Pro’s & Con’s.
Pro's: We vacationed here with 3 kids (12, 8, &6) for an Acadia hike trip. The location is outstanding- close to everything, enough “camping” feel with “glamping” luxuries like a toilet and hot water. Beds are comfy, but if you’re a picky pillow person, bring your own. The cabin was clean and the campground was immaculate. They have a shed with games and toys and extra towels and sheets etc. Playground was fun too.
CONS: 1. The host received a complaint from another camper that the kids (6 kids total) were playing too loudly on the swingset about 7-8pm while the parents were close by at the firepit. Quiet hours start at 10pm. The host proceeded to drive to the campground, pull up in a cloud of dust, roll her windows down and lecture us about not being able to "control" our kids. It was rude and aggressive. She accused us of not being considerate of others at the campground after she asked us to quiet them down, but that was untrue. We did speak to the kids, and they did quiet down for a little bit. Once their giggling and fun got louder again we decided to take them in at 9pm, still an hour before quiet hours began. These are fabric tents, so even normal conversation can be heard easily from tent to tent. It's a camp site, and the kids were on a playset. They were not being destructive or using foul language. I was so happy they were playing outside! The host should consider removing the playset, changing the quiet hours, not allowing children, or setting a better expectation with guests that they should expect to hear children at the glampground outside of quiet hours.
The next day I changed my son’s bed sheets and mattress pad on my own, not asking the host for a thing, and when we got home later in the day we found a note taped to a pee pad on our porch that said “please use this for the bed wetter”. I found it intrusive, rude and insensitive, and my son, who was 8 and hasn't had a bed accident in YEARS, was so embarrassed and ashamed. I'm not sure how she knew about his accident other than watching all the cameras she has on the property, or smelling the dirty bed sheets (yikes). I'm also not sure how she knew it was our cabin? Must have been the cameras.
Anyway, all of this to say, our family had an amazing time in Maine and at Acadia. The kids hiked 22 miles in three days and I puked a whole bunch on that whale watch boat. lol. The glampground was beautiful and convenient, but given the circumstances with the owner, I'm not sure I'd stay there again or recommend to others. I expect she will reply to this review with the same lies she posted on our airbnb review, but that's the way life goes. I'm just sharing our experience to help others. Good luck and have...
Read moreWoods of Eden was our last stop on our 10 day road trip to Maine, and it was a welcome and refreshing change from the boring hotels we stayed at up until that point. We didn't quite know what to expect when we pulled pulled up. We are not a traditional camping family, and it didn't matter. Everything you need is provided for,
First off, the canvas cabin units are big! There was a small kitchen, dining area, full bathroom with a nicer shower then we had at home, and multiple bedrooms. We were worried about bugs at night, but the canvas seals up nicely and we didn't see one bug inside. It was very clean.
The cabins themselves are arranged on a giant wooded lot, and are not on top of each other, so you did get a sense of privacy. The campground is set in a nicely wooded area that seems removed from any kind of civilization, even though we were only 5 miles from Bar Harbor.
There is a communal shed on the property where anyone can get supplies, towels, board games, and other toys that helped entertain our kids. There is also a communal fire pit where all the camp goers congregate after the sun sets, where everyone recounts their tales of hiking in Acadia that day.
There is a 10pm curfew time where you have to reduce your noise, because, you're in the woods, and canvas tents are not soundproof, so you can hear a lot of what's going on around you.
All in all, it was a great experience, especially after being cramped up in small hotel rooms, and it was nice to sit back and have a drink on our cabins front porch while the kids ran around and played. If we did this trip again, we would of just stayed here the whole...
Read moreOur family stayed here for 4 nights during our trip to Acadia National Park in early September and it was SO wonderful. It was really close to the park and Bar Harbor and had a restaurant nearby that was super close and had really good food. My husband is not much on camping but I love camping so this was a great compromise for us. Our boys (almost 4 and 18 months) LOVED the deer tent and playing outside in the woods/on the playground. The shower is probably one of the best showers I've ever been in and my husband said the queen bedroom bed was the best he's ever slept on. If you're worried about being cold don't be! There were plenty of blankets and heaters to keep us warm even when temps went down to the high 40's at night. I loved that it wasn't right off a main road and was tucked back in the woods-- very private and secluded feeling - you could hear faint airplanes or cars in the morning but nothing that was disturbing by any means. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay and great memories, if we ever head back to Maine this is where we will...
