The Lloyd Hotel Astoria Bayfront, part of the Ascend Hotel Collection, is a fantastic choice for a relaxing stay in Astoria, Oregon. Nestled along the Columbia River, the hotel combines comfort and charm with a touch of coastal elegance. The location is ideal—quiet and scenic—while still being close to downtown attractions and local landmarks like the Astoria Column. The rooms are spacious, clean, and thoughtfully designed, with comfortable beds and modern amenities like a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. Many rooms offer stunning views of the river, making your stay even more special. The staff is friendly and attentive, always eager to ensure your visit is pleasant and seamless. The hotel also features a well-maintained indoor pool and hot tub, which are perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. The complimentary breakfast is a highlight, offering a variety of hot and cold options to start your day right. Plus, the lobby is warm and inviting, with cozy seating areas that make you feel right at home. Overall, the Lloyd Hotel Astoria Bayfront delivers an exceptional stay, blending comfort, convenience, and coastal charm. Whether you’re visiting for business, a romantic getaway, or a family trip, this hotel is a wonderful choice!

We recently stayed here while doing a vacation to forage for mushrroms. The staff is amazing here! I was always greeted by everyone be it front desk, house keeping, or the breakfast staff. They went above and beyond. The pool, hot tub, and sauna are open 24hrs which is wonderful for me as I am night owl (10 years on a graveyard shift will do that to you). Their breakfast was very good with many options including gluten free and replenished frequently. They had coffee, juice, tea and hot chocolate 24hrs as well fresh fruit. When I asked about breakfast hours I was given a time but the breakfast staff let me know that I was more than welcome to come in and eat with the staff after breakfast was over if that worked better for me. I kindly declined but that was such a nice offer. The room was very clean. There was some black mold on the window sill, but from my many stays in different hotels all along the Oregon and Washington coast this is to be expected. I will definitely stay here again! The Comfort Inn & Suites is a whole other storey. I would avoid that place at all costs.

I stayed at the Lloyd Hotel in early August 2023. Access to the hotel is unusually confusing -- drive through a poorly marked alley between and behind the industrial buildings of a Uhaul dealer and an RV/Boat storage. Expect to drive past the entrance once. But after you find it, the hotel, formerly a Best Western, is very nice, with a pleasant and helpful staff. Comfortable, well-appointed rooms. Elevator, unfortunately, is not in the lobby but halfway down the building. The hotel is adjacent to the Astoria Riverwalk, near its western terminus where it seems to peter out. I never saw anybody walking on it, except myself when I walked to the only nearby restaurant I could find that was open after 7pm.

Let me preface this by saying that we are generally very easy guests to please. Prompt service, a comfortable bed, and a good shower will usually get you most of the way to a 5-star review. In this case, we were in Oregon for our honeymoon. We stayed literally all over the state. Portland, Astoria, Eugene, Salem, Bend, and Corvallis. Most of the places we stayed were sub-$100/night rooms. We visited Astoria earlier in the week, and we loved it so much we decided to return later in the week, and use some of our wedding cash to splurge on a room with a view. The fact that we paid nearly double what we did anywhere else meant we had only slightly higher expectations.

Unfortunately, this Best Western was by far the worst experience of the whole trip. We spent the day hiking in the Columbia River Gorge before deciding that we wanted to go back to Astoria to finish out our trip. By the 4pm check-in time, we were ready to get into our room to relax and take a shower before our dinner reservations. We arrived right at the 4pm check-in time, and were told that the room wasn't ready yet. It was suggested that we go take a walk or grab dinner, and they would call when it was ready. No time estimate whatsoever. Thinking it couldn't be too long, we sat in some chairs in the lobby, near the hallway leading to the 1st floor rooms. While we were sitting there, I could hear the maids griping loudly about the workload. One said "It's too much. I'm going." They then walked right past us, and out the front door to smoke. Are they REALLY taking a smoke break, while I'm still waiting for my room!? Yes....yes they are.

We then moved to the chairs closer to the check-in desk, so it would remain fresh in their minds that we were still waiting. While we waited, scores of other people came in, got their keys, and went off to their rooms. After 45 minutes, we finally asked how much longer it would be. They finally agreed to move us to a different room that had already been cleaned, which should have been the solution all along.

We finally get into our room, and it's immediately obvious that the maids were just in there, as it smelled like cigarette smoke. Since we splurged for the water view, our immediate instinct was to go to the window to check it out. We saw a crane (machinery, not the bird) and some brown weeds. And maybe, possibly, the slightest sliver of water. It was SO pathetic. Both the old room that was not ready, and the new room, were on the 1st floor. So this isn't a case of impatience getting us moved to a lesser room.

But the absolute clincher that earned them this review was the "express checkout" receipt. We signed and authorized a charge for $153 and change, which already included all taxes and fees. When we got the receipt under our door, they charged almost $180! When we asked to see the original authorization, we were told that they had us sign the wrong form. Oh, no big deal! Just charge us $20 more without telling us! When confronted, they charged it back as "unhappy guest" instead of the more accurate "got caught attempting wire fraud". We are so disappointed that we even spent $153 for this horrible customer service experience, our waterless "water view", a shower that wouldn't get warm, and a bathroom sink that drains so slow, it probably still had our toothpaste spit water in it when the maids came around (presumably after 4pm) the next day. It was an utterly disappointing...

Location of Resort is a little weird to find, but it's a walk from the Columbia River, and you can see the bridge and River from most rooms. The staff are Absolutely Amazing! My mom has certain medical needs, and they were so patient with her and went out of their way to help us. If we asked for anything and they didn't have it behind the desk, they would go get it for us even when I said it was okay, and I didn't want them going out of their way. The complimentary breakfast was always delicious, and the attendees and cook would go out of their way to help with anything you needed and brought the warmth and comfort of someone who felt like you had known them all your life and you could tell the food was made by someone who cared about how it tasted. The front desk staff also made you feel like you've known them all your life. Making everything so comfortable and easy to do. I would give this Resort more stars if I could! We even extended our stay. Everyone here makes sure you have a good personal experience here and will try to help the best they can if you need anything or something isn't right for you. There is a nice sitting area in the front and the breakfast place is nice and open with lots of sitting. It's also open 24 hours for coffee, tea, hot chocolate, which we divulged in late at night when we would return from our excursions. They also had hot soup out front for guests to eat after 5 pm. It was a salmon type soup that they are known for, I would have tried some, but I am allergic to seafood. There are also big mugs and soft robes in the rooms for you to use. I can go on and on how wonderful this Resort/Hotel is. It is definitely a wonderful place to stay if you...
