includes the Hub or Town location). Also highly recommend the brownies!! absolutely delicious! Hats off to a small business that has survived so many years in a small town! As one of the local long standing members of the community, I wish Barlycorn many more years of business, and hope we never take for granted how much small business rely...

I had such a wonderful🌸 time making a tea cup/spoon with Playdo, playing memory games (which I totally failed at 🤣), eating and drinking and most of all socializing with everyone. Sometimes thru the hustle and bustle of The Book 📕 of Lupi’s Life- it’s wonderful to get together and just giggle 🤣😂🤣.
