The Trails Motel in Lone Pine, California is a nice little motel for a quick stopover in this small rural California town. Another 1950s or 60s era mom and pop motel, it more than did the job for us for a night in August 2023 after visiting Death Valley National Park on our summer vacation through southern Nevada and California. Lone Pine is a very small town with a population of approximately 2000 and there are only a few motels to choose from. It came down to The Trails Motel on the south end of town and the Mount Whitney Motel on the north end. My wife and I chose The Trails. Overall, a nice stop for us. Classic 1950s/60s architecture always fits my bill. Nice light up Trails Motel sign is good for a photo or two after dark. There is a quiet little relaxing pool out front that served as a nice place to cool off and relax after a long day of driving through the desert. Nice comfortable rooms to boot. Everything was in good working order: air conditioning, bathrooms, cleanliness, comfortable beds, etc. The gentleman who checked us in at the front office was polite and helpful. My only complaint was that I thought it to be a bit overpriced but so were the other choices in Lone Pine. We paid about $150 for one night (including tax). Everything in town, including food and gas, was expensive but I realize this is California, Lone Pine is a small town with limited choices, and it serves as a gateway to and from nearby Death Valley National Park. Despite this, we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Kudos to The...

This is an interesting place that was built sometime in the thirties or forties as a true motor hotel. You park, if you have a small car, right in front of your door. Trucks will need to park outside or along the edge of the pool. This room review is about #14 which has been updated with modern fixtures, tile bath floor, large entry and bath door and flat entry shower as a handicap room. Problem is there is no way in the world for a wheelchair to ever get into the bathroom from the front door because the space between the foot of the bed and the refrigerator and desk type furniture is barely enough to walk through. No way for a wheelchair will make it. The room is clean though. The bed is rock hard and the pillows were worn out ten or more years ago; flat and hard as bricks, no loft at all. The shampoo comes in little packets that require a machete to open and the soap is from a child's playhouse and also difficult o open. Once you have washed your face you need to open another to continue with your torso. And adults will need two towels to get dry, they are quite small. The swimming pool was closed, I guess for the season, and had debris and a large black plastic bag floating in it. nope, not me even if it was open. But the room was clean and the lady who checked us in was very nice. I will try another place next time...

BED BUGS. After checking in, we went to our room and started unpacking our things, as we were planning to stay for 2 nights. My boyfriend discovered a bed bug crawling up his arm. Upon closer inspection, three other similar bugs were spotted in the sheets. We immediately re-packed everything, went to the front desk, and advised the woman working the front desk that we had seen bed bugs in the bed. Instead of: 1. apologizing; 2. offering a different room; or 3. offering a refund, she instead insisted that it was "not possible" that they had bed bugs, as the room had "just been renovated." In fact, she was quite rude about it. We had to find another hotel (which charged us twice as much because of the late notice). Trails Motel ultimately (begrudgingly) refunded me for one night, but not both, which is astonishing, since (aside from the obvious bed bug issue) we didn't even stay one night and we left within 30 minutes of checking in. We have had to spend additional money steam cleaning (and spraying) all of our luggage and contents - yes, there were some "hitchhikers" in there. I usually don't like to write negative reviews, but our experience with the hotel staff was so negative that I felt I'd be remiss in not...

Even though the motel was renovated and had fresh paint, carpet, and other amenities, I was unsatisfied with my stay. AC is loud, and it is impossible to sleep at night if you are a light sleeper. If the AC is off, there is no air circulation at all. Pillows were extremely flat and uncomfortable. The hot water in the shower lasted 15 minutes. How should someone wash themselves in 15 minutes after a big hike? What if I need to take a bath? Not enough soap and shampoo. There is not enough parking. Some guests had 2 cars for one unit, and they took 2 spots. So, if you come late, you will be forced to park on the street. It's unfair.

Super easy going place with simple and clean rooms. The sheets were honestly the softest we’ve ever found in a hotel. He was comfortable. We arrived at 2am and rang 3 times at the front; manager of owner came out looking so sleepy but was still very friendly! Rooms are inexpensive and check in took only a minute. Next time we are in lone pine we will stop by again.
