Holmes Convocation Center — Attraction in Boone

Great venue location, typically used for sporting events but also has been used for concerts, guest speakers, career/internship fairs, etc. COVID-19 vaccinations currently being administered there by Appalachian State University. Staff there is friendly and helpful, composed of students, staff, and faculty that were typically but not necessarily focused in public health, nursing, or medicine. The vaccinations are by appointment only and there was a staged or tiered eligibility. However, currently all staff, faculty, and students are eligible for the vaccine through the university. There is a single designated entrance and multiple exists. Expect to wait 15 minutes after the shot in a moniterred waiting area to ensure safety by watching for side effects The university uses the Johnson & Johnson one shot vaccine. Unless the person is under 18 but at least 16, in that case the university uses the only vaccine approved for people between 16&17 which is the Pfizer. Pfizer vaccine is a two dose vaccine. Parking is too far from the building, especially in cold weather. The restrictions on purses for women is ridiculous, as I had to walk my wife's purse back to the parking garage when they deemed it to be too large, when they could very well have just asked her to open it and show the contents. Not allowing people to bring in water, or sell it during our daughter's graduation, was absolutely ridiculous!
