We booked this hotel almost 2 weeks in advance for a summer spiritual retreat in Boone for the 2nd week of July.. Unfortunately, my first two days were ruined for lack of sleep because of the smoking smell in the hotel room.
Online hotel room pictures don't justify the quality and cleanliness of the hotel rooms. Initially, I was impressed by looking at the pictures online for cleanliness and reserved the rooms for 5 nights. However, it was very disappointing. The worst thing is on the first night, someone on the 2nd floor was smoking all night in one of the adjacent rooms and the smell percolated into my room and remained for the rest of the night and the next day as well. The smell is so strong that it gave me a headache and couldn't sleep. I was staying with my family(accompanied by a toddler). Both, my daughter and I couldn't sleep all night because of the smoking smell.
The front desk seems to be a bit indifferent to the customers who file a complaint or report an issue with the facility. No follow-up what so ever for the complaints registered with the front desk which is shocking and the worst part is that they didn't even try to accommodate us in a different room/different floor. In fact, I had to follow-up for the next two days for the recurring smell in the room. I hope the hotel management realizes that smoking/CO is a serious issue in closed spaces/rooms for non-smokers. Though the hotel claims all of its rooms are non-smoking, they don't seem to bothered if someone smokes in the rooms. I regret staying and will not stay at this hotel in the future. I pretty much wasted my hundreds of $$ at this sub-standard hotel. I hope someone in the Fairfield Inn management reads my post, acts on customer complaints and addresses the issues.

Read moreWe tried to check in at 4:30 pm (although I had already checked in using the app at 8 am). We were told our room was not ready (there were a number of people in the lobby also waiting to check in). The young man at the desk (who was very nice and polite and was clearly doing his best) took my name and number and told me they would call when our room was ready. They called a few minutes later.
There was no acknowledgement of my Titanium status (I patronize Marriott because of the perks that comes with the status), and we should have been able to check in if not early at least at the 4 pm check in time. When I asked if all the others who were waiting to check in were Titanium and I was told "yes, some of them are". I also asked why, since I had already checked-in early on the app why my room was not ready and i was told the (the property) was not looking at the check-ins on the app. When I asked why there were no rooms available after the 4 pm check-in time I was told that some people who had arrived before check-in had already checked in.
So.....what is the point of 1) having Marriott status at this property; 2) checking in using the app early? Apparently at this property the answer is 'there is no point'.
The fitness room was closed due to 'renovations' - however their website indicates it is open so that was another unpleasant surprise.
If I could rate 2 1/2 stars I would but since I can't I have rated three stars because if you are not staying at this property because you have status and want the perks you probably ok staying here (unless you want to work out - in that case,...
Read moreSecond time staying here. The first time, we were comped for our entire stay due to the horrible experience. Since then, the property was remodeled and a new GM so we figured it would be better. The remodel was sub par for a Marriott property, there was no shampoo (yet we got 20 bottles of conditioner), my wife cleaned the bathroom when we moved in because someone put minimal effort into getting it ready for the next guest, the fitness room was gone and the breakfast was terrible every day. The breakfast staff acted like we should be grateful that they even made minimal food and we should feel sorry for them that every day, they "just ran out of xyz". The only person at this property that should be praised is Sarah in housekeeping. She was wonderful making up for all the items that were not available by collecting our trash and providing clean towels. And just being a genuinely sweet person. Give her a raise! Everyone else just seemed like they were miserable working there. On top it of all this, about an hour after eating that terrible breakfast on our last day and driving home, I get this terrible stomach ache that worsened to what I would attribute to food poisoning for the next 3 days. Woke up feeling fine, ate breakfast, packed up the car, got on the road then bam, all those wonderful things that food poising brings. Got tested 3x for covid afterwards expecting that is what I caught but nope, all negative. Doc said either food poisoning or Noro virus. Never...
