Maybe worth 3 stars but I couldn't do it. So as far as front desk staff and everyone we encountered they were great. Asheville can sometimes employ some snobby type folks. Not the case here. Everyone was polite and helpful. The parking lot here is just obnoxious. There isn't actually a parking lot "on site". You have to go around the hotel's side and cross a street to get to the parking lot. It's obvious that there wasn't room here for a hotel and parking lot so they shoe horned in the hotel and bought another lot for parking. It's about a 30-100 yard walk to your car. Not to mention the fact that the parking lot is behind some shady looking shopping center. My wife was far from comfortable walking to the car by herself. So after the long walk to and back from the car the only way to get back into the hotel is the front entrance?! That's annoying. But like I said that shopping center looks shady so I can only assume they are trying to make the place safe. None the less. It's awfully annoying to walk 100+ yards, past 3 doors and have to walk all the way around to the front of the hotel. Just a small thing that adds up after about 2 trips to the car. I couldn't imagine if we had our kids with us or a baby. Now onto the room. This was the worst stay I've had in a long time. At first glance the room was clean. And really it was. This is a new hotel so it hasn't had time to have the normal run down carpet, shower etc you see in some older hotels. So it was clean and well lit. Why was this the worst stay? First off the bed was so uncomfortable. We had a king room. The bed was mediocre at best. The sheets kept coming off the corner in the middle of the night (2 night stay and a problem on both nights). The mattress was super soft to the point where it didn't feel like we were being supported. It sagged. They don't have the typical AC and heat unit under the window which at first seemed nice. They've moved it inside behind an access panel. Once you cut the lights off and the TV off all we could hear was the unit working. Now, we have two small children, that didn't travel with us, and are used to "white noise". This was not a white noise. More like a blood curdling red noise. So needless to say the first night we didn't sleep well at all and by the second we were exhausted and were still not able to rest. They layout of the room was fine. There was a sitting area with a sofa I assume folded out. Two televisions, refrigerator, coffee maker and a clean, well lit bathroom. I can't ever do it again. The only way I would stay here again is if someone else paid for it. Even then I'd try to get them to...
Read moreWe've stayed here before and it's fine. Nothing special but fine. My only complaint previously was that the complementary hot water for tea in the lobby had some cloudy gross stuff floating in it, which I realized after getting it a few times but maybe it was a mineral deposit or something (and I definitely stopped drinking it because it was super icky). ||||This time, unfortunately, our experience has been pretty bad. The h/vac is noisy. The soundproofing is really inadequate between floors: last night there was running and stomping until about 10pm, and today, there has been running and stomping for the past 30 minutes. We're recovering from colds and wanted to nap so I called the front desk to ask them to politely ask the people upstairs to take it easy, but our phone was totally dead. So I went downstairs and asked and was told that the upstairs guest just checked in so just deal with it and wait it out. Absolutely no concern for the phone not working, which I stated twice. They just handed me a card and said we can call the desk by dialing from our mobiles. Fine, but hotel rooms should have working phones. Also we have had to get key card remade twice after finding they don't work. ||||It smells kind of dank throughout our room. The elevator makes a horrible sound and shudder, which if I recall it also did a year ago too...which is concerning. The door from the parking lot stairwell is an exit but not a card-entry seemingly because the card reader is physically missing (I recall this not being an issue last time we stayed because I remember using that door as an entrance, but maybe I am mistaken). The overall sketchiness of the shopping center has increased since our last visit, so I'd love to be able to use the side door. ||||||Housekeeping on the day we had it was very nice and efficient and everything was replaced. The gym is adequate. We didn't use the breakfast but the coffee was fine. ||||||In any case, we do not plan to stay here again when we return to visit family. I'd rather pay $50 more a night for something that feels a little more functional in a less...
Read moreI feel I have to write this negative review because people need to be aware. I'll start out by saying that the manager did take care of the situation upon our unscheduled departure. We were traveling with our truck and small utility trailer on our way back to FL from vacation in OBX. We arrive at hotel to find out that the parking lot is disconnected and has several signs stating "park at your own risk". I've never in my life stayed at a hotel with this kind of sign. Red flags!!!!!!! Against our better judgement we stayed. We took our 2 little dogs up to the room to go get food. When we get back the one side of hotel was full with only one spot that we could've fit into but it's way in the back with very little lighting. We decide to park in the shopping center parking lot which is also the hotels property according to hotel staff. I get up early and go check on my vehicle and get coffee and all was well. We then get our breakfast (very good), get showers and pack up doggies to head out for a day of adventure. We drive to other lot to drop off trailer and see a truck with U-Haul trailer had been vandalized! They destroyed the interior of this man's truck and stole all of his hunting equipment. The U-Haul had the locks drilled out so they couldn't even open it to see it's damage. This is the spot we were gonna park the night before. We wouldn't have known any of this had these people not come over to us to tell us what happened to them. They were waiting on the police. I feel physically ill writing this, to think that that was supposed to be us!!!!! This was 10:30 am, I went straight to the front desk where the manager just happened to be and explained this whole nightmare PLUS we had to change rooms 3 times because of no hot water.... I told her we have to check out now, we cannot stay another night. She refunded our previous night and checked us out no problem. Lessons learned.... Never ever stay at hotel with disconnected parking and NEVER park with signs that say "park at your...
