My first visit to Ultra Beauty in Boone was very disappointing. First, I’m grateful to Ultra Beauty for carrying a specific perfume that I needed to find for my mom for Christmas. But I had an underwhelming experience, mostly from a person who appeared to be a supervisor. After entering the store I quickly found the perfume I was looking for, however the sample bottle was empty. I took it to the front to make them aware. First, the young lady at the counter looked at me like I was speaking another language. Once she calmed down she called over the supervisor who then took the top off the empty bottle and told me to smell that as if I could get a good sample from the bottle top. That should’ve been my first clue. After more searching I found a gift set that I wanted but the box was in bad shape. I ask the same young lady at the counter if they had a different box, I’m purchasing this for my mom and I wanted the set to look new and clean, she asked the supervisor and the supervisor immediately said no without looking. I thought that was kind of strange. I told a different young lady at the counter that I wasn’t having a great experience and she apologized to me and asked if there was anything she could do, I told her no its fine. Before purchasing the gift set I opened the box to check the items and noticed one of the bottles was empty. The bottle was broken and perfume had leaked out of the bottle which is why the gift box was discolored. She went to show the supervisor and immediately came back to the counter with a new gift set, the same gift set the they were out of a minute ago. I confronted the young lady about this but she swore to me that they just found it in a matter of seconds. I’ve been treated this way a few times in my life, and it is a very horrible feeling. I’m not sure what in particular it was today that spurred this kind of treatment; my clothes, me being a male, or my skin color, but no one wants to be treated like a second class human.    Read moreI love this Ulta and usually have normal experiences there until today. I went in looking for one makeup brush. I found myself in the elf aisle where at least 6 different brushes had sale stickers underneath them and I was careful to make sure I picked the right brush with the discount. Upon checking out, the brush rang up for full price. Before even realizing the price issue the older white-haired woman (who I believe is a manager but didn’t catch her name) ringing me up offered me a set of brushes that I wasn’t interest in and I declined. When I mentioned the lack of discount and she immediately told me I was wrong. After I pushed a little she went with another employee to check the elf section. They were gone for longer than I expected and then came back to tell me that only one brush was on sale and it wasn’t the one I chose. She did however bring the brush set I had already told her I didn’t want with her to offer it again (it was double the original price of the one brush) and I declined once more. After finishing checking out I went back to see if I really had misread the sale sticker and all of them were gone. Even if it wasn’t purposeful, it read as “we didn’t realize those were still up and don’t want to give you the discount.” I’ve never had this happen as usually stores honor past deals because the signs were still up and that isn’t the costumers fault. This employee very much made it feel like it was my fault which I did not appreciate, on top of her pushing a product that I said I didn’t want multiple times. I have been in Ulta Beauty in Boone before but for a specific product alone. Never really shopped around much. Recently the product I used had been discontinued and I’ve been desperate for something comparable if not better. I didn’t ask for help, I just started looking around and Brooklyn came up to me and offered help. She didn’t know what product I could use right away but immediately used her little radio set up and got some great feedback from others in the store. She was able to find something for me after just a few minutes.
But what struck me was that long after we’d moved on from the product I’d been referred to, Brooklyn came back with something else she thought I’d like better.
