We were so disappointed in our experience recently having stayed at this property several times in the past. Our past stays were very enjoyable but not this time. Upon arrival, we noticed that the grounds were kept up and beautiful and the desk clerk welcoming. It went down hill from there.
The hotel is in dire need of a deep cleaning. The carpet in the hallways and in our room were heavily stained and appeared to have not been vacuumed in some time. Only one of the two elevators worked and the floor of the elevator as well as the floor of the breakfast area in need of mopping. In our room, we found that the pump for the bath gel did not work nor was there any conditioner in the dispenser in the shower. Again, a reflection on the housekeeping.
Particularly bothersome was we were given a note upon checking in around 2:00 PM that the water was not safe to drink. When we returned to the lobby around 3:00, we were told that the water was now safe. I asked about the ice in the ice makers and was told not to use it since it was made with unsafe water. I asked if the ice makers would be purged and was told there was no one with maintenance on the property on Sunday but was assured the machines would be purged first thing Monday morning. Of course this did not happen and when we checked out late Monday morning, there was still no ice for consumption purposes. As further indication of the overall attitude, when asked about ice, the clerk told us we could go to a gas station and buy a bag of ice. I don't think hotel guests should have to do so. I don't blame the hotel for the water problem but do for their failure to take care of their guests.
On the subject of "guests", I noticed a car in the parking lot in which an individual was seated for an extended period of time when we checked in Sunday afternoon. On Monday morning, several young men came into the breakfast room and proceeded to pack their pockets with food and piled food onto plates. They walked straight out of the hotel to the car which was parked in the same place and sat down on the ground in the parking lot with their backpacks and ate their food while discarding their trash making a mess. One left walking with his backpack and the other got into the front seat of the same car where he remained for an extended time. As a retired drug prosecutor with over 35 years of experience, I was very suspicious of this activity and brought this activity to attention of the front desk clerk who walked outside and then returned and told me the driver was a "guest" at the hotel. I was able to watch this activity from our room window and well as from the parking lot and it is certainly of concern for my family's wellbeing if allowed to go on, "guest" or not. The clerk was honest with me in saying they have to "no trespass" people all the time.
I hate that this property is in the condition it is in since it is much closer to family than the other Hilton properties in South Lakeland but we will make the short drive in the future from those properties and not...

Read moreI was impressed. I ended up staying here on business and chose this location for my colleague and I because I used to live 4 miles away in Lakeland and have driven by this place a million times. Now, I’ll run through the key points really quick… • Location: Great location, close to everything needed-Publix, Walmart, etc. Also very close to restaurants (fast food and casual dine ins). It’s Bartow so it’s not a huge town but is situated in the middle of all needed and minutes from downtown. • Service: We were greeted a very friendly, 2nd shift front desk person. She had a great personality and a sense of humor but I must say, i have to give her the most credit where it’s due -she had us checked in in lightning speed time, faster than any hotel I’ve stayed out (and that’s been a lot) and I was very much thankful for it because it had been a long day. The night auditor (overnight) gentleman was also extremely friendly and kind. The woman that served continental breakfast, the same, and the housekeeper that I left my card with when I checked out. I didn’t encounter any employee there that wasn’t incredibly friendly, helpful and kind. This is a first because it always seems as though there’s always that 1 lol • The rooms: The rooms weren’t anything special, meaning to set them apart from any decent hotel, however, they were somewhat updated and most importantly, clean. My room overlooked the pool and they had me on the 4th floor 1 room from the end. Everything I needed was there-coffee maker and I’m not sure if this is standard in all rooms but I had 4 coffee pods, which excited me because I usually drink about that prior to making my way down, but 4 coffee pods, fridge, microwave, tv of course, iron, blow dryer and travel size toiletries. • Cleanliness: Everything appeared to be pretty clean, both inside and out. The grounds were well kept and everything was manicured. That said, in the evening, the hotel was well lit outside and all lights working. • Price: I’m thinking something was going on in the area which may have driven the rates up a bit. Granted the room was under $200 for 1 night but barely. Either way, that’s all I have to say about the rates. • Continental Breakfast: I’ll give them a better than most. Served was cheese omelets, I think it was sausage but I don’t really know since I don’t eat it, country potatoes (not sure what else to call them), oatmeal, pasties, fruit, yogurt, cereal, toast, and Belgium waffles. They also had milk, coffee, tea, juice and I think that’s it but all in all, pretty robust with their selection and it didn’t suck either lol
If you’re looking for a place to rest your head and you’re in Bartow, the Hampton Inn will take care of you and I’m pretty sure you’ll get the same experience as I mentioned above 😃
I think...
