Having stayed at a Sleep Inn on our numerous trips to Northern Louisiana, we thought that by booking this hotel, in the same group/brand, would be a similar wonderful experience. It was not, there is no way we would stay here again and I would certainly not recommend the hotel at all. The 4/5 star rating on trip advisor is certainly not warranted. Based on our previous Sleep Inn experiences, we had committed to booking two rooms for ten nights. Our stay was interrupted by bed bugs, in one of our rooms, which led to an exterminator being called from Ecolab. When he came to the room we offered to show him the pictures we had taken, of the bugs and the bites, to which he replied there was no need; I can see them all down the mattress. It subsequently transpired that several other rooms, on the same third floor, were also infected, had to exterminated and would be locked down for several weeks. The entrance to the hotel is acceptable and most of the staff were friendly. However, behind the scenes it would appear that general cleanliness and regular maintenance falls short. A regular room deep cleaning schedule should have allowed this to avoided. The air conditioning unit was faulty in one room and, in the other, there was an unpleasant odour when it started up. Seal around the shower door was faulty with water leaking onto the floor. Staining around the top of the toilet pan. Dirty, indicating leakage, around the sink outlet pipe. The television is very basic with no movie channels. There is no fitness room. There was one but it has been removed although is still mentioned on some searches. The lift certification was nearly none months out of date. The rooms are tired and need refreshing. We had emailed several weeks ahead of our visit - no response received - and called, to request rooms furthest away from the interstate. Given we were due to stay for ten days we thought this would not be an issue. We still ended up with rooms facing the interstate which were very noisy. On the morning of the bug incident we telephoned CHOICE Hotels Head Office to advise them. We were advised that they would investigate and call back. They did not. When we returned to the UK we had to call them. Whilst Head Office understood our concerns, they did not have any jurisdiction over the hotel to offer any recompense. Whilst the hotel has, the level has in no way compensated us for the incident, the inconvenience and upset caused, and the subsequent need for us to launder every single item of clothing and steam cleaning of what was new luggage for this trip. We are totally disappointed. Another recent review on Trip Advisor entitled "Not up to Choice Standards" is also right. We will certainly not be staying here again and would certainly not recommend...
Read moreThe 1st hotel room we stayed in had several problems including a leaking AC unit, the front door would not shut all the way without pulling it hard and the bathrooms do not lock at all. I told the front desk and maintenance was never sent to our room. We were offered a different room, but we had so much stuff that we really did not want to move our things over. We were there for a baseball tournament and did not have a lot of time for a move. There was also a lot of smoking on the 3rd floor which really made the entire floor smell badly. I have asthma which did make breathing harder in the halls when going to our room. Nothing was done about the smoking to stop it from happening. When talking to the front desk, everyone was very pleasant and nice. My son have a bit of a breakdown and a staff member helped us a lot, but was disciplined by the manager of the hotel, which upsets me a lot. She stayed outside and helped us as he was really upset. She should not have ever gotten in trouble by her supervisor.
We ended up leaving a day early because of my son's breakdown and the manager did refund us the money for that day and said that he would give us 10,000 points toward another stay at a choice hotel. I feel that the staff is amazing, but under appreciated by the manager and they are all unhappy with working at this hotel. I am concerned that they never addressed the leaking AC unit because that will cause black mold in the room, which can make people sick if they stay around the mold for any certain amount of time. I would never stay at this hotel for this reason.
The rooms were mostly clean, but there were some dirty areas in both hotel rooms and the rooms were very outdated. The pool area was very nice.
The breakfast was ok, but it was the exact same food every day and the food was never replenished when everything was gone. I consistently had to go into the cabinets and get silverware, plates, napkins and other stuff that should have been out because someone used the last one and nobody came in to keep the area stocked during breakfast.
The only reason I would ever stay in this hotel again would be because of the wonderful staff that is working there. I would suggest finding a new manager that would care about the hotel and fix important things like the leaky AC unit and the wet carpets increase the chance of mold growing in the floors. The smell of cigarettes was absolutely horrible and made us sick several times during our...
Read moreDisclaimer: I submitted this letter to Choice Hotels on Nov, 1 and have yet to get a response. Perhaps a rep will see it here.
I am submitting this letter as I am very concerned about my recent stay at a Choice Hotel. I am in Louisiana for a short term work project. My wife and I checked into the Sleep Inn Baton Rouge on Sunday, October 30 and was scheduled to check out on Friday, Nov 4, with plans to check back in on Sunday the 6th. However, a series of unfortunate experiences led to our checking out on Monday, the 31st. Considering the price per night, we were sorely disappointed with the quality of our room: damaged floor in the shower, dirty carpet and work chair, wifi that wouldn’t work. We also had the unfortunate experience of seeing a man walk out of his hotel room and into the hallway completely naked while attempting to put on his t-shirt. However, the worse is that on Monday morning, my wife and I both woke up with multiple insect bites. I have several on my left arm and hand and one on my leg; my wife has one on hand, wrist and arm and several on her back. (I took pictures) I cannot tell you how miserable it is to have to endure this painful itchiness! Because of work, we couldn't check out until about 3:30pm and we were charged for both nights. I think it is imperative that the rooms in that hotel be fumigated!!! I have been a Choice Rewards member since 2012 and have stayed in your hotels several times for work purposes. While some of our stays haven’t always been the best, we’ve tried to give Choice Hotels a chance when visiting different states. I was quite pleased to reach Diamond status with our recent trip to Port Arthur, TX, however, this last experience has sorely disappointed us and I doubt we will do business with...
