The beauty about pizza is that it comes in many shapes and sizes. Sure, a classic pepperoni or margherita is nice, but when the options are limitless - why wouldn’t you get something unique and different? At Show Me Pizza, they offer both.
Specifically to my visit, I got the 2 most unique pizzas that stuck out to me the most:
50 First Dates: It comes with an onion bechamel base (made up of milk, butter, onion, and flour), topped with mozzarella, chili oil, smoked pork, and roasted pineapple. I know there’s a running gag about pineapple on pizza, but whatever your feelings are on that topic, this pizza will be sure to change your mind for the better. Because it’s roasted, it locks in the flavor, therefore the juice doesn’t run out and make the pizza soggy. It's also fresh which gives it a more refreshing flavor, rather than overly sweet like canned pineapple is, so it contrasts very well with the rich meaty flavor of the pork. All in all, this was an amazing pie! You must try it! ($16)
Cashville Hot Chicken: It comes with a white bbq base (made up of mayo, mustard seed, vinegar, and spices), topped with burrata, crispy spicy chicken, pickle relish, and honey. These fried chicken pieces are a good size, so the flavor is strong. It is a bit spicy tbh, however, the white sauce tones it down a bit to give you a light, creamy contrasts to the hardy spicy flavor of the meat. Very well done here too! Can’t go wrong either. ($18)
Can’t forget dessert! I also tried the: Panna Cotta: this is an Italian dessert topped with strawberry sauce and made of sweetened cream and thickened with corn starch rather than gelatin - therefore making this vegetarian friendly! This is a great, sweet way to end off a heavy meal. ($6)
All in all, this was an amazing spot to try out. The pizzas were delicious and unique. The service was very kind: the owners truly care about providing you with the best pizza. Additionally, they have a unique service in where you can SEE your pizza being made in real-time through a live stream on Twitch! How cool is that? Anyways, with that said: they get a strong 5/5 in my book. I highly suggest y’all...
Read moreInitial Take: The place is cool, and the staff are amazing, but honestly, I really didn't enjoy my food. For almost $50 with tip, I got a 12" margherita pizza, a cheesy bread, and a bottle of soda from them the other day, and was incredibly disappointed. Idk what it was, but the pizza and bread tasted like burned oil, and both of them were undercooked and still doughy. My tastebuds might still be off, as I recently have been going through chemotherapy, but there is no excuse to serve raw dough to anyone, and the taste of the burned oil was so overpowering that I couldn't enjoy the pizza. Again, maybe my palette was just super sensitive, but I was so excited to have something tasty after all of my health stuff and was just incredibly disappointed with the results. I might give them another chance to earn back the other two stars in the future, especially since the staff and the general vibes of the place are great. But they really need to up their quality control. There isn't an excuse of it being busy at the time either, since I came in right after 11am and was the only customer in the place, since I'm immunocompromised right now and can't be in crowded places.
Edit: The owner was incredibly nice and reached out to me. I was able to try the pizza there again with more time to let my tastebuds recover from the chemo. Idk if it was just my tastebuds last time or if the pizza was really just not made that well, but the second time was much better! These guys have absolutely incredible customer service and go above and beyond to make sure everyone has a good experience. I truly can't give them enough credit in...
Read moreShow Me Pizza definitely lives up to the hype!! People have been telling me about this spot for a while now, and I finally had a chance to go try it.
It’s a super laid back spot with really delicious pizza!! They’re located in the old Torchy’s brick and mortar location on S 1st, and it definitely still taps into that relaxed, “Old Austin” & “Keep Austin Weird” vibe that we all cherish dearly. The interior was cute and artsy, and there was a great live band on the patio. BYOB made it extra easy and affordable to have a chill, good time without breaking the bank. Prices overall were very fair too.
The pizza was delish!! They nailed a proper Napolitano pizza that felt just like being in Italy. We tried several. Everything was fresh and cooked perfectly. I’m picky about red sauce, which is often too acidic or you can tell it has a lot of added sugar. Theirs was perfect. They also didn’t skimp on the cheese, which can be fairly common with this style of pizza. Good balance.
The service was great, and Ben, the owner, was there also. He was really welcoming and super friendly. It’s obvious he puts a lot of love into both the food and the overall experience he’s creating for his patrons. If you’re in the area and craving a good pizza and chill vibe, definitely check...
