When you haven't been to a place before, it is hard to know where to stay. I booked this place through Booking.com. 2 hrs before I got here, Booking, com canceled my reservation. I made the reservation in March, and since then my credit card got compromised. Totally slipped my mind to update. But these great folks at High Seas knew that something weird happened. They held my room and I was so grateful. There are many things I enjoy about High Seas. The property is beautiful and the landscaping very well maintained. The place is immaculate and welcoming. It is a family-owned business, and I had the privilege of watching dad and his son mowing the lawns together. There is a lovely pool, and outdoor seating arrangements that are very inviting. There is a play area for kids on one of the lawns. My room was very spacious and comfortable. Excellent bed and linens and towel. And a guest laundry with detergent provided. The machines are coin-operated but I had no trouble getting the coins from the front desk. While there is no coffee in ther room, there is delicious coffee provided in the morning in the vending room; just a few short steps from your room. The best part to me was the response to my faux pas. I went on a moose tour and somehow managed to lose my keys. I came back at 11:30 pm to discover that my pocket was empty. I had to call to get a key made for me, the worst guest ever. But it was no problem. The real value to me was the quiet. Bar Harbor is crazy busy this time of year, and the traffic is abysmal. it was great to stay in a place that was close and yet so peaceful. I...
Β Β Β Read moreI was super impressed with this place. We ended up there by mistake, but were really happy with our decision.
My husband and I love doing road-trips around the USA, but always look for places with at least 3.5 stars and a 9/10 guest rating. I was skeptical with staying there just because it read βMotelβ and being a 1-star place, despite it having an amazing rating everywhere I looked.
We ended up there and to our surprise it looked newer, cleaner and fresher than many of the chain hotels (Comfort Inn, Best Western, some of the more economical chains of Marriott) that we have stayed in paying more per night. The room was perfect: rugs were pretty much new (I hate when hotels have smelly rugs that you can tell are just old and need to be replaced); bathroom was super clean; sheets looked spotless (yes, I did check!); room was spacious and not dated at all... it seems like a place that just opened up. Not even sure why they advertise themselves as 1-star.
I would definitely stay here again if ever in the area. It is definitely underpriced for the area and the great service. Richard at front desk was very helpful... overall...
Β Β Β Read moreI'd never been to Bar Harbor before and needed to find a place to stay so that we could enjoy the beautiful area and drop off my son to Camp Jordan in Ellsworth. Many of the local places were either booked or crazy expensive so we took a chance with the High Seas Motel. It exceeded my expectations---Richard---the check-in staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable for my family of 4. While we didn't use the pool this time it looked inviting and well maintained. It was a perfect location, being only a short drive to to downtown shopping, restaurants, attractions, Cadillac mountain as well as the camp drop off on the way home. There is a fun ice cream/BBQ next door and an awesome mini golf place across the street. (Just be careful the street is busy and cars drive fast). When we returned home I sadly realized I had left my new birkenstock sandals in the room and sent an e-mail----Richard was happy to put them in the mail and we were reunited a week later! I was so thankful he went above and beyond. I would highly recommend this hotel as it met our needs and didn't...
