My stay at the Days Inn by Wyndham Bar Harbor began with a room at the building's end, which felt a bit unsettling due to a large bush and lack of lighting, so we moved to another room. Unfortunately, it had plenty of issues. The bathroom had odd red spots on the wall that looked unclean, making it uninviting. The roll-up shade was removed from the window and left leaning against the sofa, offering no privacy. The rear-facing window faced a massive 25,000 to 50,000-gallon above-ground oil tank, far from the scenic views we expected. The rug felt grimy, and the sheets had brown spots and someone else's hair, which was off-putting. I'm actually slightly gagging thinking about the bathtub/shower combo's hair catcher, packed with other people's hair-so gross. The pillows were lumpy and unappealing. Two of the dresser's four drawers had no handles and wouldn't open, limiting storage. The bathroom's linoleum floor looked worn, with no towel racks for hand towels by the sink, no lighting in the shower, and zero ventilation, so steam built up and drifted into the second bedroom, setting off the fire alarm. The alarm also beeped randomly, adding frustration. One lamp didn't work, leaving the room dim. There was a hole in the wall behind the entry door where the lock had pushed in, with no door stop, looking sloppy. Dust was thick behind the beds, and there was even a dusty TV remote behind the beds, showing poor cleaning. The second bedroom had no convenient outlets near the night tables for phone charging, forcing us to stretch cords across the room. A carbon monoxide detector in the second bedroom flashed all night, which was distracting, even if it was working. The second-floor linen closet, storing sheets and towels, was exposed to the outside under a roof, with beat-up wooden doors held shut by padlocks and a Keep Closed sign, though they were often open anyway. The online pictures looked far better than this tired room. Breakfast was lackluster, like it came from the discount aisle at BJ's. Parking was a hassle-the lot filled up every night, and staff suggested parking at a sister property a few hundred feet away, but that was full too, leaving us stuck. The staff was responsive, quickly addressing one or two issues like the fire alarm, but the property itself needs work. I could maybe overlook these problems if the rate was 50 to 75 dollars a night, but averaging 301 dollars per night with taxes and fees felt like a rip-off. For what I paid, I expected better. I wouldn't recommend this hotel until they address...
Read moreThis Days Inn is absolutely terrible. We have stayed at several different hotels in Bar Harbor, but this was was, by far, the absolute worst experience we've had to date. First of all, this hotel is very run down and dated. It probably hasn't been updated since the 90s. The room was very small, cramped, and had some sort of a musty/mildew-type odor, which triggered my allergies into overdrive. The bathroom was tiny and filthy. There was hair in the shower as well as the sink, which was a clear indicator that it had not been cleaned prior to our arrival (at least not thoroughly). There was evidence of previous water damage in the ceiling. The bed was horribly uncomfortable with a very lumpy mattress. We only had four very small pillows between the two of us that were almost paper thin. Additionally, this is NOT a quiet hotel. It sits right on a busy/main road and we kept being woken up by the sounds of traffic all night. We could even hear the people in the rooms next to us on both sides. We heard doors opening and closing all night. We were supposed to stay for two nights (Saturday & Sunday) for a weekend getaway, but it was so bad that we only stayed Saturday night and promptly left on Sunday morning to go stay somewhere else for our second night. We went to the front desk before we left to speak to somebody about our experience, but nobody was there, and we waited for a good 20-25 minutes before we finally got sick of waiting and left. I should also mention that the parking situation at this hotel is a complete disaster. I drive a rather large SUV (Ford Explorer) and when we went to leave, there wasn't even enough room for me to back out of my space without hitting the car that was parked directly behind me. I have been trying since yesterday to call to file a complaint about our stay and request a refund, but nobody is answering the phone! It hangs up after so many rings. Not sure what's up with that, but it's definitely strange. I finally had to call the 800 number for Wyndham to file a complaint and request a refund, to which I was told I will hear back within a week and that it will be at the hotel's discretion as to whether or not we are refunded. Unacceptable! If you are looking for lodging in the Bar Harbor area, I highly recommend avoiding this hotel at all costs! We will definitely not be...
Read moreHad to request refund as soon as we went into the room. Greeted by 14 large spiders inside and they were not there to clean because it was obvious the room had not been cleaned in some time. Left over food in the fridge may have been theirs. Could have also belonged to one of the several bugs found in the bed. They probably let themselves in due to the door not locking properly or the large gaps in the door frame. Read a 5 star review on here about recent renovations but they must have skipped our room. Stains all over the carpet, nightstand top coat was worn out from 30 years of what looked to be wiped down blood splatter from the presumed (alleged) murders that may have taken place. Bed headboard looked like victims had been clawing at it in anguish trying to escape. If they ran for the door, they probably wouldn’t be able to find the doorknob which was about 2 feet above the floor at your knees. But hey, they added some usb ports in the nightstand so that’s a positive? The killer probably pondered their crimes in the weird corner chair area facing the wall with the single overhead light that served no purpose. My family was too scared to stay a night because they felt it would be their last. We saw other guests also seeing their lives flash before their eyes when checking into rooms near ours and one person was getting refunded right before I turned my key cards back in. Carpeted deck outside the room felt like it would give way at any moment with the slightest wrong movement. Location is very close to Acadia National Park but advertising an ocean view room when across the street from a building (ocean behind that) is a little disingenuous. The one serious positive was the warm receptionist that checked us in and provided the refund a few minutes later. She probably had heard these complaints several times, mostly likely victims screams every night, and seemed unphased by it. Regret not taking pictures other than one of the several bugs that crawled on us when sitting in bed on the phone getting a refund. At a new hotel now and will need several showers to...
