We selected this inn because we thought it looked charming in the pictures and we’ve always enjoyed staying at inns because it is usually a more personal experience. We couldn’t have been more wrong! It was a remote check in using a code to unlock the door. The VERY SMALL front room was uninviting and very lackluster. The bed was the worst part. We stayed in the room pictured in the first photo. The mattress was really really old and it creaked every time one of us moved. Plus, the headboard banged against the wall. Needless to say, we didn’t get a lot of sleep the two nights we spent there. After the first night we put a towel between the wall and headboard, which seemed to give the bed more stability, but not much. The shower was one of the smallest I’ve ever seen and with the shower curtain drawn you couldn’t see a thing. I ended up taking a bath. The snacks they said they provided were a couple cheap snack bars, which other guests obviously took, because they disappeared. They had little notes attached to everything. Don’t do this, don’t take that. Very bossy. In addition it was about 7 miles out of town so very inconvenient. We never saw the hosts. It’s like instead of hosting, they just phoned it in. It was like a Motel 6, except not as nice. Oh yes, and the price was exorbitant! This was our first time to Bar Harbor. We will know better next time. Oh, and I mentioned we never, ever...
Read moreWe're on a trip of coastal Maine. Stayed 5 days and stayed in different hotels all along the coast. Paid the most for Heathwood Inn - and it was the worst place. Photos advertise a pretty nice looking breakfast (why we chose this place) but in fact they hand you a coupon to drive quite a ways North and eat at "Everyday Joes" - which is exactly as it sounds. Plastic plates, plastic forks, very meh food. No service, all serve yourself. Nothing available on that menu that looks like the photos for breakfast at Heathwood Inn. Rooms are so small my husband and I had to take turns moving around the room (and we are not large people). Called the number on the front door that said "if you need something, call this number" and asked for 2 extra pillows. Called around 6:30pm. Pillows never arrived. I could see the family walking around in their portion of the house but they could not be bothered to see to their guests. Didn't give us a receipt either. Never saw them, no greeting - ghosts for hosts. AND - the toilet paper is worse than at the airport - so rough. If I'm paying budget prices, this is what I expect. For top dollar though, I expect much more....
Read moreThere were positives and negatives with our stay here. We booked Eden and our room was beautiful and the jacuzzi tub…amazing! Everything was clean, there were nice, cozy robes in the room and a cool fireplace/heater on the wall that gave a nice romantic ambiance. Plenty of parking in the back. Because of covid, there is no breakfast served which we were fine with and completely understand. The owners have contactless check-in and check out, so we didn’t see them at all. We didn’t like the fact that they leave the inn lobby door unlocked 24/7. It was our anniversary and they left us a baggy of trail mix and a few hersheys minis which was kind, but then I got an email to book our next anniversary with them and we’d get roses and/or a chocolate tray. Would have been nice to get that our first stay. We were surprised that the owners didn’t reach out at all, text or in person to see if we needed anything. We stayed for 4 nights and nothing. We ran into a guy on property who said hi from a distance, but didn’t say who he was or talk to us about our stay so we weren’t sure if he was an owner. So, overall pros and cons...
