What a joy! Everything about this lobster stand was delightful, but especially the proprietors (whose names I'm sorry to say I didn't catch). Note - they actually close at 5, not 7 as Google lists. We arrived just a few minutes after 5 on our last night in Maine and they were happy to squeeze us in before closing up shop for the night. I had never eaten lobster before, and they helped my sister and I figure out what size to get to share. When we were headed out, they mentioned that we had left behind the best lobster parts (knuckles and legs), which we had no idea about. They were kind enough to give us an excellent lesson in getting the good stuff and answered all our lobstery questions. Just amazingly friendly. 10/10, these are the friendliest lobster experts in town! I am so glad we stopped by.
Our lobsters were caught this morning and super fresh (although I have no point of reference since it was my first lobster) and served with butter. There are about 6 or 7 picnic tables all spread out, it was a...
Read moreIt was 8 o'clock we pulled in just in time to get the last serving. We were happy after a long days drive that we we going to get our lobster. They were out of the size we ordered but were able to upsell us by five dollars a lobster.
We got back to our cabin layed it out nice and It looked delicious.
My tail was delicious and my wife complained hers tasted funny but she said maybe I just don't like lobster. After finishing my tail I decided to have some of hers and well hers was awful terrible maybe rancid but very foul. I then moved onto my claw which was probably over cooked as it was a bit fibrous.
On the upside the corn on the cop was good... $50 for one tail and a cob of corn plus a terrible aftertaste totally not worth it. I won't get into how The crabs were overcooked.
Good thing my wife was able to have a pop tart we brought along with us.
Good news I will be not be back and I hope you...
Read moreI saw a recent review that stated that a change in ownership had been for the worse. Not true. My wife and I've eaten at this lobster pound under both owners and it remains the best. We ate there a few nights ago. The lobster was outstanding, but I was equally impressed by the clam chowder and both of us raved about the corn. The young man who'd served us said that they'd just bought a batch of fresh corn from a local farmer, rather than sourcing it from a much cheaper source. We could taste the difference.
I loved the lobster 3 yrs ago when a woman ran the pound, selling lobster supplied by her husband. I rated her operation with 5 stars too, but I don't recall that she offered clam chowder or Atlantic Brewing blueberry ale.
So give this lobster pound a try. You won't be...
