Udder Heaven Ice Cream Retreat — Restaurant in Bar Harbor

We are visiting and really enjoyed this place when we came 2 years ago so we came back. We have 8 people in our family and spent $55 on ice cream. When we received it, my one daughter’s cone was a total mess, mine had about 10 sprinkles on top when I ordered sprinkles on it, my other daughter’s cone was also a huge mess with barely any sprinkles. I asked for them to add more sprinkles to mine, and it turned out fine but when my daughter asked, the girl rolled her eyes at her and she turned around hastily to do it. My daughter has worked at a popular well run homemade ice cream store at the jersey shore and knows ice cream and customer service and has been there for 5 years through college and said if she ever rolled her eyes at a customer she would have been fired. She was upset and she had a mess of a cone that wasn’t scooped properly, that we needed to get cups for after, as did two of my other family members and we were left a bit upset feeling after how we were treated. Honestly it all would have been fine and we would have looked past the scooping issues if the one girl hadn’t rolled her eyes about the sprinkles that weren’t done properly and we had paid for.

This place in my opinion has the best ice cream in the Trenton/Bar Harbor area. We went there twice so far and plan to go again today for our last visit before heading home in the morning. My only criticism is the first time we visited they let me sample one other flavor because I was having trouble deciding as they have so many flavors to choose from. I ended up getting the Miane Blueberry that time but the flavor I sampled (Vanilla Cherry), was the one I came back for the next day. On the second day when I asked to sample another flavor, the young girl at the window said it was against their policy to give samples. I understand that they would need to limit samples to one or two per customer to keep it from getting out of hand but allowing samples is good customer service and good for the business as it may bring the customer back for more. Most ice cream and fudge shops allow samples, especially in a tourist area with first time...

Do not go if you have any allergies. Staff are untrained on allergen safety and do not have access to an ingredient list with actual ingredients.

Update: When asked for an ingredient list, staff pulled out 2 binders but would not let me look at either to confirm what the list was or if allergens were listed. They stated multiple times that my allergen was not listed, so they were unable to confirm that it contained it, which makes zero sense. There was no manager or or comparable staff who could help the young staff trying to assist me. When I visited the website after the owners angry response I was again unable to access an ingredients list only a possible contamination list, which is not the same. If this ice cream place was as allergen friendly as they suggest the 3 staff who tried to help would not have been so confused. I hope in the future the managers provide the support and training their staff need rather then leaving them alone...
