I rarely post reviews, yet my experience at Golden Dragon was so incredibly terrible tonight, I felt that I had to warn others. I’m literally sitting in my car, so upset, and trying to get the warning out to as many people as possible. I also attend and teach at UGA. If you are a UGA student or other affiliate, please avoid this restaurant at all costs.
This really has nothing to do with the food. It has to do with the level of abuse and ridicule while placing a to-go order unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before.
If this were just an employee, I wouldn’t be writing this review. But since the woman who abused me identified herself as the owner, this review is warranted.
When I attempted to place my to go order of plain fried rice and a side of chicken, both of which I’ve ordered numerous times without incident, the woman taking my order gave me a bizarre look and bluntly said, “no.”
I didn’t quite understand and inquired about what she was saying no too. She told me that I couldn’t get chicken on the side or the rice separate from the chicken.
Before I could even attempt to respond, she began to berate me and launched into a tirade about my being “dumb,” and “needing to know how things work.”
She was yelling at me and as I asked her to please calm down and stop yelling, she became even more irate.
I told her that this was being made into a way bigger deal than what it should be.
She told me she didn’t care and that she was tired of people not following the rules or ignoring the menu.
I decided that she may just be having a bad day and went ahead and ordered the chicken fried rice combo.
Things went really downhill when I asked if there was some sort of sauce I could also buy.
This really set her off. The yelling and name calling went from 0-60 before I even realized what was happening.
She was telling me that it was not her job to tell me what sauces they have and that she wasn’t going to read the menu to me. She also asked me sarcastically if I couldn’t read and proceeded to make fun of illiterate people.
My phone rang in the middle of her tirade. I answered it and my friend, Stephen, listened as the owner abused and berated me for five minutes.
I finally decided that I needed to cancel my order and leave.
When I told her that I was leaving, she responded “good,” and proceeded to bash UGA students and her annoyance with them.
I found all of this to be beyond bizarre and as I wrap up this review, if the owner of a Chinese restaurant believes that UGA students are morons, can’t read, and don’t follow the rules, all for simply asking a question about available spaces, then she doesn’t deserve our business.
Btw-I was the only customer in the entire place at the time...which is usually the prime dinner rush.
I now know why.
Please avoid this business, the Golden Dragon in Athens on Alps Road, at all costs. If for no other reason, please do so to send a message that abuse against one of the UGA family will be taken as an attack...
Read moreI visited Golden Dragon yesterday, 4/27/22, for their lunch buffet. I had been a regular customer of the restaurant for about a year, and it was the best Chinese food I had found in Athens! Yesterday; however, my group went to the buffet and put a little of everything on our plates at once. One of those things just so happened to be a dessert, which we noticed was growing mold. We were obviously grossed out by this and told the server immediately. She went and spoke to the manager who was quick to say we could pay half price; however, we had only taken mere bites of food before noticing the mold. We lost our appetites, so when the server left after telling us we could pay half price, we walked up to the checkout, where I informed him we were the group who found mold and that we had not hardly ate his food. We didn’t feel we should have to pay for food that was growing mold and food we took just a few bites from, so I politely explained our perspective. A man, presumably the owner, then began to raise his voice at me. He was insisting there was no way we didn’t eat our meals because dessert comes last, but I explained we took a little of everything. He rudely told me to be quiet while pointing his finger at me. He proceeded to ask the other members of the group if they ate, to which they replied no. After a few minutes of bantering, he told us to just go. He was extremely rude and condescending and also did not seem to take the mold incident seriously. Please be careful if you choose to eat here! I will never give him my business again because of how condescending and unprofessional he was. Extremely...

The Golden Dragon has been our preferred place for Chinese for years. The food has always been good.
My food was good as usual, but part way into her plate my wife found a hair. Her appetite was lost and she couldn't eat any more.
This can happen at any restaurant, but I assume most businesses would show some concern and maybe apologize for the ruined meal.
The plate with the hair was shown to the waitress who took plate away after holding it up to her face like she couldn't see the hair. She did say that she was sorry.
On paying at the front, no one mentioned the problem or asked if we enjoined our meal. If anything they seemed to have rather sour unfriendly...
