An interesting experience. Just so others know, 7 Gables and Abbey Archway Inn are located on the same property. Also, there is another location further down the street. Upon my arrival, (I arrived around 8:30pm after my flight). The host initially started to process my payment as I had booked on line weeks ago, but she hadn't yet completed it. Two other individual guests arrived. She stopped assisting me, ignored me and went to assist them. It was only upon overhearing conversation that I understood that one of the guests had a taxi waiting to take them to the alternate location of lodging. The host finally returned to assisting me. I was under the impression that she was upset with me because I rented a suite for only one person (I only say this because she mentioned it three times while showing me where on the property and in which building my room was located). Upon entering the suite, neither of the two TVs worked. The next morning, I discovered the coffee maker didn't work nor did the jets in the tub. So, I went to the main office for coffee. While there, I met the spouse of the original host. He's not a morning person would be the most polite way to describe my interactions with him. I did share the information of items that were not working. A total of 15 hours after I arrived the night before, I had the cleaning person come to my room to tell me I was checking out and they were sent to clean. I explained I paid for three nights and was staying. About an hour later, the spouse arrived at my door to tell me the same. He stated he was there to "chase me out" as the note from his wife had my room number and that I was scheduled to leave. I again explained I was there for three nights and offered to find my receipt. He excused himself after repeating he was sent to my room and me again repeating I had a receipt. After that, the cleaning person brought me a different coffee maker (much smaller and leaked like crazy but it worked). The TV service was turned on in at least one of the rooms. No one ever came to check the tub jets for the jacuzzi. If you're looking for cleanliness, meh. If you're looking for a quiet place, not happening. If you're looking for a place to sleep and will be out most of the time exploring Fairbanks, and you have a budget you need to stick to, then this place might be the right...
Read moreThis Inn absolutely blew our minds. We arrived in Fairbanks at 2am and ventured into the office (7 Gables) which really spearheaded our truly authentic stay in Alaska. We were shown to our room by one of the 2 owners. We had a full kitchen with a perfect gas stove, full size fridge, microwave and complete coffee system along with silverware, cookware, plates and bowls. We had a full 4 beds for the 4 of us! A trundle, day bed and a roll away along with a California King bed that was by far even more comfortable than our own. Nevermind the corner fireplace. Can we JUST TALK ABOUT THE GORMET HOME-COOKED BREAKFASTS EACH MORNING?! Every morning from 7am-9:30am there is a full home cooked gourmet breakfast with recipes I'm frankly dying to have. We had everything from sausage and biscuits, make your own waffles, kishe, a range of coffee cakes, the most delicious tomato pie....there was something different every single morning, NOTHING you could get in a chain hotel. Never mind coffee, tea, cereal, bagels, bread, yogurt....you just cannot start a day visiting Alaska without this sort of breakfast which is INCLUDED! Well over $100 per morning in food. There's laundry on premise (get your quarters!) with detergent. We realized how spoiled we were when we ventured to Anchorage for a day and stayed a night in a different hotel for about the same price....0 comparison. It's super accessible to the freeways, a hop, skip and jump from the airport....you simply could not stay in a better place in Fairbanks. Even the grounds are endearing- gorgeous plants, flowers, a super friendly staff, plenty of outdoor seating and potential to grill out if you want to....don't stay anywhere else other than here if you visit Fairbanks. We LOVED our stay, stayed a full 7 days. Not sure what happened with the other negative reviews. During breakfast we got to meet other visitors to Alaska....truly enhanced our 8 day...
Read moreTravelled across Asia, south and North America, Europe and parts of Africa- can’t recall a “terrible”vote. In context of North America this place is. Clear that this has become a choice for next-to last resort longer term accommodation, as with our neighbours the residents of room 207 persistent loud music, had to knock on door at 1 am. The stench of cannabis wafted through from this unit- at all hours necessitated us opening our windows and ac on full blast. Midnight sun seems to imply that it’s ok for loud “parties” on the lawn at midnight. Stayed in “studio appt” - obvious older place and in need of a deep clean- surface clean. Housekeeping undisciplined and chaotic. “Kate” without knocking or announcing entered our room mid afternoon seeing us there just said “sorry” and walked out- just about to call 911 for a burglar. Had to chase a change of towels, to be told just to throw the used towels on the lawn.!!!! The booking dot com instruction said breakfast from 0700-0900- factored this in for a 0730 pick up- got in just before 0700 to be rudely told ( I think it was one of the managers “lietche” so?) that it doesn’t matter what the booking said, no breakfast until after we’d left, seems ok to follow the booking site rules when it favours the provider- there was food available but the lady was intransigent . |Just hope I’m not drug tested when I return ‘cause the neighbours in 207 cannabis will have stuck. Unprofessional, tired, unwelcoming, in an otherwise amazing Fairbanks. So pay the extra and stay...
