The staff were both friendly and helpful. It is VERY dog friendly and even had a dog show in the convention center and expo rooms while we were there. The property is huge, main building with two off shoot buildings with rooms and some round villas down the hill. It appeared that almost all rooms had a balcony. The main building is beautiful with a mountain lodge feeling with a nice bar, restaurant, big fireplace and lobby sitting area. Lots of walking trails. The outside rear decks and stairs are old and need repairs. Convenient location, short drive to pretty much everywhere we wanted to go. The room we stayed in was clean, but out dated. It was definitely showing years of wear and tear. Some minor things were not working well. As others noted in other reviews, the bed was extremely firm. For what we paid we were OK with the room but had we paid full rate we would not have been happy. The main complaint we had is more with the other people staying at the hotel while we were there. Pretty much every night the hall to the east buildings smelled like someone was smoking pot right there and occasionally we smelled it in our room even though there were no smoking signs everywhere. They are a FEMA location so lots of work trucks and workers in and out assisting with the area cleanup. However, some did not care and tracked mud from work boots up and down the hall and elevators that you had to consistently avoid. It seemed like as soon as the staff cleaned it, it would be back. There are also some individuals that are staying there long term making it have a bit of a low income apartment feel instead of a resort. Given the situation in the area, we are assuming the resort is helping local families get back on their feet so this may be a temporary situation that truly is helping out the community.

As an IHG platinum member I have stayed at various IHG properties nationwide, sometime a holiday inn express can go a long way when you travel: clean room, fresh bed, updated room. This property however is advertised as a resort with very modern facilities where you could expect to spend a wonderful family long weekend. Lobby is nice as you go through the hallways to your room, the reality does not follow the expectations… Dated old rugs, muggy smell, enter the room: dated dirty kind of damp carpets, super loud dated AC that keeps turning off and on, bugs all over the room, and a puny shower with water spraying in all sides flowing the floor. Room was not cleaned the next day. Upon check in I confirmed I could do a late check out. Last night I wanted to confirm if we can do late check out the next day and after I asked 3 more times they checked the account and confirmed that no, I don’t have the late check out. It had to be confirmed by cleaning the morning of! Anyhow, never coming back! Better stay on the side of the freeway at a holiday inn compared to this “resort” or may be a Marriott. Below is the real photo of the pool, which was icy cold. Not to mention they had no kids or family evening activities (even though on the website it said otherwise)

While traveling late and last minute into Asheville with another mom into town for camp drop off with young children, we had a difficult time finding availability. The Crowne Plaza had two rooms available. When we finally got to the hotel after midnight, the check in desk clerk said we would be staying in the Mountain Villas. Sounded nice. He could not explain where they were located and how to get there. DO NOT allow the staff to let you stay there. It is secluded and dark behind the hotel, no security, no secure locks and questionable guests who made us feel unsafe. I cannot fathom why this property would think it would be okay to send young children and mothers to sleep in those conditions. Not only were the buildings near rotting, the cleanliness and smell was horrendous. We demanded a refund and thankfully found another hotel around 2:00 in the morning. Still waiting on refund. BEWARE OF THE MOUNTAIN VILLAS and think again if they try to send you down where the maintenance crew stays for free. This hotel is part of the IHG brand and is misrepresenting the quantity and standard of their property.

Unable to recommend this location, stay away! Old property high prices with no benefits.

Booked a king room high floor with balcony room at $179

My travel companion is a 9lb Chiwawa, when handed the room key noticed the room was on first floor asked the front desk why I was receiving a ground floor room when booked a high level king balcony,.you are now in a dog friendly king room.. Asked if there was carpet in the room and they couldn’t believe I asked such a question, yes, asked if the room fee was adjusted to the downgraded room, she said king rooms are $179 with a pet on first floor., with an incidental fee added for “room damage”, which doesn’t get credited back for 10 days after the stay. Was handed a plastic bag with broken dog treats, and no offer to assist with bags or even a trolley.

Room received was room 102, way across the front lobby through the convention center, with no signage in hallway to the room area and had to ask where the room area was to a uniformed maintenance person as there was three option and the door was unmarked and that hallway was not air conditioned.

My very bad for not walking back to the front desk to move rooms.

Room floor was sticky, air conditioner had mold unable to sleep! Seriously considered sleeping in my car.

Management left a message on room phone to show me another room, and was exhausted by the insane drive into Asheville on 55 mph roads where even trucks were driving 70+ mph. And said no.

Around 8pm asked front desk where I could obtain a hot cup of tea, was told to use the mini keurig machine in the room with a paper cup with no offer of bottled water.

Took dog for a walk from the balcony, and

the grass off patio was NOT cut so my mini Chiwawa had to walk through tall grass to get to the paved path.

We have stayed at over 50 properties in the last five years and was not restricted to first level because dog was traveling. this location as it said Dog friendly and photo of a very large pool, thinking to do a few laps. The pool was also disappointing as it’s just a regular small pool, and didn’t utilize because it was entirely full of families.

Overlook restaurant view is of a valley.

Breakfast is $19, and passed as I only wanted a yogurt and fruit.

So sad to have driven to Asheville first time to be completely disappointed, no view, no hot tea, and my suitcase full of lovely clothes had to be rewarded to get mold smell off.

Upon checking out I mentioned room 102 was not a $179 room and was again reminded all king rooms are $179.! Hopeless really!

Please don’t...

BLUF - Absolutely fantastic hotel, great location, wonderful staff, rooms are a bit outdated but perfectly fine.

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza recently (Jul 2025), and had a wonderful experience. In no particular order:

Location is great. About a mile outside of Asheville's downtown, you could walk it if you wanted to but since it was bloody hot and parking is plentiful, we drove in.

Amenities are fantastic. Outdoor pool on-site right out back of the hotel, two others down at the raquetball club nearby. Tons of walking trails around the golf course and through the adventure camp. Fitness room had treadmills, free weights, and a cable machine. Cold water in the lobby, cozy fireplace, restaurant on site.

The breakfast buffet is one of the best I've ever seen. We maintain a fairly healthy diet, so I'm always a little leery of hotel buffets...not this one. Cottage cheese, tons of fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, sugar free syrups, sausages, sausage/egg muffins, quiche....all of that alongside cereal, muffins, biscuits, gravy. In addition, the custom omelets and waffles that are included are amazing. I got an omelets with onions, peppers, spinach, and mushrooms every day.

Coffee bar right outside the restaurant, from about 6a until 11a. chef's kiss

Staff are wonderful. I interacted with at least 5 of them for varying things. All were incredibly nice, eager to get us whatever we needed (including a sewing kit when the strap on my bag broke), fast, reliable, and polite. Special shout out to our breakfast waitress Olivia who was absolutely a ray of sunshine in the mornings.

The room we had (double queen, ground floor) looked like an average hotel room...nothing special, but clean and everything worked. We watched some of the housekeeping staff cleaning a room near ours and my fastidious wife even approved of the job they did. We also were amazed by the pillows...we have a call in to their manager to request what type of pillows they use, they were that comfortable. The ability to walk right outside to let our dog out was great.

I like to run/lift on vacations, but I also get up before the sun rises. I avoided the trails around the golf course as we saw a black bear wandering through our first night there, but running around the building/parking lot was about a 0.5 mile loop and well lit...

My tennis team and I have stayed here for 3 years booking 7-8 rooms for USTA NC State Championships. This year I booked 7 rooms for our team through group sales for 4 nights and confirmed that we could cancel last night (Sunday) if we did not make it to finals of the tournament. We had done this for two years prior and I was told it would not be a problem. I never would have booked the 4th night without this assurance. We could have simply added the night or stayed elsewhere. All 7 of us stayed 3 nights, and we made it to semifinals on the 4th day but not finals. When we all tried to cancel the 4th night the front desk would not allow it, even after I advised that group sales rep had confirmed we could and that we had done it 2 years running. Front desk told me to contact group sales and/or asst. GM. I went to both, and the group sales rep was very apologetic but said she did not handle billing and forwarded to asst. GM, Lori. Lori was unresponsive until I again contacted the group sales rep who again apologized and advised me she would escalate the matter to the GM. When Lori finally got back to me, she advised that we had all signed a paper saying we would give 24 hours notice of cancellation of last night. I explained that we had all signed this paper for last 2 years too but CP had allowed us to check out anyway because of the nature of the tournament. Additionally, CP's own representative had assured me the procedure would be the same this year. I even asked Lori to refund my 6 teammates last night and I would pay for mine as I felt so bad that they were all being charged for the extra night we did not use. She would not refund the night and only gave us $46 back but I advised this was unacceptable. We checked out well before the 11am checkout time. For three years we have reserved 7-8 rooms at CP, ate in their restaurant and supported their business and they refused to abide by what their own representative told me. We will not be staying there again and feel that this was very poorly handled. I am a small business owner and would never contradict my own employee/representative's assurance to a customer. We have also contacted USTA to let them know they should look for a new host hotel in future for...
