The proprietor is delightful and helpful with tips and suggestions. The mansion itself is unbelievable. It's like stepping back in time except that you have running water and electricity. It remains true to the 1880's theme throughout. It is beautiful. We stayed in the Waldron Bates suite of rooms because in addition to the bed, there was a pullout sofa bed for my adult son. He said it was very comfortable. My bed was amazingly comfortable! It felt like an old spring bed. And the linens on both beds were so soft. The rooms were delightful. The air conditioning was terrific on hot days. There were several sitting areas...all comfortable. The WiFi signal was strong. The bathroom was perfect...a shower, a claw foot tub, hot water, oversized bath towels. Again, a beautiful room, and spacious. I found it very good for getting dressed and fixing my hair and makeup. The suite was up on the third floor under the eaves. The ceilings and dormers were fascinating. The steps were quite manageable to get there. The entire atmosphere of Cleftstone Manor was warm and magical. In the mornings, breakfast was served in the dining room. It was an amazing affair. You made your selection the day before. The staff was so attentive. You were immediately offered your choice of juices and tea or coffee. For the tea, they would bring you a teapot of hot water, then open a wooden box shaped like a briefcase, with an array of various teas available for you to choose from. After you received your beverages, they would bring you your fruit selection for the day (candied pears, pureed strawberries with whipped cream, a fruit medley, each day it was something different. And delicious. And almost too pretty to eat). Then came your bread. Again, every day it was different... blue berry muffin, pound cake with a side of jam, banana bread...each was delicious. Then they would bring your main course..blue berry pancakes, pecan waffles, creme brulee french toast, bacon and eggs, eggs Benedict, quiche. Each was beautiful to look at and so good! Each morning was like dining at a fine expensive restaurant! Cleftstone Manor was such a wonderful stay! We were there for 6 days and it never got old or boring. Each room had a tote with a list taped to the lid. You would put anything you didn't want in the tote (trash, dirty linens), and note on the list anything you needed (clean linens, toilet paper, soap, bath salts) and set it outside your room by 11am. We had an electric fireplace in our rooms, some rooms have real fireplaces, and on cooler days, the living room downstairs would have a fire burning. Our stay here was fantastic! It was also conveniently located within an easy one mile walk of town, with a lovely wide smooth sidewalk.

I booked this place at the last minute a few hours before my stay. The pricing was fair for what I got, hence the 5 star review. I also want to commend the service. I talked to Stefan to book and he was very helpful. The staff at the inn was professional and kind. It’s not easy to have high-quality service consistency so these guys are definitely doing something right from that standpoint. I also want to give an accurate portrayal of what to expect. This property is basically a motel that serves breakfast. The room I stayed in was upstairs. I had to walk up two flights of stairs, including one very narrow staircase. The shower was 3’ x 3’ which is tiny. The room is cooled by a window AC that is fairly noisy. I chose to shut it off so I could sleep in peace, but that meant opening the window for fresh air and listening to the cars drive-by. The property is located on a main thoroughfare that has consistent traffic till midnight at least. The breakfast look good, but after trying a few bites, I opted not to eat any more of it and drove into town to an amazing açai bowl place.

This place lived up to expectation! We stayed here for 4 nights late August in "room" 18. Room in quotations as number 18 is actually 4 separate rooms within it (sleeping area with a lounge space, a seating area, an entry area, and the bathroom). If there was any change I would make, it would be to add a small bench in the entry area of room 18. We had so much room it was fantastic. The food was a highlight as well. During the day, they had two different treats out as well as coffee. For breakfast, you had a choice of sweet or savory, which was served with a breakfast appetizer (small baked goods) and fruit. Everything we had was delicious! The staff were also very friendly. The location was great as it is both close to town and close to the entrance of Acadia. One thing to note is the pool is located at the property up the road. Overall a fantastic stay.

It’s hard to write a brief review of such a wonderful place. The Cleftstone Inn is not just a stay, but a little slice of home and a warm, welcoming family. It is everything you want in a memorable stay—exceptionally clean, kind and attentive staff, historic charm and character, wonderful quiet location, delicious breakfast, and gorgeously styled rooms. It’s a couple minutes away from the heart of Bar Harbor, which helps make it feel quiet and separated from the tourism, but only a 2 minute drive to the center of town (or 15 minute walk). The Inn Keeper, Steffen, is a kind man who takes great pride in providing for his guests. He knew each of us by name, checked on us every day, and even gave us a very friendly goodbye phone call after we checked out. Steffen actually renovated the property and did so well at it that they hired him to run the place. Meanwhile, the other staff members are just as kind and helpful, all offering a unique personality to the stay. They made it feel like home for myself, my wife, and our 8-month-old daughter. Everything about the Inn is in order, and I cannot recommend the it enough. Simply put, you will not regret a stay at this charming and memorable place. You will love...
