My husband and I are IHG Rewards members and frequently stay in Holiday Inns while traveling. We were going to the Boone area for an overnight trip. I booked a room for us for a one night stay at the Holiday Inn Boone - University Area. I wish I had read the reviews first.
It was not easy to get into the parking lot as this hotel is on a very busy highway. I had to go down the street and make a left turn at a light to get turned in the correct direction. The woman who checked us in - Samantha - was very nice and told us that if we needed anything to just let her know as she would be at the desk until 11 p.m.
Since this was a Holiday Inn and not an express, it has an onsite restaurant for breakfast and dinner but these meals are not free for guests. There is also a bar. We had had a late lunch so we went up to our room and got settled in. The room was clean and quiet. Around 6 p.m., we went down to the restaurant to see about dinner. The bar was open but not the restaurant. No explanation as to why. The barkeeper did tell us that it would be open for breakfast in the morning.
We then proceeded to drive around Boone trying to find a restaurant that we could park close to and get some supper. After about an hour, we finally found a delightful restaurant out on the highway and had a very nice meal. We then drove back to the hotel and went back to our room. We got a good night's sleep.
We had a 10 o'clock appointment and since we were not sure how far away it was and what driving conditions in the mountains would be like, we wanted an early start. We went down to the restaurant and spoke with the young man at the counter. I told him our last name and our room number. He acted like he wasn't sure what he was supposed to do with that information. Samantha was working the desk again and said that she would be right over to help us. She got our name and room number and took our order.
The meal was not very good. I asked for orange juice. I got two very small juice boxes of orange tangerine super sweet liquid. My husband got a small packaged muffin. I finally got some scrambled eggs, greasy bacon and 3 small waffle triangles that were raw in the middle. I nibbled a piece of the bacon and a little of the eggs. The waffle was inedible. Thankfully, the coffee was okay.
We usually stay at Holiday Inn Expresses which have a continental breakfast with hot food (potatoes, bacon, sausage, eggs), cold and hot cereal, muffins, bagels, toast and make your own waffles or pancakes. Plus some fresh fruit, yogurt, milk, several kinds of juice and coffee.
The ice machine on the 4th floor where we were staying was out of order. The swimming pool was closed for repairs and apparently had been since April (nearly 3 months). When we checked in, we were told that there would be a $100 hold on my credit card for "incidentals" that would be released in about 10 days. I hope that we get our $100 back.
Aside from poor Samantha, there really was no one working who seemed to know what they were supposed to be doing nor cared. She was only one person and could not do all that needed to be done.
Had I known that there was a Holiday Inn Express just a couple of miles away, I would have booked my stay there. When I tried to do this review on the IHG (Holiday Inn corporate) site, there was no record of my stay. However under my account, it did show this as my upcoming/most...
Read moreWhere to start.. my family and I were so excited for our trip to tweetsie railroad, after a funfilled but exhausting day it was time to leave and check in to the hotel.. when I arrive to the hotel, I go in to check in, first impressions two men standing at the desk the one gentlemen smiled and greeted me and the other looked at me and turned, I didn’t realize that the hotel needed to take a 100$ hold on my card so I gave them another card and paid for the room on a different card. The nice gentleman teed rubbing my card and the card reader froze and this happened two or three times, he asked the other man for help (at this point I realized he was the manager) and the guy got super hateful with him showed him how to clear it and then after about 40 mins my card finally went through, he never apologized for the inconvenience but r anything.. I get it life happens but you don’t have to be rude. So I get my room, we get our stuff in and change immediately to our bathing suits, we go down to the pool, we walked in a got greeted with a green hot tub, the most disgusting h to I g ever and when we first arrived there were no signs saying it was out of order, I told my kids to stay away from it cause it looked so gross!!! After about 3 hrs of swimming the manager comes in and starts taping signs up stating the hot tub is temporary down. But the way it looked it should have been closed long before that! I go back to my hotel room and discover the sheets that’s eye on my bed had pee stains on them.. so nasty right I requested new sheets and never got any!!! I let it slide it was a long day, I found some towels I laid down.. and the next morning the kids wanted to swim, so we went down and now the pool was closed until further notice! Are you kidding me?! So we went back up gather our things and proceeded to get checked out.. I was told I owed more money to check out?! Never ever have had this happen to me! The amount was $4.30 well the problem was my debit card was tapped out at this point, no big deal even though I was frustrated about having to pay to leave and still don’t know why?! I just wanted to go so I said well I have cash… the man hatefully said we don’t accept cash, so at this point I’m upset cause my kids are standing right here the man is legit being so hateful for no reason… finally he said he would so cash I paid and left. I came back In because he told me the hold on my card would be be let go, well it wasn’t and then he changed his story and said I wouldn’t get it back till he did the audit at midnight. And the proceeded to tell me to leave.. it was the most...
Read moreI can see that another reviewer had a similar issue. In my case, cancelled my reservation three days prior but was charged. After two months of trying to get an answer, finally find out another person was allowed to fraudulently sign into my cancelled reservations ( because I 100% wasn’t there) while charging my original reservation. When I first saw the pending charge, I called about the cancelled reservation. At this time it was confirmed I didn’t stay at the hotel and was told that it was a temporary charge from the original reservation and would most likely come off my card. Then the charge went through and I called back on Aug 19th asking about the charge. The person on the customer service line confirmed again that I didn’t stay at the hotel but didn’t have authorization to reverse a charge so the information had to be given to the manager and the manager would call me back. Called two more times but this time was told the system had me as checked into this previous reservation and I would have to talk to the manager but he was on vacation and their assistant manager was not in. They would give the message and I should get a call back. Never received a call back, so I emailed the hotel. Never received a response from the email. No response in a month. I got tired of waiting on a response and disputed with my card company and was told the hotel provided paperwork that had me signed in and out of the room. Unsure how since I never went to this confirmed emailed cancelled reservation. Called the hotel again and asked them to send me the paperwork that was “signed” since I know for a fact that I never stepped foot in the hotel and now two months later there’s paperwork? If this is the case, I want this paperwork provided to me to file charges for fraud for someone signing in as me to a cancelled reservation that I never used. I was told that they have it on file and should only take an hour to receive… Nothing was sent to me. Since I have been in the military, I have mostly stayed at Holiday Inns and never over 24 years had an issue until dealing with Holiday Inn Boone University. The lack of response to phone calls and email is a direct representation on how this hotel management disregards customers. In addition, the lack of follow through on request to assist in trying to find who is fraudulently forging my name on a cancelled reservation proves to me that management has no concern for customer’s welfare either. If you need a room, I highly recommend finding another reputable hotel without reviews of being charged for other people signing into a cancelled...
