Until yesterday it would have been 5 stars. i've been stopping in here for the better part of 25 years as well as my friends and family, probably spending couple $1000 over the years at this point, sometimes dining in, usually Togo so nobody has to smell a stinky backpacker while trying to enjoy a meal. Have never been disappointed until july 6. And yes they were busy but this was pretty ridiculous,Placed a burger and fries order Togo about 20 min in I see a togo box get put up on the counter, food runners ignore it and work on in house stuff, they guy that took my order avoids coming back over to the front, another 15 min. Go by I wave down an emplyee and ask what's up with my food, he checks. 5 min later he's asking another employee if he can start cashing out people's take out orders cause they are backing up, she's to busy having a meltdown cause she has to make ice cream shakes for customers to do anything else and that no he can't. I then have to inform them that I had already paid when the guy took my order at the very beginning, 45 min later I get a cold burger and fries that's been sitting in their window for 30 min. There really is no excuse for that lack of service and disregard by the employees especially the 1 that took my order, knew i paid and had no issue pocketing the cash tip i gave him, then avoided doing anything with my meal or following up with me, regardless of how busy the restaurant was I was still a paying customer like the people in the booths and they should have anticipated and been prepared for it to be busy since 4th of july is 1 of their busiest weekends. That was such a distasteful experience and time and money are too valuable to gamble on another experience like that in the future when options in town...

I didn’t get to try the food bc I sat there for over 10 minutes with the menu and a glass of water then decided to leave since everyone who came in after me was getting attentive service.

Thought I would give this place a try. I walked into the side door, looked like a server was outside for a break on her phone. As I meandered around being my first time there, I found the front counter and looked through a menu. The girl saw me and said nothing. It wasn’t until a couple of minutes later when people arrived after me that this young guy acknowledged me and let me choose my seat. I asked for a glass of water which he promptly came back with.

I checked out the menu already knowing what I wanted to order within a few minutes, observing how the female server suddenly seemed to be seating every party that arrived after me, even seating and taking the order of a single white woman. The female server never said anything to me, maybe at most looking at my table as she walked by multiple times. The guy was nowhere to be found.

The atmosphere already had a weird feeling to it when I walked in. Feeling as if I’m being ignored and undervalued, I got up and left to a restaurant down the street where I knew I should have gone to in the first place since I’ve been there before and always had a good experience.

Would I give this place another shot?

No. But good luck to everyone else...

Mount Whitney restaurant serves American food. It advertises as comfort food and it delivers what it advertises. My son and I opted for chicken fried steak my husband got the Burger and fries. My husband said his burger was average and said it rated about a 3. He concluded that it was not the best Burger in town, as advertised. My son and I thought the chicken fried steak was about a 4. The potatoes were perfect, and topped with decent gravy. The beef, however, was a bit overcooked, and required the exercise of the knife. The deep fried corn was a unique preparation we enjoyed. When we were finished we were full. No desserts were needed. The menu had many American dishes from which to select. There were appetizers, salads, desserts, main dishes, etc. The décor is all about the Alabama hills and the movies filmed in and around the area. There's a piano and old stove, and many memorabilia from times past, and photos of stars. Parking is on the street and also in a parking lot right next to the restaurant. I never noticed any handicap parking or handicapped facilities, but handicapped persons probably could be accommodated at this restaurant in any event. All the staff I met at the restaurant were professional, efficient,...

The absolute slam dunk of Mt Whitney Restaurant is the location to the Dow hotel right across the street. What to expect: This is a casual neighborhood/passerby restaurant on the main strip through town. It is not fast food. I did receive my order in 12 minutes. The atmosphere is relaxed with black and white or sepia photos of old western movie stars… although I did see a Clint Eastwood photo… I am not that old. 😆. It appears to be a bit of a local spot too. This diner is located close to hiking and most notably Death Valley. About the Food: I expected something a little higher end to be completely transparent. The venison burger I received was a bit strange in texture, possibly freezer burned a little. I did not finish my onion rings, everything just seemed fast food or frozen type food. I’d love to see a place like this make a dish or two for a signature taste and feel. Unfortunately this was not what “The Typical Tourist” should expect. Absolutely loved the decor, there’s nothing better than paying homage to historic figures in the way Mt Whitney Restaurant does. It is convenient, needs work on food, at least the burger. You will get great personable service when you sit down, in that area, home run.

Well, as I sit here weighing how to review Mt. Whitney Restaurant, I’m trying to pull on anything and everything to give it 5-stars but I can’t find the “thing” to push it from good to great. Overall, I had a good experience, nothing really wrong, but also nothing that stands out. Our group tried a variety of the burgers. I had the Bacon Cheeseburger with fries. We all agreed the burgers were pretty tasty. But that’s kinda where it ends. Not much else to say. Aside from that, I tried the Apple Pie and ice cream for dessert and that was delicious! I really enjoyed this. Service was slow on a few items we asked for. I try not to hold this against any of the places I visit as I know everywhere is understaffed these days and I appreciate the small businesses trying to keep on fighting. There is a limit though and I felt we pushed this limit a few times. In general, if you choose to visit, I believe you’ll enjoy your meal and experience here! I hope you continue to support small/local businesses like I do. I’ll be sure to visit again when I’m in the area and give some other burgers a try.
